Chapter 19

Mike, Peter and Davy nervously looked at the clock above Maggie's desk as they waited for Micky to arrive. It was almost noon. Maggie was also worried about Micky, but for much different reasons.

"Where are you Micky?" Mike muttered in Hebrew under his breath.

If they missed out on this contract, Mike thought to himself, even Elizabeth wouldn't be able to save Micky from his wrath.

"I've instructed the building operator to put Micky through in case he's lost my number." Maggie told the three Monkees.

"Thank you, Miss McDonald." Davy replied.

Just then the phone rang and Maggie picked it up.

"Hello, Ritzy Records, Maggie speaking." She said. "Yes...what? Oh no! When did this happen? Yes, thank you." She slowly put the phone back on its receiver.

"What happened?" Peter asked, "Is is about Micky?"

"There was some sort of explosion at the Blazin' Hot Music Store." Maggie replied, getting off her chair, "I have to tell Miss Ritz."

She went over to Jynger's office door, knocked, and went inside.

"Madam?" Maggie asked, "I just got a phone call..."

But Jynger had her back to Maggie and was staring at a part of the window pane which was showing the destruction of the music store. It was now showing two paramedics helping a dazed Estella sit up.

"I know." Jynger said, "It was that angel Elizabeth that did this. Now look at this..." Jynger waved her hand and the scene changed to the side door lobby. It showed Elizabeth, Micky and Darlene standing near the elevators.

"They're here!" Maggie gasped.

Jynger turned to her fellow witch.

"Bring the other three in here quickly and do whatever you can to stop or delay that angel from getting here. At least the Master will get three souls today."

"At once, Madam." Maggie replied, heading back toward the door.

Downstairs, Elizabeth turned to Darlene. "I want you to stay here, Darlene. You should be safe."

"I want to help, Elizabeth." Darlene protested, "I'm a part of this now."

"Yes, but this is going to be worse than the fight with Estella." The angel replied. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"I can take care of myself." Darlene retorted.

"You promised you'd stay out of the way." Elizabeth said.

While this argument was going on, Micky noticed that the elevator indicator was showing a car was coming down-and that the ground- floor doors were glowing red! Just as the elevator chimed, Micky pushed Elizabeth and Darlene to the floor.

"Get down!" He shouted.

As soon as the trio hit the floor, the elevator doors opened and a ball of fire shot out of the elevator car! Micky and Darlene would've been incinerated if the fire had hit them.

Elizabeth looked up and sent a cloud of white smoke into the car, extinguishing any remaining fire. The three got to their feet.

"Thank you Micky." Darlene said.

"Yes, thank you Micky." Elizabeth said. "It looks like Jynger knows we're here."

Thirteen floors up, Mike, Peter and Davy were quickly issued into Jynger's office by Maggie, who just as quickly left the office and shut the door. The clock on the side wall chimed twelve.

"Miss McDonald seems to be in a bit of a hurry." Davy remarked.

"Yes, a few things have come up that need her immediate attention." Jynger replied with a smile. "Welcome back, I'm glad you're here. Have a seat."

"Thank you, Miss Ritz." Mike said, sitting down, "We really don't know where Micky is right now, but he was supposed to meet someone at your Blazin' Hot store and then come here."

"But Miss McDonald just told us about an explosion at the store." Peter added, "We just hope he wasn't there when it happened."

"I'm sure he wasn't." Jynger replied, "He's probably just caught in traffic." She indicated a large rolled up piece of paper on her desk, next to an old-fashioned ink pot and feathers. "Here is the contract." She said, unrolling the paper. It stayed flat by itself. At the bottom were the signatures of Jynger and the Monkees' new `manager' D. Scratch. "On it is everything we talked about last night." She took a feather, dipped the tip in ink and handed it to Mike.

"Please sign at the bottom."
