INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Tornadoes, cancellations, layovers: Central! You missed it! At international, we experienced a lot of...let's just say technical difficulties. But with all the opportunities, we learned a great deal and changed the future. As delegates we chose Kyle Lecroy as the 2003-2004 Key Club Inbternatinal Presidentent, and Sudeep Pal as his vice. Contgratulations to them and the new trustees!

I'll be continuing to tell you stories about the tornadoes and other exciting infromation, but for now; enjoy your summer, and see you soon

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT

Seniors and You: Senior Citizens and Improving the Quality of their Golden Years
By Lt. Governor Stephanie Hill- Governor's Project Committee

Are you remembering to spend time with Senior Citizens???? You should be! Remember the Governor’s Project CAN be continued throughout the summer! The Senior Citizens love having us around, so don’t leave them alone all summer. If you AREN’T spending time with them, you should start something up! Go and visit them at nursing homes, plan a funny skit to perform for them, or even send them a thinking of you card. Nobody appreciates a caring friend more then them. So get out there and plan activities you can do with Senior Citizens, and I guarantee that both of you will get something out of it!!

PR

As the summer approaches us, it becomes harder to publicize events and meetings within your club since you don't see everyone over the summer. Because of this, the Public Relations Committee is encouraging everyone to call 1-800-KIWANIS or go to www.keyclub.org and order a free Public Relations Kit. It offers a lot of fun ideas for you all to use and will help improve Public Relations within your club! In addition to the International Public Relations (PR) Kit, there will be a PR Kit exclusively for the NY District coming out after International Convention. (bug your lieutenant governor for it).

Also, remember to add anything you do to your monthly report forms that is public relations. This ranges from e-mail updates to PA announcements, or even minutes and agendas from club meetings! Don't be afraid to contact your club members over the summer!

I hope to meet some of you who are attending International Convention, and if I don't meet you then, don't be afraid to contact me, or any of the other PR Committee members with questions you have!

Yours in Caring and Service,
Public Relations Committee Chair
Lieutenant Governor Nicolle Kaufmann

New Club Building and Reactivation Committee

The New Club Building and Reactivation Committee is the group assigned to building new Key Clubs and maintaining those that have fallen in disrepair. This year’s committee goal is 15 new clubs around the New York District.

So far the committee is well on its way to completing its goal by already chartering 4 new clubs. The four new clubs are: Amsterdam, Glen Cove, Brooklyn Tech., and Webb. These are great examples of how Key Club is expanding more and more in every corner of the Mighty New York District.

In order to keep on growing, the committee needs your help. If you could give your division’s Lt. Governor a short list of any schools in your area that do not already have a Key Club as far as you know, you would be helping out the committee greatly.

The other part of the committee’s work is reactivation. This is essential to our Mighty New York District, because if we do not maintain our current clubs there is no point in building new ones. Reactivation is done by contacting and interacting with clubs that have lost charters, become suspended, or have become severely inactive.

Good luck with all your future service projects and thank you for support of the New Club Building and Reactivation Committee!

Yours in Caring and Service,

Chair Lt. Governor Dave Johnson

YOF-Youth Opportunities Fund

So you are asking yourself what exactly is YOF? Well, the YOF provides money for Key Clubs and members to develop volunteer community-service projects. Project applications are submitted to Key Club International's Youth Fund and will be reviewed and selected by representatives of the Key Club International Board. The Board which reviews the applications look for many things, such as:
1. that the projects are planned, developed and implemented by a Key Club or member(s) of a Key Club with adults serving as advisors and/or facilators.
2. allow the Key Club to identify a need, which can be either local or global in scope.
3. creatively use members' skills and energy to design a project around that need.
4. provide a variety of roles and responsibilities for Key Club members to perform.
5. target an area that has the most critical need, both programmatically and geographically.

Grants by the Key Club International Board from the Youth Opportunities Fund must conform to the Objects of Key Club International. The Youth Opportunities Funds are granted only to Key Clubs and/or club members.

The officer training conference, will be held during the month of August. The date, time, and place are still undecided. As soon as this information is determined you will recieve an invitation.
