The Hurricane Digital Memory Bank is a documentary of collected stories, images, and files that reflect the destruction of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma during the hurricane season of 2005. The goal of this site is to “preserve the stories” of the people who were effected by the hurricanes, and to help “historians and archivists to preserve the record of these storms by collecting first-hand accounts, on-scene images, blog postings, and podcasts.” This is an attempt to preserve history as it happens, so that in the future, all of these stories will be on record as an archive on the Internet.

This site addresses anyone who is interested in reading and exploring the accounts of the survivors of this disaster. It addresses both readers who want to learn about the hurricanes by giving the reader the option to browse through the material, and also gives those who were personally affected by this disaster a chance to contribute their stories as writers and contributors/participants in this archive. All of the material on this site has been contributed by different users, so this is all "general" knowledge, contributed by the public.
