A week had passed and like Mike had predicted Davy was worn out. He proved just how much after they had practiced. Peter pulled off his bass and glanced at Davy.
He smiled at his friend who was sleeping right there on the bandstand. A tambourine was still in his hand.
"Davy, wake up." Peter said giving him a gentle shake.
"Hey mate." Davy yawned as he sat up. He ran a hand through his hair.
"Why don't you go take a nap?" Peter suggested.
"Can't. I have no time."
"No time for you." Micky sang as he walked by.
"Very funny." Davy groaned.
"Thank you. I'm here from 6pm to 8pm. First comedy act is free. After that it's $3.50." Micky flashed a goofy grin.
"I'll see you guys later." Davy rolled his eyes.
"BYE!"
"Thanks Mick, I'm wide awake now!" Davy quipped.
"That's what I'm here for!" Micky grinned.
"Oh Romeo! Romeo!...Huh Romeo?" a girl called sounding confused.
"Davy!" another girl hissed.
"Huh...oh um. What's my line?" Davy asked as he blinked a couple of times.
"Let's take five everybody." the director sighed.
One of the extras walked by. "Man kid you look beat!"
"I am! I'm in a band and doing all these gigs. Plus this play. It's just taken toll on me."
"I know a way to keep you up." the man smiled.
"What? A twin?" Davy chuckled.
"No." the man handed Davy a bottle of pills.
"What are these?"
"Pills. You know, they'll help you stay awake." the man smiled.
"I don't take drugs mate. Sorry." Davy handed the pills back.
"You can get these right over the counter. They must not be to dangerous if you can get them at a store right?" the man asked handing the bottle back to Davy.
"I don't know." Davy said nervously.
"Come on. You take one and you get all this new energy. Look just hang on to them. Just in case you change your mind. My name's Bill by the way." the man held his hand out.
"Davy. And you're wasting your time because I won't be needing these." Davy shook Bill's hand.
"As tired as you are I'll give you until tomorrow night. Then you'll be back by next week for more." Bill smiled.
