  • Teach introductory and advanced computer science courses for the Professional Development Center, and the Small Business Training Program Designed for Mature Adults. The courses are geared to introduce adults to technology and its uses in academic, personal and professional settings. Materials: IBM PC, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and the Internet.
  • Taught an introductory computer science course, DP 103, typically to first or second semester majors.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

 

Medgar Evers College/CUNY, Brooklyn, New York, 8/2007 – Present

Director of Associate of Arts in Teacher Education Programs/Assessment Coordinator  - School of Liberal Arts and Education

Achievements: Mentored approximately three hundred Associate of Arts students; coordinated and interviewed students for candidacy to the Bachelor of Arts in Teacher Education Programs—increasing enrollment over 100% for the 2007-2008 academic year. Initiated a National Volunteer’s Week event for 2009 for the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

 

 

Responsibilities:

§         Oversee and monitor Associate of Arts (AA) candidate development of program portfolios documenting their growth and experiences throughout their experience to prepare them for entry to one of the BA in Teacher Education programs.

§         Evaluate transfer and non-transfer student transcripts.

§         Prepare AA candidates for BA entrance interviews.

§         Oversee and monitor AA student mentoring regarding academic and curricular issues, program plan of study, course selection, degree audit, final essay/projects, etc.

§         Oversee and monitor academic, personal and career counseling and referrals to specialized counseling/academic support resources.

§         Provide assessment, data management and support for the $800,000 PANCOSE (Preparing a New Cadre of Special Educators) Scholarship grant.

§         Collaborate with the Department Chair in the evaluation of equivalencies of transfer credits for incoming students.

§         Collaborate on various projects with the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

§         Selected as a “Wiley Innovator” by President Edison O. Jackson to help facilitate development and change in the Medgar Evers College community.

§         Collaborate with the Education Department personnel (faculty, staff, and student workers) on the development, enhancement, and maintenance of assessment data and candidate records.

§         Submit annual and biannual assessment reports analyzing program integrity and effectiveness, and candidate (student) progress in the Education Department.

§         Collect and analyze NYSTCE scores to determine the best methods to maintain and improve candidates’ probability of passing the exam and to develop learning experiences based on the data to help candidates reach their goals.

§         Design and implement databases as needed for managing all Education Department assessment data and generate reports based on acquired data.

Achievements:
Created a database tracking the progress of baccalaureate and pre-baccalaureate candidates majoring in Education who take the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). Compiled program and student data/feedback to assess students and faculty in the Teacher Education Program. The Education Department received national accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in October 2006, due in part to my organization of the assessment data.

§         Collaborate with the Education Department personnel (faculty, staff, and student workers) on the development, enhancement, and maintenance of assessment data and candidate records.

Achievements:
Improved technical skills for students and faculty through small hands-on computer workshops. Acquired $1,300.00 worth of new computer hardware for the Continuing Education Computer Lab.

 

Responsibilities:

§         Coordinated the undergraduate tutoring program for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS).

§         Hired and trained graduate students and faculty for the tutoring program.

§         Supervised on average ten tutors (e.g., assigned responsibilities, prepared time sheets, and monitored hours).

§         Supervised Administrative Aide (e.g., reception, student information, employee files, student and faculty forms, faculty payments and faculty book orders).

§         Responsible for student use and faculty appointments in the SCPS computer lab. Analyzed the lab efficiency and recommended software and hardware upgrades.

§         Supervised lab aides, students and faculty use in the Computer Lab and Resource Center.

§         Designed lesson plans and conducted workshops for students and faculty for MS Windows and MS Office applications.

§         Developed and implemented programs for adult students independently and in conjunction with other university offices.

§         Advised adults beginning or returning to higher education in their academic career.
