Chapter 2

The last two days and nights were spent together – during the day they would sleep, at night they would have dinner together and Sara would go to work with him while he did paperwork. On Sunday, they went to church, and Gil gave his life to Christ.

“Thanks Sara for taking me to church. I thank God for you.” He hugged her tightly.

“I thank God for you too, and you’re welcome. I’m glad that you are saved.”

On the last night, they lay in Sara’s bed at the hotel, caressing each other and kissing.

“I’m going to miss you Sara.”

“Me too. When do you want me to come out again?”

“Can you come out in a couple weeks?”

“No, but I can come out in a month. I have a weekend then. How about you?”

“I can set my own hours so that’s fine with me. I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ll call you every night.”

“We can switch every other night, how’s that?”

“Good. Gil, how long can we keep up the long distance romance?”

“Until we get married.”

“When do you want to marry?”

“Anytime is good with me my dear.”

“How about in two months?”

“That’s not too soon for you is it?”

“No. I’ll just set it up with the Major at my corp and we will get the blood tests and marriage license.”

“Wonderful. We will invite everyone from work, and you can invite your co-workers as well.”

“Great!”

“Sara, I didn’t ask you formally though.”

“Oh Griss, it’s okay. We were never traditional.”

“That’s true.”

They turned out the lights and went to sleep.

The next morning was Sara’s flight back to San Francisco. They stood at the gate kissing and hugging.

“I’m going to miss you Griss.”

“I’m going to miss you too.”

“I’ll call you tonight.”

“Okay, I work, so be sure to call me around 9 when the rates go down.”

“Okay. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

They kissed one last time and Sara ran to where she had to catch the plane.

She called him at nine.

“Grissom.”

“Hi honey.”

“Hi Sara. How was your flight?”

“It was lonely. I miss you.”

“I miss you too.”

“I can’t wait until next month!”

“Me neither. What do you want to do?”

“We can just hang out for all I care. Just as long as I’m with you, that’s all that matters.”

“You got that right.”

“I hope that I make you happy.”

“Oh, beyond words babe.”

They talked for a few more minutes then Sara wanted to get ready for work.

“Honey, I need to go get ready for work. I have to tell Cliff and everyone else the good news!”

“Okay baby. I have to go to work too. I’ll call you tomorrow night, okay?”

“Okay love. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

They hung up the phone.

A month passed and Sara drove her Pontiac Firebird to Vegas. Grissom was waiting for her on his front porch as she pulled into the driveway.

She got out of the car and ran to his warm, loving embrace. “Gil I missed you so much!”

“I missed you too baby. I love your car.”

“Thanks honey. It’s a 1976, I bought it a couple months ago.”

“My Audi Fox is nothing compared to yours.”

“Your car is nice. I just like cars that are sporty.”

“You were always like that kitten.”

They went inside and Grissom had dinner ready for her.

“Oh Griss, I smell vegetable lasagna. How did you know it was my favorite?”

“I didn’t, but now I do.” This was to be perfect for his evening.

He pulled out a Queen Anne chair for her and she sat. He then went to the refrigerator and pulled out some sparkling grape juice.

“This is to go along with the lasagna.” He poured her a champagne glass worth.

“You are so special Gil.”

“You are too. You are extra special in fact.”

They sat, ate and drank in silence. After Grissom cleared the plates and dishes and washed them, he stood beside her.

“Sara I have a surprise for you.”

He got on one knee and pulled a red velvet box out of his pocket.

“Sara Marie Sidle, will you marry me?”

“Yes of course!”

He opened the box to reveal a 3/4-carat diamond white gold band.

“Oh Griss, this is beautiful! Thank you.” Sara kissed him, tears streaming down her cheek.

“No, thank you. You have made my life complete. I love you so much, I can’t even describe it.”

“I love you that much too. You have completed my life too.”

They went into the living room and Grissom put on Always and Forever by Heatwave. They slow danced to the song and Grissom was singing to her.

Always and forever
Each moment with you
Is just like a dream to me
That somehow came true
And I know tomorrow
Will still be the same
Cause we've got a life of love
That won't ever change

And ev'ry day
Love me your own special way
Melt all my heart away with a smile
Take time to tell me you really care
And we'll share tomorrow together
I'll always love you

There'll always be sunshine
When I look at you
Something I can't explain
Just the things that you do
And if you get lonely, phone me and take a second
To give to me the magic you make

And ev'ry day love me your own special way
Melt all my heart away with a smile
Take time to tell me you really care
And we'll share tomorrow together
I'll always love you

“Griss, I didn’t know you liked modern music.”

“I like some stuff. Pink Floyd is still modern you know. This song also is how I feel about you, so I bought the 8-track.”

Gil put in an 8-track of classical, which they danced to, and then went to bed.

The next morning, they awoke and ate breakfast. After that they went to a local amusement park and rode the rides. Grissom’s favorite rides are roller coasters so they indulged in those the most.

Sunday morning they went to church, and then it was time for Sara to leave so she could go to work that night.

“Sara, I can come out to see you this time.”

“Okay. I have a weekend coming up in two weeks. We need to take the blood tests and I already have sent for the marriage certificate, so that should arrive any time now.”

“Okay, I’ll see you then. I’ll call you about 9?”

“Yes. I love you Gilbert Alexander Grissom.”

“I love you too, Sara Marie Sidle.”

“Soon to be Grissom.” Sara grinned her gap-toothed smile.

“You bet!”

They kissed goodbye and Sara got in her car.

At nine, Grissom called.

“Sidle.”

“Hey kitten.”

“Hi cuddle bug.”

“How was your trip?”

“Uneventful. I miss you.”

“I miss you too. We will be together in two weeks.”

“That we will.”

“Sara, who do you want to walk you down the aisle since your father passed away?”

“I’d like Jim to. He was always like a father to me.”

“Okay. Would you like anyone to be a maid or matron of honor?”

“Sofia. I always favored her over Catherine. How about you? Who do you want as your best man?”

“Warrick.”

“Great. Anyone to take photos?”

“How about Nick? Hey, are you going to try to get in touch with Greg? He’s a CSI in L.A. I can probably get in touch with him.”

“Sure, that would be great!”

“Well, Sara my love, I have to get ready for work. Call me tomorrow night at nine.”

“Okay honey. I love you.”

“I love you more.”

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”
