Chapter 10

A week had passed and things weren't any better for the Monkees. They missed the kids very much. One afternoon they sat at the table trying to eat their lunch they heard a knock at the door.

"I'll get it." Davy said.

He answered the door and was a little surprised by who he saw. It was Jesse and Heather's new mom.

"Hello. I never did catch your name."

"It's Davy. Please come in." Davy moved away from the door so she could enter.

"Thank you dear. My name is Helen Smith. My husband Rick and I adopted Jesse and Heather."

Peter, Micky, and Mike walked over and joined the two.

"You know, those kids love you and miss you like crazy." Helen said after the others introduced themselves.

"Aww." Micky smiled.

"Well we really miss them too." Mike said with a smile.

"They talk about you all the time. Like this morning as the kids were getting ready for school Jesse called Heather a midget." Helen laughed.

All heads turned to Micky. Micky laughed. "I'm so proud."

"He got that from us. Well mainly Micky. We call Davy that." Peter explained.

Davy shook his head smiling.

"And my friend Peter stopped by. The kids thought for a minute it was you. But Heather seen him and said "Hello Petah." like she was british."

Now all heads turned to Davy who was giggling.

"So she's trying to talk in me accent huh?"

"Yep. And they also keep going around calling people shotguns, and dirty rats."

The boys smiled.

"And all because they miss you so much. So we decided to sell our house and move in this neighborhood. Now they can see you anytime they want."

"That must be a hard decision. You know, selling that big house." Mike said.

"Mr.Nesmith. I know for the short time those kids were here you six were a family. So this isn't a hard decision at all." Helen smiled.

The four boys looked at each other and smiled. "Thank you Mrs.Smith. You don't know what this means to us." Peter said giving off a very dimpled grin.

"You're very welcome." Helen smiled back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hold still." Heather ordered as she brushed Mike's hair.
"I'm nervous. Which woolhat do you guys think I should wear? Green or blue?"
"How 'bout neither." Davy replied.
"Yeah man. No hat." Micky added.
Mike sighed as Heather backed away. "Well?"
"You look very handsome." Heather grinned.
"Nice job, midget." Jesse grinned.
"Thanks."
"See? She likes being called that." Micky told Davy.
"I knew you and Carol were going to get together." Davy grinned.
"Don't gloat." Mike said with a smile.
"Now don't forget to be home by midnight." Micky said in a motherly voice.
Jesse and Heather laughed.
"Don't talk to any strangers." Peter added.
"Are you guys done?" Mike asked. "Nope. Davy didn't add his input. Davy?" Peter asked.
"If you're home even five minutes late. I'm calling your grandfather." Davy smirked.
"Hardy har-har." Mike said.
They heard a car horn.
"Wish me luck!"
"Good luck!" everyone said as Mike ran out the door.
"Well guys. Who wants to go see a movie?" Micky asked.
"I do!" Jesse, Heather, and Peter cried.
"What about you, Dave?"
"Nah. I'll stay here." Davy said.
"You okay?" Peter asked sounding concerned.
Davy smiled. "I'm fine Peter. You guys go. Have a good time."
"Okay. Same rules on Mike also reply for you." Micky teased.
"We'll be back in about two hours." Peter smiled. Then turned back around. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes. I'll see you guys later." Davy waved.
~~~~~~~~

"Hello Grandfather." he said when his grandfather picked up.

"Davy, lad! How are you?"

"I'm wonderful. How are you?"

"Fine."

Davy drew a breath. "Listen the reason I'm calling is to say thank you."

Mr.Jones chuckled. "Alright lad, what'd you do?"

"Nothing."

"Then how much do you need?" Mr.Jones laughed.

"I don't want anything. Really. I've been doing a lot of thinking about things. I know you made a lot of sacrafices for me. I know there were times, especially the first year I moved in with you, when I was really hard to love. But you stuck with me. So thank you. I realize now I've been pretty lucky."

Mr. Jones was speechless. "I'm touched lad. Thank you. That means a lot to me."

"Well. I just wanted you to know that. I'll try to come home for a visit soon. I love you."

Mr.Jones smiled. "I love you too Davy."

Smiling Davy hung up the phone and walked over to the hammock. He laid on it and stared at the ceiling. How'd I get so lucky? he couldn't help but wonder. He was lucky. He lost his parents, but moved in with a wonderful man who took really good care of him. He also had three wonderful older sisters, and now three older brothers who always looked out for him. Some people aren't that lucky as two adorable children had taught him.

A simple wish was all Jesse wanted. And Davy was happy that it was he and his friends who had taught Jesse, that wishes really can come true.

The end!
