Background

-------------------------------------------------

Some of the big questions I get asked related to my lifestyle concern my reasons.

In 1998 I was badly injured in an automobile accident.  The vehicle I was driving was hit head-on by a teenage driver.  The accident happened in Logan, UT.  I spent the next several years trying to recover physically.  I would never recover emotionally.

I struggled on for a few years living from hand to mouth and waiting on government assistance to help me maintain myself.  That assistance has still not come despite documentation stating that I would never be able to hold a job or function normally in society.

Every step I took led me one step closer to homelessness.  Eventually I did end up homeless and living in my van in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The same year that happened, I lost my drivers license for non-payment of child-support.

So, now I was homeless, no income, no driver license, and no place to live.

My only options were to take up residence at a homeless shelter or to keep moving.  I felt my chances were better to keep moving.   Either way I had lost everything that was important to me.

I used to hitchhike around a lot when I was younger but had not done it at all since before 1990.  It was time to hit the road again and see what life would bring me, anything had to be better than being stuck in some shelter waiting for the government to help.

Who am I?  Union Jack, professional hitchhiker.

So if you see me out there pick me up.  I’m going your way.
