This week's devotion is entitled:

A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
~Luke 6:45 (New Living Translation)

One of the things alot of Christians struggle with is their language. They talk down to people, they use profanity, they have unclean speech in general. According to the Bible, you speak what is on your heart. If you speak with an unclean tongue, people can't see Jesus in your heart.

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
~Colossians 4:6

This verse encourages us to keep a clean mouth, and to think before we speak.

A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
~Proverbs 15:1

This is the Bible's version of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." But, as old and corny as that cliché is, it is a lesson that we could all stand to learn.

When it comes to how you talk, you should ask yourself, what would Jesus do? Would Jesus talk back to His parents? Would Jesus argue with His teachers? Would Jesus use profanity? Your speech is a reflection of you, and you should want people to see the best in you. As you go through your week, try to catch yourself before you say anything that could hinder you from shining your light.
