Chapter 6

Author's side note: Yes, this story is Christian and nature (although it might not seem like it in this part. Elaine woke up the following morning covered in sweat. "Whoa! What happened?" she asked herself. She opened up the door to her bedroom and looked in the livingroom. Her girlfriends were lying on the couches sound asleep. "I thought I was at Micky's apartment?" she asked herself.

She walked to the fridge and got her medication and took it. She must have had a very real and visual dream to imagine herself in Micky's apartment.

She sat down at the table and took some deep breaths. She shivered in the wetness of her sweat dripping down her face and chest.

"Elaine? What's wrong?" Samantha asked waking up and walking into the kitchen to her friend. "Why are you covered in sweat?"

"I've been asking myself the same question, Sam. I haven't a clue." Elaine replied taking another sip of her Coke.

Just then there was a knock on the door, "Elaine open up please. It's Micky." Elaine walked to the door and opened it up. He was standing there dripping wet from sweat as well.

"What happened, Micky?" Elaine asked looking at him.

"The same thing as you." Micky replied.

"We must have been hallucinating." Elaine replied letting him inside the apartment.

"No, we were having a convergence dream together." Micky said.

"A what?" Samantha asked confused.

"A convergence dream," Micky replied. "I've done research on the topic before. It's when two people share each other's dreams."

Elaine pulled Micky into her room and asked, "Was I in your room last night?"

"I thought you were. Maybe we were both so tired of fighting that God made us both make up in our dreams because that's what he wants us to do in reality. I don't know. Maybe it was all subconscious." Micky replied.

Elaine went to her dresser and pulled out a package. "Here, this is for you. Take this in the extra bathroom and shower and put it on."

"You didn't have to get me anything, Elaine." Micky said.

"I know. But as part of my congratulations on my program, I am to bless people. I saw this and wanted to bless you with it." Elaine replied. Micky opened the box and looked at the contents inside. "These are absolutely beautiful, Elaine. Thank you." Micky said looking at her.

"You're welcome. I think they are the right size." Elaine replied.

"You really are remarkable, aren't you?" Micky asked.

"I'm just me, Elaine Grace Nelson, Micky. No one special, just me."

"You are very special to me, Elaine." Micky said.

"I'm not special to anyone, Micky." Elaine said taking her clothes into her private bathroom and closing the door. Micky looked at the pajamas and they were his favorite color and his size. Such a sweet gift from a good friend. He went to the spare bathroom and walked inside.

"What did she bless you with, Micky?" Samantha asked.

"These," Micky said holding them up.

"She blessed all of us with pajamas. We all have ours on as well. She's an angel." Sam said.

"Yes, she most certainly is." Micky replied.

Elaine sat in the bathroom and cried quietly to herself. Yes, she was a healthy weight again, however, she still felt very fat and ugly inside. She suffered every day with that emotional trauma, even during therapy. It was to help her grow and learn from the experience and then to one day try to put it behind her, which would be another tough lesson.

Micky turned on the shower and got under the warm water. He looked at everything she had done to the bathroom and smiled. She was the most remarkable person he had ever met in his life aside from his mother and sister, Coco.

Elaine heard the water on in the other shower and cried even more. She hated herself at that moment for not being able to express her feelings to him. She was so scared of getting close to him that it made her even more standoffish.

When Micky was finished with his shower, he put on the new pajamas and they were very comfortable for him. He walked back out into the livingroom and the girls were all asleep again.

He went into Elaine's room and said, "Elaine, you finished with your shower yet?"

"No," he heard from the door. "You can go home."

"But I wanted to talk to you more about the dream." Micky said in a gentle voice.

"Nothing to say, it was a dream. A very vivid dream." Elaine said through the door. Micky could sense her hiding something. "I read your book you gave to me last night." he said to her.

"Good for you." Elaine said. "You probably got lots of laughs and chuckles out of it, too, didn't you?"

"No, actually I didn't." he replied. "But it did help me to understand you a little more."

"Nothing to understand about me, Micky. I'm a living, breathing, human being with feelings just like everyone else."

"You are that and way more, Elaine." Micky said softly as he stood next to the door and listened to her.

"Please go home." Elaine said sitting back down on the tub and closing her eyes.

