Lee Trundle (left) talks to Anthony O'Connell (right) before recieving award from him for Season's Top Scorer
Reporter : Hello Lee, do you mind answering a few questions for the Gazette
Trundle : No mate, fire away
Reporter : Thanks, you scored eleven this season, which beats your last season tally of ten, are you
happy with that amount, and your season overall?
Trundle : Yeah im happy as far the goals are concerned, i always try to improve my tally every season,
and having scored roughly a goal for every two games, thats a really good record which im proud of,
but ill be trying to improve it next season definitely,it goes without saying. I dont think i've had a
particularly good season, there have been a few times when the Gaffa has told me i have been
dissapointing, and ive had much more of a demanding role this season because of having to help
Angelos Charisteas out while he learns the ropes for the season, so i havent been able to play my
own game properly all season, but Angelos has come on leaps and bounds all season, and mark my
words, next season he'll be ready, and he'll score alot more than three.
Reporter : Talking of scoring, with Juventus just having been relegated to Division 1, you are tipped
by many pundits to be top scorer of the division. Whats your thoughts?
Trundle: Well of course i'd love it, and its what ill be aiming for definitely, but there are some strong
strikers in that division next season persides myself in guys like Barca's Larsson, Brondby's Madsen,
Roma's Todorov,Lyons Houwing and im sure guys in the Juventus ranks will also be challenging me
for the golden boot in Denny Landzaat and Angelos Charisteas, but fingers crossed ill be able to win
the honour.
Reporter : How about the morale in the Juventus camp at the moment?
Trundle : Me and the lads are still very positive, we all feel that last season wasent satisfactory to the
standard we should be at, and we are very anxious for next season to start to reward the gaffa Rob
Dalling for being so patient with us, were planning on being contenders to win league one next
season and get promoted back to the top flight, were also very hopeful to have a nice run in both
competitions too, and i cant see why not, as were now in a great position to do so.
Reporter : There was talk about you moving to Porto in between seasons, have you any comment on
this?
Trundle : Yeah there was a bit of interest, ive had a few meetings with Neil Stewart but ive turned them
down promptly, im very happy at Juventus and i plan on retiring here, but i am flattered by the interest
of big clubs like Porto and other great clubs, but to answer your question no, i wont be leaving.
Reporter : Youve been described as "Mr Showboat" and "Magic Daps" which has come through all
your fancy skill you have been doing, entertaining the Juventus crowd greatly. Due to your oppersition have been giving you a fair few bumps and kicks, not to mention the away supporters giving you abuse...
Trundle : I love to entertain the crowd, in training i practice all of my tricks and i like to encorporate
them into my game on match day, i like to be different, i feel a need to be different than the
stereotypical robotic like player who runs around for 90 minutes. The fans pay good money to come
and see us play, so they deserve to be entertained, and i feel i wouldnt be doing my part if i didnt do
so. Some players do give me a lot of aggression, but if they have to do this it puts them off their own
game, which inevitably makes it easier for me, so im not dissapointed. If i get a reaction from the away fans, i take it as a compliment, as if they feel they have to boo me, i must be doing something right for them to hate their teams playing me.
Reporter : Lee, thankyou for speaking to me, its a pleasure to present you with the Juventus Top Goalscorer award 2005.
Trundle : Thankyou very much mate, nice speaking to you.
