I Can’t Get Her Off Of My Mind
The next day Davy spent in the pad. How was he going to win Karen? Where could he find her? He sat on the porch looking out at the water. He just couldn’t get her off his mind. She was so beautiful; he had never seen eyes so green. But what made him want her the most was that she didn’t want him, a challenge.
“Hey man, what’s wrong.” Peter asked stepping out to the porch.
“Nothing, well I’m just ‘ung up on that girl Karen. I ‘ave to ‘have ‘er Petah. I ‘aven’t felt this way since Amanda.” Davy let of a sigh. Peter sat down beside him. “All I have is ‘er first name, so it’s not like I can look up ‘er number.”
“Davy there’s not much you can do. You’ll just have to keep going back to that club to see if she shows. But don’t give up, if it was meant to be it will happen. Don’t quit just before the miracle man.”

Mary was at work once again. It seemed like all she was doing lately was working. She sat behind the counter doing nothing. It was a beautiful Sunday day and she was stuck in here doing nothing. Sundays were always slows and she always ended up working them because no one else would.“Can you help me?” came a voice. Mary turned around. She didn’t even hear the bell ring on the door. Karen stood patiently on the other side.
“Yes what can I help you with?” Mary asked smiling,
“Hey aren’t you one of Davy Jones' friends?” Karen asked.
“I am and you're Karen right?”
“Yeah, you friend certainly doesn’t take a hint.” Karen laughed.
“No he’s very determined.”
“Well he’s kinda cute, if you like short guys.”
“He’s certainly hung up on you.” Mary said stepping out from behind the counter.
“He’s hung up on me? He seems like the type that would just forget me and move on to the next girl.”
“He is normally but there must be something to you.”
“Oh well...” Karen stopped short.
“He’s really a groovy guy. A little girl crazy but he’s a real sweetie. Plus I haven’t seen him like this since Amanda.” Mary stopped talking realizing what she has just brought up. She didn’t want to talk about Amanda’s death to a complete stranger.
“Then what happened to Amanda if he was so hung up on her?”
Mary took a gulp, she had no other choice but to tell her.“She died.”
Mary looked down at her feet. She really hadn’t thought about Amanda’s death in awhile.
“Oh.” Karen whispered. “Well, here is my number,” She scribbled it down on a piece of paper and handed it to Mary.
“Tell him to give me a call sometime.”
“Will do, so what was it that you wanted help with?”
“Oh I was wondering if you had any Broadway musical albums?”
Mary smiled.“Yeah right this way.”

Davy stood over the stove watching his water boil when Mary came crashing in. She now had a key which everyone agreed was a good idea.
“This piece of paper I have in my hand is the answer to your prayers Davy.”
“Finally you have written him some talent.” Micky laughed from the bandstand.
“No, but I was thinking of writing you some new jokes.” Mary shot back.
“I resent that!” Micky continued to clean his drums and kept quiet.
“Unless it’s Karen’s number I don’t want to see it.”
A huge smile spread over Mary’s face.
“It is isn’t it?” Davy reached for the piece of paper but Mary moved it above her head.
“What are you going to give me for it?” Davy was practically crawling up Mary’s arm.
“Okay, okay just stop or I’ll fall over.” She lowered her hand and gave him the piece of paper.
“Thank you luv.” Davy said heading over to the phone.
“Where is Peter?” Mary asked noticing Peter wasn’t in sight.
“Down on the beach.” Micky chirped up.
“Thanks.” Mary said leaving out the back door.
“Should I call ‘er now man?” Davy asked.
“Yeah, go ahead.” Davy picked up the phone and dialed the number. It rang once, twice, three times.
“Hello?” Came a breathless voice from the other end.
“’Ello is Karen ‘ome?”
“Yeah one minute.” There was some laughing then her voice came on the line.
“Hello?”
“’I,this is Davy, Davy Jones.”
“Oh Davy hi, how are you?” Karen asked.
“I’m fine, I was just wondering if maybe if you wanted to sometime to out with me?” Davy crossed his fingers as he waited for an answer.
“Yeah, I’d love to. How about tomorrow at 7? Is that groovy?”
“Yeah I can dig it, then until tomorrow.”
“Until tomorrow.” Davy hung up the phone, then let of a scream.
“I guess it was a yes?” Micky laughed.

Davy was beaming the whole next day. He walked around the pad singing love songs. It got to the point where everyone left just so they didn’t have to hear another love song from Davy. At 5:30 he showered, shaved and got dressed. He wore his stripped blue slacks with white Beatle boots and a red 8 button shirt. He looked at himself in the mirror and fidgeted with his hair.
“I guess it’s going to ‘ave to do.” Davy said to himself. He looked at his watch and found it was already 6:30. He walked into the living room and found that Micky, Mary and Peter had come back. They sat on the couch watching the TV.
“Oh look at our little boy, Peter he’s all grown up.” Mary said pretending to cry. She wiped at her fake tears. Davy ignored her and headed for the door.
“Remember don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Micky stuck his tongue out and rubbed his hands together. Davy rolled his eyes, grabbed the keys from the side table and headed out the door.

He arrived at Karen’s door right on time. He took a deep breath and knocked. He didn’t know why he was so nervous; he had done this hundreds of times. Karen answered the door and looked a bit shocked to see him. She had on a jean mini skirt and a Beatles t-shirt.
“Wow you look amazing.” Davy said.
“Awe thank you Davy but I’m not dressed. I’m running late, I just got in from work. My boss made me work till the last possible minute.” Davy followed Karen into her living room as she talked. It was all decked out in all the latest 60’s fashions.
“Just make yourself at home and I’ll go get dressed real quick.” Karen turned and left to get ready. Davy looked around the place, looking at all her knickknacks. He then headed over to her records and sifted through then. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Birds, Lovin’ Spoonful and about 20 old Broadway ones.
“I really like old musicals.” Davy jumped; he hadn’t heard Karen come down the stairs. He turned towards her, she had changed into a yellow mini skirt and a multi colored silk top.
“Most of the others are my roommates.” Davy smiled.
“Well let’s not keep the night waiting.”

The night went well. They ate at a quiet little restaurant. They got to find out a lot about each other. They then headed to the club where they had met, where they danced until the early hours of the morning. Davy then walked Karen home.
“Well goodnight.” Davy said once they reached her door.
“Hey would you like to come in for a minute?”
“I should really get home; I have an early band practice.” Davy really wanted to move slow with Karen because he really liked her.
“Oh okay then.” You could tell Karen was a little disappointed.
“Goodnight luv.” Davy gave Karen a kiss on her hand then turned and left.

Davy walked into the kitchen late the next morning. Mike and Peter sat at the table eating breakfast. Davy grabbed a bowl of cereal and joined them.
“How was your date Davy?” Peter asked noticing Davy’s goofy smile.
“Wonderful, I never though two people could ‘ave so much in common. She’s a great bird and she is feisty.” Stars formed in Davy’s eyes.
“How was your date Mike? How’s Kimmy?” Davy asked snapping out of it.
“Fine.” Mike grunted. Not another word was said as they finished their breakfast. They all went off to do their own thing when they were done.