"The pajamas fit me very nicely, Elaine. Do you want to see?" Micky asked.

"No," Elaine replied. "You've been blessed, so now please just go."

"I'm not going to let you push me away, Elaine. I won't do it any further." Micky said sitting on her bed and folding his legs.

Elaine started the water and then got into the shower. She washed her tired, sweaty body with her favorite body wash along with her long, waist-length hair. After she put on her body lotion, she put on her pajamas. When she walked back into the bedroom, he was sitting on the bed.

"Now what?" she asked as she brushed her long hair putting it into a ponytail.

"Now we take it one day at a time, Elaine." Micky said.

"But you know so much about me now and I feel like I don't know anything about you." Elaine said.

Micky covered them up with a blanket and asked, "Well, what do you want to know about me?"

"About what that man said at the restaurant." Elaine said.

Micky looked at her and said, "You'll hate me if I tell you."

"Trust issue, Micky. Trust issue." Elaine said smiling at him holding his hands.

Micky took in a deep breath and told Elaine about his days touring on the road to all the cities, what they went through stress wise, and some of the things they did on the road that was not too wise. When he was finished, he looked at Elaine and her eyes were closed. "You okay?" he asked.

"Yes, fine. Just meditating on your words." Elaine replied.

"You hate me, don't you?" Micky asked taking his hands out of hers and looking sideways.

"Hate is a strong word, Micky." Elaine said. "I might dislike some of the things you have just told me, and I might dislike the fact that you chose to keep them from me on purpose, and I might dislike the fact that your friends are making moves on my friends, however, I do not 'hate' you, Micky."

Elaine took a deep breath and said, "In order for this friendship to grow even more, Micky, I will need complete and total honesty from you here on out."

"You got it," Micky said looking at her.

"How many?" Elaine asked looking at him.

"How many what?" Micky asked.

"Bombshells." Elaine replied.

"Please don't ask me that, Elaine." Micky begged.

"Complete and total honesty." Elaine said looking at him.

"In all honesty, I lost track," Micky replied.

"I see." Elaine said standing up from the bed and walking to the bedroom door.

"I told you you would hate me." Micky said.

"How many years ago?" Elaine asked.

"Well the band disbanded a few years ago, so it would have been before that." Micky said.

"I see." Elaine said opening up the bedroom door and slamming it shut behind her after walking out.

Elaine walked into the kitchen and Samantha asked, "Something wrong?"

"Nope, nothing at all." Elaine replied. "Everything is just hunky dorey Samantha Kay." Elaine took a Coke from the fridge and left the apartment.

"Elaine?" Sam called out following behind her friend.

Micky went to the bedroom window and looked out. He saw Elaine outside with Samantha. He cracked the window a notch and listened.

"What's wrong, Elaine?" Samantha asked.

"Nothing, it's personal." Elaine replied.

"About you and him?" Sam asked.

"Again, it's personal, Sam." Elaine replied.

"But you can tell me, we're best friends and sisters, Elaine." Sam said.

"I said it's personal and leave me alone!" Elaine screamed walking away from her friend.

