This week's devotion is entitled:

Trait #7: Clean Speech

Have you ever heard the saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?" Think about that. That goes for gossip, insults, and profanity. This week I encourage you to read these verses, say this prayer, and examine your speech to see where it needs improvement.

Avoid all perverse talk; stay far from corrupt speech.
~Proverbs 4:24 (NLT)

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
~Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)

A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.
~Proverbs 16:28 (NIV)

Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive.
~Ephesians 4:31 (The Message)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me to stop all gossiping, sarcasm, profanity, and insulting that comes from my mouth. Help me to rise above those worldly things with Your help, Lord. Help me to apply these four verses to my life, and help me to examine my life and see if my speech lines up with Your Word. Thank You for the guidance of Your Word and Your patience in helping me overcome the sins of this world. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
