Chapter 1

Jesse Slater watched as his father unpacked his clothes. He was too terrifed to move. His father Jack was in a really bad mood. But he was always in a bad mood. His little sister Heather was clutching his hand. They knew what would happen if they moved or spoke. Jesse just wished his father would get it over with.

"Oh great! Teenagers! This is perfect! I see four teenage boys are going to be our neighbors! Bet they like to play loud music!" Jack grumbled taking a drink of beer.

Jesse chewed on his bottom lip.

"Well I'm done! Get your clothes put away and come downstairs!" Jack yelled.

The two kids worked in rapid speed to get their chores done. They raced downstairs and seen their father was sleeping on the couch.

"I wanna go to the beach." Heather whined.

"We can't. Dad's asleep. Unless we go quietly." Jesse grinned.

Heather also flashed a grin, and took his hand.

The two snuck outside. They began working on a sand castle when they noticed a young man with brown hair and wide brown eyes walk by.

"Hello." he said.

"You talk funny." Heather said.

"Heather!" Jesse groaned.

He thought the young man would be angry at her for saying that. He wasn't. If anything he found it funny.

"That's because I'm from England. My name's Davy."

"You're from England?" Jesse asked.

"That's right."

"Do you know the beatles?"

Davy laughed."I wish. What are your names?"

"I'm Jesse. That's Heather."

"Hi." Heather grinned.

"Hello. You two look awfully young to be out here by yourselves." Davy said sounding concerned.

Jesse frowned. "Well our dad said it was okay. Long as we didn't go too far."

"Oh." Davy said.

"Hey Davy! Mike wants you! He's ready for practice." another young man said.

"Look at all those curls!" Heather gasped.

"Aww. You're cute. My name's Micky."

"Like Mickey Mouse?"

Jesse rolled his eyes. "No."

"He's right. Sorry I'm not Micky mouse. I'm Micky Dolenz."

"Well we better get going. It was nice to meet you guys." Jesse grinned.

"It was nice to meet you kids too." Micky smiled.

"Bye." Davy waved with a smile.

"Bye." the kids said.

They raced inside their house.

"They seemed nice." Jesse smiled.

Heather nodded. Then frowned. "I'm hungry." she whined.

"Shh. You'll wake Dad up. I'll fix us some cereal."

"We don't have any. We don't have anything." Heather said starting to cry from hunger.

"Here. Look. I found animal crackers. Looks like we get dinner tonight." Jesse smiled.

"Why don't we have any food?" Heather asked.

"Guess Dad thinks he needs his beer more than we need food." Jesse said.

"I guess so. I hope we see those boys again. They were so nice." Heather smiled.

"Would've been nicer if Davy knew the Beatles. That would've been groovy!"