Micky closed the window and sat on the bed waiting for Elaine to return. He didn't want to leave her in that state of mind.

~~~~~~~~
Hours later, Elaine walked inside the apartment and looked at everyone. "Where did you go?" Louise asked.
"Sat on the front porch of the building." Elaine replied.
"You want to talk about it?" Louise asked.
"No, I just want to be quiet the rest of the night." Elaine said walking into her room and closing the door.
Elaine looked at Micky sitting there and asked, "You didn't get the clue to leave?"
"No. I didn't want to leave you in this mind frame right now." Micky replied.
"What you did in your past has absolutely nothing to do with me." Elaine said. "And furthermore, that was 'your' past, Micky. Yours! You can feel ashamed and come to God over it begging for forgiveness."
"But it made me wiser and who I am today, Elaine. I don't take any of it back." Micky said.
"Until you can full-heartedly repent for what you have done, I want nothing to do with you again." Elaine said.
"How do I do that?" Micky asked.
"Figure it out," Elaine screamed at him and pushed him through the door slamming it behind him.
Micky looked at her friends and then said, "I best go now."
"I think you should," Samantha said. "Whatever it is has got her extremely upset."
Micky walked back to his apartment and layed down on the bed. He stared at the ceiling and called out to God asking for his help on the situation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A month had gone by and the girls went back to Massachusetts knowing Elaine would be okay. Elaine, however, was more and more withdrawn than ever. Even her Sunday School parents had noticed a change in her.

One day after class on Sunday, Elaine looked at Charlotte and said, "I quit."

"Quit what?" Charlotte asked as she got her books together.

"Teaching." Elaine replied.

"What? Why?" Charlotte asked. "The children love you."

"It's not fun anymore." Elaine replied. "And the children are brats."

"I can't believe this is coming from you, Elaine." Charlotte said. "You love these kids."

"I did love them and now I don't," Elaine replied grabbing her books and throwing them all across the room and walking out. "I quit."

"Elaine wait!" Charlotte yelled. "Talk to me about this please. What is going on."

"I quit," Elaine replied. "That's what's going on. I quit." Elaine walked out of the sanctuary and didn't see Micky sitting on the bench staring at the pictures.

Micky looked at Charlotte and Charlotte asked, "Do you have any idea why she is like this?"

"Vaguely," Micky replied. "But rest assured it has nothing to do with you, the kids, or the church. It has to do with me."

"Well fix it, whatever it is." Charlotte said.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Micky walked to the parking lot and looked out. He saw Elaine driving away. He went to his car and got inside. He followed behind her for a ways. She went through the drive-thru line at McDonald's and then went back to her apartment. Micky pulled into her parking lot behind her car and got out.
"You want to take it out on me?" He asked. "I'm ready if you do."
"Take what out on you?" Elaine turned around and asked.
"Your frustrations with the class, and with me?" Micky asked.
"Nothing to discuss. It's done and over with. Goodnight." Elaine said walking into her apartment and closing the door.
Micky went back to his apartment and called her. However, he got her answering machine. "Elaine shutting yourself out from the world isn't going to help you grow as a person or your recovery. You need to talk about this with someone and I want it to be with me. Remember, I'm your 'support person.' I'm here for you when, and if, you decide to talk. Micky."
~~~~~~~~~

Two months had gone by and Micky didn't hear from Elaine at all. She had even stopped going to church altogether, which was not like her at all.

One night, Micky started to pray very deeply while he was lying on the bed. He hadn't ever been able to pray like that before. But that night it came naturally to him. He was very happy, as he had been praying for his own private prayer language for a long time.

At his apartment, around 2am, there was a knock on the door. He opened it and saw Elaine standing there.

"Well, hello." she said in a different voice.

"What are you doing here at this hour?" Micky asked.

"Nothing," Elaine replied walking into the apartment and closing the door. She sat down on his couch and looked at him. "Remember how you told me I would hate you and I told you hate was a strong word?" she asked.

"Yes, I remember." Micky said.

"Well, I lied. I hate you to the core." Elaine said opening up her purse and throwing something at him.

"What is that for?" Micky asked.

"It's for you." Elaine said.

"I don't need that." Micky replied putting it back on the table in front of her.

"What? I'm not a bombshell?" Elaine asked.

"You're drunk," Micky replied. "I can smell the liquor from here."

"You have no idea what I am, Micky. Just because you read my recovery notebook does not make you an expert on Elaine Grace Nelson."

"I never said I was an expert, Elaine." Micky said looking at her. "Why are you here?" Micky asked.

"Beginning to ask myself that same question." Elaine replied.

"Drinking will never solve your problems, Elaine." Micky said.

Elaine looked at him and then said, "Tell you what. You mind your own business and we won't have anymore issues, okay?"

"There are no issues, Elaine. You need to go to sleep and rest." Micky said.

"And, you need to know when to shut up." Elaine replied looking at him.

"This is not appropriate and you know it." Micky said.

"What's not appropriate, Micky? Me sitting on your couch half asleep? Oh wow that's really front line news." Elaine replied sarcastically.

