When Elaine returned back from her vacation to Colorado, she had already spent most of her time in deep prayer, fasting, and touring the City with Samantha. Now, she was ready to make things work between her and Micky. After putting her first load of dirty laundry in the washer, she sat down on her couch and called Micky.
"Hello," She heard.
"Hi Micky, it's Elaine. How are you?" she asked.
"I'm fine. How was your trip with Samantha?" Micky asked.
"It was very nice. I was wondering are you available to meet me for dinner tonight?" Elaine asked.
"Yes, I would love to meet you for dinner." Micky replied. "What time?"
"How about you meet me at the little Dairiette over there on 9th and Parlor around 6pm?" Elaine asked.
"Six pm at the Dairiette over on 9th and Parlor. Okay sounds good to me." Micky said.
"Thanks, see you then." Elaine replied hanging up the phone.
Micky took a shower, shaved, and got himself dressed into his nicest jeans and a t-shirt. He was happy that she had called and he would do anything to move forward with their relationship, if that was something she wanted them to do.
At 6pm, Elaine was sitting in a corner booth at the Dairiette when Micky walked in. "I'm not late, am I?" he asked.
"Nope, I got here early to just get a quiet booth and relax." Elaine replied.
"Whew, okay then." Micky said sitting down next to her.
The waitress came over and took their orders.
Elaine and Micky spent quite a while discussing what had happened between them; what she learned on her vacation time with Sam and the Lord; and, what would have to happen to build the friendship back up to where it was before the argument.
After dinner that night and their long discussion, Elaine told him, "I want us to take things really slow again like when we first met. And I want us to be open and honest with each other about how we are feeling if it's too constraining or too lax. I want us to build open communication and trust again between us, okay?"
"Yes, that's fine, Elaine. I will do whatever you want to make this work out. I do not want to lose you as a friend." Micky replied.
"Good, then how about we take a stroll along the bikepath tonight and stare at the stars." she asked.
"Sounds like a plan to me, Elaine." Micky said smiling.
Over the following months, Elaine and Micky worked really hard at building their trust between each other again. Micky, especially, had to work really hard and not push her into anything she was not ready for. One Friday night, after work, Elaine wound up on his doorstep knocking on the door.
"Elaine! What a nice surprise!" Micky said opening the door.
"Hi! I know I should have called first, but I had picked up this pizza for dinner and I kind of knew you were home with your car being in the lot, and I thought we could have dinner together and possibly watch a movie together; if you weren't busy that is." Elaine said.
"Come inside. No I'm not busy at all." Micky replied.
Elaine put the pizza down on his counter and they sat at his table eating it. "So how was your day?" he asked.
"Busy. Very busy." Elaine replied. "And yours?"
"Only four drum lessons today, which wasn't that bad. I took a long run at the park after work to unwind. I just finished getting dressed after my shower when you knocked on the door." he replied.
They shared a nice night together eating pizza and watching movies. Elaine ended up falling asleep on his couch during one of the movies. Micky covered her up with a blanket and gently put a pillow underneath her head. She had rolled over onto her side and took a deep breath and relaxed saying, "Ahhhh." Micky stood there to see if she would wake up, but she stayed asleep. He chuckled quietly under his breath at her.
She still was so beautiful in his eyes and he was so happy that she gave him a second-chance, and he was certainly not going to blow it either. He shortly went to sleep just listening to her gentle breathing.
~~~~~
That next day, Micky woke up to a note on the couch. She had gone back to her apartment and she thanked him for having dinner with her and to keep the leftovers.
At her apartment, Elaine put on her sweats and a t-shirt and started to scrub the apartment from top to bottom. Saturdays were generally her cleaning days no matter how tired she felt. She couldn't stand living in a messy apartment.
After she finished cleaning the top of her cabinet shelves, the phone rang. She climbed down carefully and answered the phone gasping, "Hello."
"Elaine, this is Chelsea, did I catch you at a bad time?" she asked.
"Hi Chelsea, sorry I was cleaning my kitchen cabinets and that's why I'm breathing this way." Elaine replied.
"Listen, Elaine, I know it's Saturday. But we have a young girl here that we've been trying to counsel, but she's very afraid to talk to us at all. We were kind of wondering if Lacey was to bring her over to you if you could sit with her and see if she might talk to you. Lacey will be there and take notes, but we're hoping that someone outside of the facility might get her to open up."
"When were you wanting to bring her by, Chelsea? I have a ton of things all over my floors right now because I've been cleaning all morning." Elaine asked.
"Well, Lacey has her in the room right now and she's ready to go if I say the word. We don't care what your apartment looks like, Elaine. We care about this little one." Chelsea said.
"I won't be written up by you then for having a messy place?" Elaine asked terrified.
"No, I promise you." Chelsea said.
"Fine, send them over. But have Lacey give me at least half an hour to shower and look decent, ok?" Elaine asked.
"Yes, that's fine. I'll have Lacey stop and get her something to eat then." Chelsea replied.
"Thanks," Elaine said blowing out a breath. She was covered in sweat.
"Thanks for doing this for us, Elaine. You're one of God's angels, remember?" Chelsea said.
"Yes, I remember." Elaine replied. "I need to shower now. I will see them when they get here."
"Thanks again." Chelsea replied.
"You're welcome." Elaine said hanging up the phone. "Oh my goodness gracious, look at this place." She looked at her kitchen floor and everything was on the floor. She had her couch cushions everywhere.
There was a knock on her door. "OMG, they're early." Elaine freaked.
Elaine walked to the door and it was Micky. "Help me!" she said pulling him into the apartment.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"They are bringing me a girl to counsel and I need my kitchen and living room picked up. But I need to shower as well. Can you please, please help me so I can take a shower?" Elaine asked.
