Competition Rules

(1) Each category has been assigned a point value; these values will not change unless decided by the members in the Room. See Chart above

(2) Questions with a value of 50 points will be given 20 seconds to answer, which will commence once the Quiz Master has posed the question.

(3) Questions with a value greater than 50 points will be given 60 seconds to answer, which will commence once the Quiz Master has posed the question.

(4) Teams will be permitted to choose only twice from the same Category.

(5) The penalty for giving an incorrect answer (meaning not the answer the panel is looking for) shall be 50 percent of the value of the question.

(6) Any question that is answered incorrectly shall be sent back to the bank to be tendered in another competition at another date.

(7) A Team or Team member who engages in arguing, querying, negotiating or protesting any matter with the Judges or any Other Official of the Competition will forfeit their Teams points for that particular Round. Should this occur a second time the Team will be disqualified from the Competition.

(8) All questions MUST be answered on the microphone and not typed in the room, unless given prior permission by the Quiz Master, a judge or an assignee or any officiating member. If the answer is typed in the room prior to answering on the microphone, that question will be disqualified and the respondent and team loose their turn to answer. However, if the answer was typed by a non-member of the team, the question shall be disqualified and the team given the opportunity to select a new question.

(9) Once an answer has been given on the microphone, the Team Member shall relinquish the microphone to the Quiz Master. Should a Team Member violate this rule, they shall forfeit their opportunity to answer a question in the next round. Should this happen a second time the Judges has the right to disqualify that team?

(10) No team member shall return to the microphone after they have answered a question or that team will be passed over during the next round. If any member of that team breaks violates this microphone rule on the second round the panel has the right to disqualify that team from the competition.

(11) If a team selects a question that was previously selected, that team shall be given the right to select another question but that question must be from the same category unless that category is exhausted. In that event, the team may select another category and question of their choice.

(12) Each team MUST elect a member who will answer all questions on behalf of that team. The answer that member gives to all questions shall be taken as final. The team leader may give the right to another team member to answer questions on the team’s behalf.

(13) The individual team member elected to answer on the microphone shall be considered as the team’s representative and any answers from he/she shall be considered final answers.

(14) If any team member is late in joining his/her team after two rounds, that member will be ineligible, (barred from participating) unless the Quiz Master or a judge or an assignee of the officiating panel grants permission.

(15) We agree to place any or all observer/non-participants who disrupt the flow of the competition on ignore. Any team that does not cooperate shall lose 10 points or the right to answer that round’s question.

(16) The committee reserves the right to change the rules in order to accommodate any future development. When this is done participants shall be notified.

Please remember this is a friendly competition, we should all exercise self-discipline and respect for one another. Please note, this competition is not an indictment on anyone’s capability, character, person, intellect or in any way, shape or form meant to inflict pain or suffering on anyone. It is purely for fun and must be taken in that light.

Good Luck to all the Teams