"I hate you to the core," Elaine said collapsing on his couch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a day of throwing up at Micky's, Elaine groggily made her way back to his couch and collapsed.
"It's fun being a drunk, isn't it?" Micky asked.
"Be quiet, Micky." Elaine said looking at him.
"Just what everyone tells you about liquor. Oh man, it's such a great time. Let's do this all the time and voila, you're puking your brains out every day and every night. Woohoo, what a good time, isn't it Elaine?"
"No, it's a horrible time, Micky. It brings back your pain three-folds in every drop that you drink. Then your heart starts to race dramatically and you think you're dying of a heart attack. It's hardly a good time."
"Then why do it?" Micky asked.
"I suppose I could ask you that same question, Micky. Why on earth did you do what you did?" Elaine asked rolling over onto her side staring at him.
"Was it just because the other guys were doing that sort of stuff as well? That everyone said, here Micky try this, it's not going to hurt you. Or here Micky, isn't she the most beautiful thing ever? Why did you do what you did?"
"I was stupid." Micky replied.
"Well maybe tonight is my one night of stupidness, Micky. Out of 35 years, I think I deserve one night of stupidness." Elaine said closing her eyes, as the room was spinning around and around in circles. "Maybe one day, you'll wake up and realize what a good thing you had and then it will be too late." she gasped and passed out on the couch.
Micky walked over to her and felt her tummy. She was still breathing. He bent down beside her and said, "I know what a good thing I have, Elaine. I know that." He kissed her forehead and then covered her up with a blanket.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After that one night, it was as if no tension had been passed between them. Micky had been helping Elaine with her support meetings and Elaine had been helping Micky with his drum lessons. She was kind of his guinea pig for the smaller students who were too afraid of the drums. They sat on Elaine's lap and she held them while they played the drums.

One night after four drum lessons, Micky asked Elaine, "You hungry?"

"Famished." Elaine replied.

"How about Taco Hut?" Micky asked.

"Mmmm, sounds delicious." Elaine replied grabbing her purse.

At Taco Hut, Micky and Elaine went inside. She kicked her legs up on the booth next to Micky's legs. "I am so tired," Elaine said yawning.

"Me too," Micky replied. "Have you talked to the girls?"

"Which one?" Elaine asked.

"Any of them." Micky replied.

"Well Peter has been actively pursuing Naomi long-distance, as well as Mike with Samantha. Matter of fact, they are coming for the weekend this weekend to spend some time with the guys."

"They are?" Micky asked.

"Yep." Elaine replied. "I guess the little short one from your show is back in town and wants to meet Louise."

"Davy's back?" Micky asked.

"Yeah got back two weeks ago I guess. I just found out today." Elaine replied.

"No one called and told me." Micky said shocked. "Hmm, that's interesting."

"Well, one of the reasons they might not have called you is because his first night back, him, Mike, and Peter got into a fistfight and Peter wound up going to the hospital for stitches." Elaine said.

"What?" Micky asked. "Why?"

"I don't know," Elaine yawned. "That is just what they told me. Louise is smitten though as Samantha showed her what Davy looked like and she's on cloud-9."

"Have any of them had serious relationships before, Elaine?" Micky asked.

"Nope." Elaine replied. "For me, you're the first one I've let close to me."

"Well, I'm honored." Micky said taking a sip of his drink.

"I wish I could say the same thing, Micky." Elaine replied putting her legs down and walking off to the ladies room. Micky knew she was still hurting inside and that it would take time for her to heal.

When she came back to the booth and sat down, Micky said, "I ordered you a beef burrito and some refried beans."

"Thanks." Elaine replied.

"You're welcome." Micky replied.

Elaine took out her stomach pills and took some before the food arrived. She loved tacos, but they did not love her.

When their food came, Elaine sat up straight and put her head back. "Something wrong?" Micky asked.

"Just a dizzy spell." Elaine replied. "It will pass."

"What from?" Micky asked.

"It's a side effect from all the trauma my body has been through." Elaine replied. "Whoa!" She breathed outward and started to sway. She fell to the edge of the booth and hit her head.

"Elaine? You okay?" Micky asked walking around to help her sit up.

"That hurt," she cried out rubbing her head.

"I'm sorry baby," Micky said kissing her head.

"Is she okay?" the waitress asked.

"Yes, she's fine. Just sat up too quickly." Micky said holding onto Elaine. "Take deep breaths like you learned in relaxation."

