Chapter 1

It was a quiet afternoon about a week before Halloween at the Monkees' pad. Micky and Davy were watching TV. Peter was decorating the pad with paper ghosts and Mike was tuning his guitar. They were just doing ordinary things, but they were no longer just ordinary people. About six months ago, the four musicians found a young woman named Elizabeth lying unconscious on the beach outside their beach house. It turned out she was an angel from God and soon she had them on an adventure they still had trouble believing had happened. But her presence had changed them.

No longer did they just go through life aimlessly, going from one gig to another, they had discovered the love of the Lord. Now, they tried to live their lives as Jesus had with love for their fellow man. The change was noticed by some of their friends and acquaintances who wondered, even laughed at, their sudden out-of- character ways. But the Monkees did not care.

In fact they laughed at the hypocrisy that some of them showed. There were other, less noticeable changes to them as well. As a gift, Elizabeth gave them the ability to speak Hebrew. During the last six months, there had been some bad times, times when they wondered if God was with them, but Elizabeth, now allowed by God to stay in Los Angeles, came around often to give encouragement and advice.

Right now, they had just finished rehearsing and were taking a break. Suddenly, Mike tuned a guitar string a little too tight and it snapped, cutting his hand. He let out a curse.

"Don't take the Lord's name in vain, Mike." Peter told him mildly.

"I doubt the Lord ever cut his hand on a guitar string," Mike snarled.

"No, he was just crucified." Davy replied looking over from the TV.

"What?" Mike asked

"Jesus suffered worse than a cut hand, but didn't curse his tormentors." Davy said, "Instead, he begged his father to forgive them."

Mike let out a sigh as he went over to the sink to wash his hand. "I know, we were there, remember?"

The others nodded their heads. Mike was referring to the time when Elizabeth took them back in time to stop Dr. Chronos from preventing Jesus from being crucified. They had succeeded in keeping things on track and Elizabeth was allowed to stay in the area to help those in need.

"That reminds me of our favorite angel," Peter said, "I haven't seen her in several weeks."

Micky sighed. "Neither have I."

Davy looked sadly over at his friend. He and the others knew Micky and Elizabeth loved each other very much, but because of what Elizabeth was, they would never be able to have a relationship like others.

"Elizabeth has her assignments, Mick." Davy finally said, "She told us she could be gone for long periods of time."

Micky nodded his head.

"You're right, Davy." Micky replied, "Even though she's an angel, I still worry about her."

"We all do." Mike said, joining him and Davy. His hand was now bandaged.

"That's sweet of you guys." A voice said quietly a few feet away.

The Monkees spun around. They knew that voice!

"Elizabeth?!" Micky exclaimed.

"Right here, Micky!" Elizabeth replied as she slowly appeared in front of him. It was still a little jarring for her friends to see her appear at once, so she always let them know she was there first.

A few seconds later, Elizabeth was totally formed in front of them.

She still had short blond hair and was wearing jeans and a blue top. She gave them a big smile.

"Peace be with you." She said.

"And also with you." The Monkees replied. This greeting was a tradition Elizabeth started whenever she visited the pad.

Then one by one, the Monkees gave Elizabeth a hug. Micky waited until last so he could give her a big hug and kiss.

She tousled his curly hair.

"So how are things going?" She asked the group as they all sat down in the living room. Micky and the angel sat together and held hands.

"Oh, fine, Elizabeth." Mike said, "We've been working pretty steady."

"Did a benefit for the St. Paul's church youth group." Peter added.

"Then we had an audition for The Fine Music Company." Davy said.

"But we didn't get a contract." Micky added, a little angrily. "We gave it our all that night, and the exec didn't even thank us for coming."

The angel gave Micky a little smile. "You didn't call fire and brimstone down on him did you?"

"No, but..." Micky trailed off. He had been angry over their rejection and said a few things he should not have to his friends later.

Mike looked over at the drummer. "Micky, we said it was ok, we forgive you for what you said."

"I know, Mike, it's just that I feel like I'm relapsing at times. Not acting the way I'm supposed to."

"You're human, Micky." Elizabeth told him gently. "The Lord doesn't expect you to be perfect, but you must continue to try to do better always."

Micky gave the angel a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, Elizabeth."

"So this was an audition for a record contract?" She asked the others.

"Yeah, it could've been a ticket out of the club circuit." Mike said. "We really prayed to get the contract, but ended up with nothing."

"The Lord heard your prayers, my friends, and I know it can be hard when it seems he's not listening, but he is and he will take care of you all." Elizabeth said firmly.

The Monkees took heart at the angel's encouragement.
