"Comfy?" a cold voice asked.
"Who are you?" Davy demanded.
A light snapped on.
"Don't you remember?" a woman asked.
"You look familar." Davy admitted.
"Maybe this will make you remember." the woman said. Then began to sing.
"Fern!" Davy cried.
"Now you remember me."
"How could I forget you? Your mum pretended she could read tea leaves so she could trick me into performing that talent show with you!"
The back of Davy's head began to throb.
"And your friends ruined our act!" Fern yelled.
"We won!" Davy cried.
"Yes, and you refused to do anymore shows with me! You said you were a Monkee and you couldn't hurt your friends like that! But you had no problem hurting me!" Fern yelled.
"I'm sorry!" Davy said.
"I tried to do my own act. But everyone kept telling Mother I needed a partner. I never wanted to be in those talent shows. I hate dancing and singing. But Mother wouldn't hear of it. We...got in a huge fight about it and she left. The things she said before she left." Fern's eyes filled with tears.
"Fern, I'm sorry. But you and your mum can still work it out!" Davy cried.
"Oh we will. Because I'm going to be in that talent show. And you're going to be my partner." Fern smiled.
"What?! You're crazy! I'm not being in any talent show with you!" Davy exclaimed.
"Yes you will! Don't you see. Mother will be so happy that I'm performing again. And with you as my partner. We'll win."
She's crazy. Davy thought with a shiver.
"Mother's going to be proud of me. You'll see." Fern smiled.
"How'd you get me here anyway?" Davy asked.
"Smacked you in the back of the head with a flashlight."
"Untie me right now! I'm not performing with you! Not now! Not ever!" Davy yelled.
"What if I gave you an offer you couldn't refuse?" Fern asked sweetly.
"What?" Davy demanded.
"Either you perform with me. Or I'll shoot you." Fern pulled out a gun.
Davy swallowed hard. "Where do we sign up?" he let out a nervous laugh.