Elaine closed her eyes and put her hands on her tummy. She focused on making her hands rise and fall to her breathing.

After about five minutes of deep breathing, Micky felt her head on his shoulder. He knew she had fallen asleep. He sat there quietly eating his food holding her in his arms. It had been a long day for both of them and they needed some rest and relaxation.

After he got her food in carryout box, he carried her to the car and came back for the food. By the time he had got them back to his apartment, she was snoring very loudly. He had never heard her snore that loudly before. It was almost ear shreaking.

He checked the messages on the machine and there was one from Sam. "Hey Micky, tell Laney, we're at her apartment. We're hoping she doesn't mind. Me, Louise, and Naomi are here. That's what I meant to say. Please call me that you got my message. How is Laney doing? We've been worried about her with the pregnancy."

Micky listened to the message over and over again. "Pregnancy?" Micky asked.

Micky called Samantha up and said, "Sam, what pregnancy?"

"Huh?" Samantha asked. "You don't know."

"Know what?" Micky asked.

"OMGosh," Sam said and then covered the phone. "He has no idea she's pregnant."

"She hasn't told him yet?" Naomi asked.

"Oh dear God maker of heaven and earth," Samantha said holding up her arms to the sky.

"Sam, Sam? You there?" Micky said over and over again.

Sam cleared her throat [mhmm] and said, "Yes, sorry about that, Micky. I'm here."

"Uh-huh and what pregnancy are you talking about?" Micky asked.

"Did I say pregnancy on that message? I sure did bumble those words, Micky. I meant to say buoyancy in the pool instead."

"Huh?" Micky asked confused. Louise and Naomi were laughing at Sam.

"Where is Laney anyway?" Sam asked.

"She's asleep on the couch and she's snoring very loudly. I've never heard her snore that loudly before. Is that normal?" Micky asked.

"Yes, it's normal, Micky. The baby is pushing against her ribcage." Samantha said and then hit her head.

"Excuse me?" Micky asked. "What baby?"

"Micky sit down please." Samantha said holding her head in her hands.

"I'm sitting." Micky said sitting next to Elaine looking at her.

"Don't you notice anything different about Elaine?" Samantha asked.

"No, why should I?" Micky asked.

"Take a closer look at her Micky. Look in her tummy area." Samantha said.

Micky pulled up Elaine's top a tiny bit and saw the bump. "Oh dear God, maker of heaven and earth!" he said looking at the bump.

"She never told me anything about it." Micky said.

"She just found out, Micky. Not more than a week ago. Please don't be mad at her." Sam said. "I'm sure she was waiting until she was farther along to tell you."

"But she's showing already," Micky said.

"I know. It's because she's so thin now, Micky. She just found out she's four months pregnant."

"Four months?" Micky asked.

"Yes. It was a shock to her as well, Micky. Please do not be mad at her. With everything she's been through this past year or so, it's amazing how she's able to keep the baby."

"And when did she find out?" Micky asked.

"Just about a week ago, Micky. Please do not be mad at her." Samantha begged and pleaded with him.

"We were arguing four months ago. I don't see how she could be." Micky said.

"I don't know." Samantha said.

"OMGosh she drank while she was pregnant. What if the baby is deformed?" Micky asked.

"She didn't know she was pregnant when it happened, Micky. The baby is fine. The doctors have checked it out thoroughly."

"How come her friends know before the father of the baby?" Micky asked.

"I don't know, Micky." Samantha said.

Elaine rolled over onto her side and yawned. Micky told Sam, "Hang on, mother to be is rolling over now." Micky handed the phone to Elaine and said, "Mother to be, you have a phone call."

Elaine looked at the phone and said, "Hello."

"Laney, we're at your apartment. Just wanted you to know." Samantha said.

"Did you tell Micky?" Elaine asked.

"Inadvertently. He was wondering why you were snoring so loudly and I told him the baby was pressing against your ribcage."

"Thanks alot, Samantha!" Elaine said screaming into the phone. "That was my news to tell him and not anyone else's."

"I'm sorry, Laney." Samantha said.

Elaine hung up the phone and walked into Micky's bedroom. He was sitting on the bed looking at the wall. "I'm sorry. I was going to tell you when I was farther along." Elaine said.