"Yes, of course, I'll help you, Elaine." he said.
"Thank you. Praise God!" Elaine said pulling him into the kitchen. "Just shove everything back in the cabinets and put my couch cushions back down. Don't worry about anything else, okay?"
"Okay," he replied.
Elaine ran into the bedroom to get her clothes and then she jumped in the shower. Micky put away everything into the cabinets and then fixed the couch cushions. When Elaine came out of the bathroom, she said, "Thank you so much, Micky." She gave him a huge hug and kiss.
"You're welcome. Glad I could help. Can I wait in the closet while you counsel the girl? I was hoping to take you to lunch."
"Hmmm," Elaine said. "How about you hide in my bedroom in the bathroom in there. That way you won't be able to hear anything going on. I can't jeopardize confidentiality."
"Okay, that works for me, Elaine." Micky said.
Elaine kissed him again and said, "I love you."
"I love you too, Elaine." Micky said walking behind her into her bedroom. "Excuse my mess, I'm cleaning in here too."
"That's fine." Micky said following her to her bathroom. "This is nice."
"Thanks," she said. "I'll come and get you when we're finished, ok? I don't know how long this will take either. It's a special case."
"That's fine. I had no plans today." Micky said shutting his cell phone off and sitting on the toilet seat.
Elaine brushed her hair and put on some makeup before there was a knock on her door. "Just a minute," she yelled.
She gave Micky one more kiss and then walked out of the bathroom into her bedroom and closed the door behind her. She closed her bedroom door after turning on her soothing music in the background.
She walked to the door and opened it. "Good afternoon ladies," Elaine said pulling her hair up into a clip while opening the door.
"Good afternoon Elaine. This is Jenna. I'm sorry about the rush. But I know Chelsea called you." Lacey said.
"Jenna, you go sit with Elaine and I'm going to sit over here and take notes, okay?" Lacey said.
"Drop dead!" the girl said to her.
Elaine took in a deep breath and thought, "This is going to be a tough one. Please dear God help me through this."
Elaine looked at Jenna and smiled saying, "Come on Jenna, let's go sit over here, okay?"
"Bite me," Jenna said.
"Now Jenna, those words are not words that God would want you to use when being talked to." Elaine said.
"And you are not God, now are you?" Jenna asked.
"No, I am not; nor do I proclaim to be God either. I am just very knowledgeable in the Word from the Bible, and I know how to treat people and you will show me that same respect." Elaine replied. "Would you care for a pop?"
"Coke if you have one." Jenna replied.
"What do you say in order to receive a Coke, Jenna?" Elaine asked.
"Please." Jenna replied.
Elaine walked to the fridge and got three Cokes. She handed one to Lacey, one to Jenna, and she had one herself. "So tell me Jenna. What's going on with you that has brought you to the agency?" Elaine asked after taking a sip of her Coke.
Jenna took a sip of her Coke and then moved over on the couch next to Elaine. She whispered something into her ear. "You did not." Elaine asked disbelieving the young girl.
"I did. I'm not lying to you now. Honestly." the young girl said.
Lacey looked up at Elaine and Elaine looked at Lacey. "When did it happen?" Elaine asked.
"A month ago." Jenna replied.
"I'm so sorry that happened to you, Jenna." Elaine said. "I'm going to give you a hug now, okay?"
"Okay," Jenna said and then started to cry. Lacey looked at Elaine and she nodded her head without giving her any clues. Lacey knew what that meant without even saying a word.
"We can help you to get through this okay, Jenna?" Elaine asked.
"Yes, I understand. I'm sorry I was mean earlier. I just don't like being told what to do." Jenna said.
"It's okay, we understand." Elaine replied holding Jenna in her arms.
Elaine pulled out her Bible and started to read scriptures to Jenna as she was holding onto her trying to help her to calm down. Elaine's disarming attitude calmed Jenna down and she started to play with Elaine's hair.
"How old are you, Jenna?" Elaine asked.
"Ten" Jenna replied.
Lacey looked at Elaine and Elaine started to get tears in her eyes and Lacey shook her head at her telling her not to let it out.
"I'm so sorry this happened to you, Jenna." Elaine said trying to hold back her tears.
After the counseling session was over with and Lacey and Jenna had left, Elaine went into her bedroom, closed the door, opened the bathroom door and said, "You can come out now," Elaine fell onto the bed and started to cry and cry.
Micky walked out of the bathroom and asked her, "What's wrong?"
"Just hold me, Micky. Please no questions. Just hold me." Elaine cried out to him lifting up her arms.
"Okay," Micky said walking over to her sitting down beside her and giving her a hug. He knew it must have been a bad session, but nothing was ever discussed.
~~~~~~
That evening, Elaine's phone started to ring. She reached across the bed and picked it up, "Hello."
"Elaine, this is Chelsea. Lacey told me what happened. I am so sorry. I know it was very hard on you, I'm sure."
"God will provide for the little one and he will bring justice, Chelsea." Elaine replied wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Well Lacey wants you to call her tonight if you need anything, okay? She's having a hard time dealing with this as well." Chelsea said.
"Thanks, Chelsea. I've got Lacey's number if I need it." Elaine replied.
"Try to think of the positive attitude you created in this young girl's heart today, Elaine. You made a difference to her just letting her know that we care about her."
"I know, Chelsea. I'm going back to sleep now, okay?" Elaine asked.
"Okay darlin'. You try to rest and have a good night. Thanks again for everything as well. Lacey told me that she talked about you the entire way back to the agency about what a God's angel you were."
"That's nice," Elaine said covering up with her blanket. "Goodnight."
"Night, Elaine." Chelsea said hanging up the phone.
Elaine nestled herself into Micky's shoulder since he was sleeping. She did not want to be alone that night. She needed her friend and Micky was her best friend again.
