"Hey guys, I want you to meet a new friend. This is Julie Morris," Peter said with excitement.
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Mike," Mike said as he offered a handshake. Micky and Davy followed with their introductions.
"It's nice to meet all of you," Julie said shyly.
"Wait right here, I'm going to go talk to the guys," Peter told her. Peter then motioned the guys to his room so he could talk to them.
"Well, what do you guys think of her?" Peter asked anxiously.
"She's nice. Kind of young for you though," Micky said.
"Uh oh, Peter's got that `I need a favor' look in his eyes again," Davy warned.
"Whatcha want shotgun?' Mike asked.
"I'm not going to ask her to go out for you. You're a big boy, Peter." Davy said.
"Julie needs our help. She feels really bad about herself. She wants to go to her senior prom, but she's clumsy and can't dance. She also thinks she's ugly," Peter said, "and she doesn't know how to act around a boy either."
"The senior prom, you've got to be kidding me. She looks like she`s no more than fourteen," Mike said as he thought about their visitor's shapeless frame and braided pigtails.
"Well, if she says she's a senior then I believe her," Peter stated confidently.
"So what do you want us to do?" Micky asked.
"Teach her to dance, help her be graceful, make her feel pretty. We're guys, we can give her the inside scoop on what a guy expects out of a lady," Peter told them.
"You know Pete, that's the most intelligent thought I think you've ever had," Micky commented.
"Thank you Micky," Peter said.
"Ok, we'll do this, but don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out," Mike said.
"Thank you so much. It will work fine. I just know it will. I have to go tell Julie," Peter said overjoyed.
"Julie, they said they'd help," Peter told her.
"That's great!" She said, throwing her arms around Peter, "Thank you so much. I'm tired of being an outcast."
"You're not to me," Peter said as he returned the embrace.
"Ok private Jules we'll start bright and early with calisthenics. Then we'll do two miles up and down the beach. I wanna hear a `yes sir' private!" Micky barked in a sergeant's voice.
"Um Micky, she has school and this isn't the military," Peter said.
"Um, my mistake, at ease," Micky said with a he-he type of laugh.
Julie just giggled at the crazy antics.
"Micky's right though, it will take some discipline to learn coordination. So, tell us what you know about being out with a boy," Mike asked Julie.
"Nothing, I haven't the slightest idea what to do. I've never been out with a boy," Julie replied.
"Oh brother," Mike said as he slapped his forehead in disbelief, "Ok, you come here tomorrow afternoon and we'll show you what to do."
"Ok, thanks guys, I really appreciate this," Julie said as she left.
"Fellas, we've really got our work cut out for us," Davy exclaimed.
"You ain't kiddin'" Mike agreed.
"She sure is nice though," Peter said.
"Yeah, too bad nice doesn't get you very far in life," Micky said.
"Maybe that's our problem. We're just too nice," Mike said.
"You can never be too nice. Being nice helped me meet a very nice girl," Peter replied.