"Four months is pretty far, don't ya think there, Elaine?" Micky asked.

"Well I wanted to make it five because the first three months are the iffy period." Elaine replied.

"What if I said I didn't want to be a father?" Micky said looking at her.

"It's okay, I can raise the child by myself, Micky. I know you're upset over it all, but please don't be. It's a blessing from God after everything I've been through this past year." Elaine said sitting down next to him.

"You mean everything 'we've' been through, right?" Micky asked.

"Yes, sorry, 'we've' been through Micky." Elaine replied.

"You know I will have to marry you." Micky said. "You can't have a baby before being married."

"I've already talked to God about that, Micky, and he understands it was an accident." Elaine replied.

"Well, this is definitely a news shocker, Elaine." Micky said rolling over onto his side with his back towards her.

"I understand that, Micky. I know you're mad at me for not telling you. But I was going to." Elaine said. "I'll just go back to the apartment now. Goodnight." Elaine walked to his apartment door and looked into the room once more and then left the apartment.

She walked back to her apartment building and found the girls there. "Big mouths!" Elaine said at Samantha.

"I'm sorry." Sam said. "He obviously didn't take the news very well."

"No, he did not. He does not want to be a father and who could blame him. I wouldn't want to be a mother either. I have never wanted children and still don't."

"But God blessed you with a beautiful baby, Elaine." Louise said.

