WARNING: Character death

Something came over Mike, he wouldn't move. The pick up truck hit him head on. There followed a silence.

Mike was dead. The other three were heart-broken, Davy was extremely so.

Three days later Micky came in with the mail.

Micky: The insurance check came.

Peter: I guess this really is it.

They looked over at Davy. He looked guilty.

Peter: what's wrong?

Davy: It's all my fault.

Micky: How? You weren't driving the pick up.

Davy: (with a lump in his throat) No, but the day he died, I knew we were strapped for cash. So I found the monkey's Paw we had. I made a wish...

Micky: Go on.

Davy: I wished for lots of money. (the tears sprang from Davy's eyes.) I'm sorry.

Micky: I told you that thing was evil.

Peter: Take heed in what you wish for.

The night after the memorial service, it had been raining hard the wind was blowing. Davy sat and looked around. He saw Mike's old guitar in the corner, never to be played again. Then Davy got an idea, he got to his feet and got the monkey's paw. In spite of what Micky told him.

Davy: Oh Mike I wish you would come back to us.

Micky and Peter walked in and found him with it.

Micky: What did you do?

Davy: You'll like this, I wished for Mike to come back.

Peter: are you crazy?!!

Then there came three soft knocks on the door

Micky: (scared) Wish him away.

Davy: No!

Peter: Do it.

Three more knocks came

Davy: He's our friend. Are you afraid of our friend?

Peter: He was our friend. That is not Michael. Don't let him in.

Davy ran to the door.

Micky: Wish him away.

The knocks became a heavy pounding. They ran after him, Davy had dropped the paw.

Peter: For land's sake, wish him away!!

Micky noticed the paw on the floor and picked it up.

Davy struggled with the door.

Davy: I can't get the door open. Help me!

When Micky was done making his wish. The knocking stopped, but still echoed in the pad. Davy flung the door open, a sad and dissappointed wind rushed in. Davy looked out at the deserted street. The gate that had been locked earlier, now swung to and fro.
