Chapter 16

When Peter woke up, Naomi was gone. Her clothes were packed up and she was gone. Peter ran down the hallway to Micky's and knocked on the door saying, "Micky, it's Pete, open up please."

Micky opened the door and said, "What is it?"

"Naomi's gone. We had a fight and her clothes are gone and her suitcases." Peter said.

Micky opened the door and whispered "Elaine's room" to Peter. "Please do not wake Elaine up." he whispered.

Peter walked to Elaine's room and opened the door. Naomi was sleeping on the airbed on the floor. Peter breathed a sigh of relief that she was okay. He crept quietly down to the floor and crawled under the covers with her. He felt the baby and then gently kissed Naomi's forehead.

Elaine was still snoring away. She must have been exhausted. Micky curled back up on the couch after checking on the twins, who were still asleep in the swing. He closed his eyes again and fell immediately back to sleep.

Later that morning, Peter woke up and Naomi was gone, yet again. Elaine was sitting on her bed reading a book. Peter asked, "Where did Naomi go, Elaine?"

Elaine looked at him and said, "She left, Peter."

"Left to go where?" Peter asked.

Elaine looked at her book again and said, "She doesn't want anyone to know and I'm not going against her wishes."

"But what if she goes into premature labor, Elaine? She needs someome there with her." Peter said.

"She's not far enough along yet to go into premature labor, Peter." Elaine said.

"Tell me now, Elaine." Peter said standing up and looking at her.

Micky opened the door and said, "Elaine, the babies are hungry."

"Okay, Micky. Please escort Peter out of our apartment." Elaine said.

"This isn't fair!" Peter said. "You four are really a piece of work, you know that?"

"Peter, arguing isn't going to make it better," Micky said pulling on his friend's arm after giving Elaine the babies and blankets.

Peter left the apartment, but he wasn't happy at all. Micky was no help either. Peter went back to Naomi's apartment and went inside. Her clothes were still gone.

Peter went back to Micky's apartment and went inside. He breathed a huge breath of frustration and then pulled out a can of beer from the fridge. He drank himself into a stupor that day, however, he never left the apartment. He knew better than that.

During the day, Elaine took the babies in their stroller to the park across the street. Micky followed closely behind. This was the babies first time out in the stroller, and she wanted to see how they would do. When Elaine sat on the bench she winced. Micky walked up and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Elaine replied [trying to blow it off]

"That was no nothing Elaine. I saw the wince." Micky replied sitting next to her. "Let me see."

Micky felt Elaine's side and she bit her lip she was in so much pain. "What is it?" Micky asked.

"I made an appointment with Dr. Annabelle for tomorrow, Micky. I need to make it till then. I have no idea what it is, but it hurts like heck." Elaine said wiping the tears from her eyes. "I was hoping a little exercise might help, but it's making it worse. And I need to go shopping for Acetaminophen because that's the only thing I could take during pregnancy and now and I can't go anywhere because that would require taking the babies in public and I just don't do that yet except to Church. And it hurts so badly to walk that I want to fall over."

Elaine kept rambling on and on, Micky finally had to close her mouth with his hands and said, "I will get you the medication. You could have asked me for it."

"I have no freedom anymore, Micky. Absolutely none. I can't do what I want like I used to. I have two gorgeous babies that need looking after now." Elaine said. "I'm going crazy. I am literally going crazy. And now this thing with Peter cheating on Naomi, it is making me absolutely crazy. I miss her so very much, Micky. She's my sister and you have no idea what I am going through."

Micky looked at the babies and said, "I miss her too, Elaine. I feel horrible about Peter. I don't know what's going on because no one tells me anything anymore. I feel abandoned too." Micky stood up from the bench and walked away down by the swingsets. For the first time in Elaine's life, she cried in front of the babies.

"Here you two are," Samantha said walking down the driveway of the parking lot. "We've been looking everywhere for you."

Samantha walked up to Elaine and saw her crying. She looked over at Micky and saw him swinging on the swings by himself. "What's wrong?" Sam asked.

"Nothing," Elaine replied wiping her tears. "What's up?"

"Naomi called and she arrived safely. She told me that she needs you to pick her up at the airport. I thought I would come with."

"What?" Elaine asked confused.

"She didn't get on the flight, Elaine. She's trapped at the airport with no money except for lunch. She would like for us to pick her up. She's having lunch at the diner in the airport. But we just need to go and pick her up. She couldn't go through with leaving us."

Elaine looked at Micky, "Micky come here. Hurry." she yelled.

"Yes, what is it?" he asked coming over.

"Take the babies. Sam and I need to go to the airport. Naomi didn't go through with it." Elaine said smiling at him.

"Praise God." Micky said giving the girls a hug.

"Here's the diaper bag and I pumped four bottles of milk earlier this morning. You should be okay until we return." Elaine said.

"Okay," Micky replied. "Drive carefully."

"Sam's driving. I still don't have driving privileges yet." Elaine replied. "Hopefully tomorrow."

The two girls ran to Sam's car and got inside. Elaine was so happy. Although when the babies saw their mommy running away from them they screamed like bloody murder. Micky pushed them back across the street and Elaine heard them screaming in horror.

"Hold on a minute, Sam." she said getting out of the car and going to her babies reassuring them mommy would return and wasn't abandoning them.