"Then he can unbless me as well." Elaine replied walking into her room and slamming the bedroom door.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the weeks went on, Micky was very standoffish with Elaine. She had stopped going to his drum lessons with him and focused on her support program by herself.
[start of dream sequence] One night, as the support program was getting ready to start, Micky walked in and sat down by Elaine. "Look who is here." Elaine said writing down in her notebook.
"I'm sorry I haven't been around." Micky replied.
"Don't be. I had a miscarriage and the baby died." Elaine replied.
"You had a what?" Micky asked shocked.
"You heard me," Elaine replied. "You don't need to be here with me. I'm just fine."
"Why didn't you call me?" Micky asked.
"And say what? Oh the kid you never wanted to father died? BTW, it was a nice burial." Elaine said. "Here's your copy of the pamphlet. I named him Michael George, somewhat after your name at least."
"I can't believe this, Elaine. You are lying to me." Micky said.
Just then he woke up screaming, "NO please don't let our baby die." [end of dream sequence]
"Mr. Dolenz, let what baby die?" he heard someone ask him.
Micky looked around and it was just Elaine and the teacher. Micky blew out a few breaths and then looked at Elaine.
"You fell asleep and no, the baby did not die." She said.
"Oh dear heavens," Micky said clutching his chest and wiping the sweat from his face. "It was so real." Micky said.
"Nightmares are sometimes very real, Micky. That's why it's best to not sleep until it's nighttime and you're at home." the teacher said.
At his apartment that night, he wouldn't let Elaine out of his sight. He followed her everywhere. "Let me touch the baby again, Elaine. Please." Micky said over and over again.
"You've touched it on the couch, while I was getting a drink at the sink, even while I was lying down to take my nap after class. The baby is fine, Micky."
"Let me touch it again, please." he begged.
"Fine," Elaine said sitting down with a 7-up and soda crackers. She munched on the crackers while he touched her tummy. "I told you the baby is fine."
"I know but that nightmare was so real, Elaine. You had buried the baby and everything without my knowledge." Micky said.
"Well, that's not the case here, Micky. The baby is just fine." Elaine replied eating more crackers and taking a sip of her pop.
"Is he moving yet?" Micky asked.
"A little." Elaine replied.
"Does it hurt?" Micky asked.
"A little." Elaine replied. "I need to get to my apartment Micky. I still have to do laundry yet."
"No, stay over here tonight. Please. I need to make sure you and the baby are okay." Micky said.
"Okay, this paranoia thing is driving me bonkers, Micky. Me and the baby are just fine." Elaine said walking out to her car and getting inside.
"Call me when you get home please. I'll come over there and stay then." Micky said.
"Micky, I need my rest. The baby needs its rest. You need your rest. I need to do laundry and take a hot shower."
"You'll burn the baby with a hot shower." Micky said.
"Hello! The baby is inside me. He is not going to be burned, Micky. Just breathe and relax. Would you please?"
"I need to stay over there tonight, Elaine, or I'll call you every five seconds." Micky said getting more nervous by the minute. "Plus we need to make the hospital plans yet too."
"I am doing laundry, taking a shower, and going to sleep Micky. Beyond that, I will not be doing anything else." Elaine said.
"You can't bend over to pickup the clothes." Micky said. "I need to be there with you."
"Micky, I am not even six months yet. I have lots of time yet." Elaine said. "You're driving me insane. I am going now. Goodnight."
"Every five seconds, I will time it." Micky said.
"GRRRRRR, fine." Elaine said. "Hurry up."
"I will." Micky replied. "I'll drive over there."
Elaine drove back to her apartment and went inside. She breathed a sigh of relief knowing that she was back in her own place. She loved Micky to pieces, but it was like he was the mother. Elaine bent down to get her dirty clothes and put them into the washer. She took it very slowly and breathed very deeply making sure her and the baby got enough oxygen.
Just as she sat down, Micky arrived in the apartment. "I'm here. I'll help you with the clothes now."
"It's already done," Elaine replied.
"You didn't wait for me to help?" Micky asked hurt.
"No, sorry." Elaine replied. "I wanted to do it right away before sitting down."
Micky sat down next to her and felt her tummy. "Hello baby," he said bending down to kiss her tummy. Elaine rolled her eyes. It was as if he was her mother.
Elaine yawned and said, "Mommy is tired."
"You can't shower then. You might slip and fall." Micky said.
"I can shower and I will when my clothes are ready for the dryer, Micky." Elaine said.
"I'll help you shower then." Micky said.
"Hello! I said I am fine. If you're going to be this overprotective, go back home." Elaine said. "Next time I'm at the doctor's I'm asking for her to give you some Valium to help you relax."
"I'm relaxed." Micky said putting his hands on her tummy again. He closed his eyes as he roamed his hands around her tummy feeling the baby inside her.
When her clothes shut off in the washer, she got up and walked to the dryer. "Let me help you baby." Micky said.
"Go and sit down before I scream and bring everyone over here. You're driving me absolutely insane. I am fine, the baby is fine, and let me do what I need to do please." Elaine said raising her voice at him.
Micky walked back over to the couch and sat down. He opened a can of Coke and took a sip. Elaine put the clothes into the dryer and then started it. She then walked into her room and closed the door. She needed her shower so badly, as her hair was all dirty and gritty and it itched profusely.
As Elaine was getting her maternity pajamas, Micky poked his head through the bedroom door and asked, "May I sit on the bed in case you need me?"
"Fine," Elaine said. "I won't need you, but you can sit there."
Micky sat on the bed while Elaine went into the bathroom. She closed and locked the door behind her. "If I have to put up with him like this another three months, I'll be put on Valium," Elaine said to herself as she sat down on the toilet and breathed a sigh of relief. "Peace and quiet" she breathed to herself.
"Did you fall asleep?" she heard from the door. "I don't hear any water running."
"Grrrrrrr," she said to herself as she finished getting ready for her shower.
He relaxed when he heard the water running. He still couldn't believe they were going to be parents.
After her shower was over with, the bathroom door unlocked. "Can you help me please?" he heard her ask.
"Yes, of course. What is it?" Micky asked.
"Can you sit here in case I need your help." Elaine asked.
"Yes, of course." Micky replied.
Elaine sat back on the toilet and got herself into her maternity pajamas after applying her body lotion and putting her special lotion for her tummy. "Thank you," Elaine said walking over to him in her slippers.
"You're welcome," Micky replied.
Elaine crawled in the bed and Micky covered her up with the comforter. He locked up her apartment and crawled in the bed with her. He held his hand on her tummy all night long. Sometimes he even felt the baby kicking inside her.
That following morning, Micky woke up and Elaine was snoring very loudly again. So loudly in fact that she had slept through her alarms. "Do you want to get up now, Elaine, or sleep some more? You slept through your alarms." he asked her.
She rolled over onto her side and said, "Sleep."
"Are you supposed to work today?" he asked.
"No, it's Saturday remember?" Elaine replied.
"I don't know, all my days blend anymore." Micky replied.
