Chapter 9
"Ready?" Sarah asked as she and Davy walked on her porch.
"Yep."
"If you want to run away, I'd understand."
"Stop it. I want to meet your family." Davy smiled.
"Your opinion may change here in a few minutes." Sarah warned.
Davy squeezed her hand. "Relax. It'll be fine." But he wasn't
feeling so confident himself.
The two entered Sarah's house.
"Sarah, is this Davy?" her mother asked.
"Yes. Davy, this is my mother Nancy."
"Nice to meet you." Davy smiled politely.
"Oh what nice manners!" Nancy smiled.
"Thank you Mrs..."
"Oh please call me Nancy. This is my husband Henry."
"Hello." Davy said.
Sarah relaxed alittle bit. Her mom seemed to like Davy. Her father
however hadn't even cracked a hint of a smile.
"Shall we all sit down." Nancy smiled.
After everyone got their plates filled and drinks the four sat down.
"So, Sarah tells us your from England." Nancy said taking a sip of
wine.
"Yes ma'am. I lived in Manchester until I was fourteen. Then I moved
to London until I was about nineteen. That's when I moved here."
Davy smiled. He glanced at Henry feeling uneasy.
"So do you like it here?" Nancy asked.
"Oh yes. I love both countries. Everything's so much bigger here.
The weather's alot nicer here too." Davy let out a light laugh.
"What are your plans for the future?" Henry suddenly asked.
"I'm not sure. For now, I'm in a band with my three best mates."
"I meant with my daughter. Do you want to be tied down to a girl
who's blind?" Henry demanded.
"Daddy!" Sarah yelled.
"Henry, that is enough!" Nancy also yelled.
"No, it's not! Now look you seem like a nice kid Davy. But I'm not
going to allow my daughter to get hurt! Not again!" Henry yelled.
"What's he talking about?" Davy frowned.
"You mean you haven't told him?"
"No Dad. I didn't." Sarah sighed. She then turned to face Davy. "I
was with a guy before I went blind. When I started to lose my sight
he dumped me. He said he didn't want to be tied down."
"And that's what I want to know what your plans are?"
"With all due respect sir, I don't know what my plans are. I do know
that I would never hurt Sarah like that. I care for her very much."
Davy smiled.
"You're not being fair! You're taking all the angry feelings you
have left for Justin, out on Davy! I've moved on. Why can't you?!"
Sarah cried.
"I'm only trying to protect you!"
"Maybe I don't want to be protected!" Sarah cried.
"That is enough from both of you! You bring this boy home for us to
meet. And this how you two act. A fine example you two are setting."
Nancy said firmly.
"I'm just tired of you guys treating me like a little kid!" Sarah
cried.
"Honey, we just...we love you. You've been through so much. I just
don't want to see you get hurt again." Henry sighed.
"But I will get hurt again. It's part of life, and it's something I
want to be a part of. Please don't shelter me from life. Maybe we
can discuss things. You know, as a family." Sarah smiled.
"You're right." Henry smiled back. He then turned to Davy. "And
Davy, I owe you an apology."
"It's alright sir." Davy smiled back.
"See this is what I like. No yelling, just talking." Nancy smiled.
Sarah let out a huge relieved sigh.
"How was I?" Davy asked as the two walked outside.
"Pretty good. I like what you said about the future. You were quite
honest and I admire that."
"Well it's true. None of us knows what the future holds. I do know I
wouldn't hurt you." Davy squeezed her hand.
"I know you wouldn't. So are you free tomorrow?"
"Well I have a gig. Why don't you come and watch." Davy groaned
again.
Sarah gave a light laugh. "It's okay."
"I keep screwing up around you! Saying the wrong things, and such!"
Davy groaned.
"It's okay Davy. You're human. People make mistakes. So don't be so
hard on yourself. I would love to go to your gig." Sarah smiled.
"Thanks for not being mad. I didn't mean it...I mean..."
"Forget about it. You have a good heart, which is why I like you.
Well that and your adorable accent."
Davy grinned. "Yeah alot of people like me accent."
"It's so cute." Sarah laughed.
"I am cute, what can I say?" Davy also laughed. Then grew
serious. "I think you're the first girl I've ever been nervous
around. I really like you Sarah."
"Well I really like you too. I better be going in. I'll hear you
tomorrow."
Davy laughed. "Hear you tomorrow."
The boys had a wonderful gig. They performed 'The door into summer,
Daydream believer, For Pete's sake, and I'm a believer."
Sarah was amazed by how well they played. It was also during I'm a
believer when Davy looked at Sarah in the crowd and smiled.
I can relate to this song. he thought with another smile.
A few weeks had passed and Davy and Sarah had grown closer. One
night Sarah got some shocking news. She stayed up all night anxious
to tell Davy and his friends. Finally she couldn't take it anymore
and walked over to the pad. She used her cane to make her parents
not worry so much.
"Peter? Is Davy here?"
"Yes, but he's still asleep. It's only six in the morning." Peter
yawned.
"Oh sorry. I just...I have some news. I...the doctors think they can
bring back my sight."
Peter's eyes grew wide. "That's great!" he cried giving her a big
hug.
"Thanks! I'm...I'm so scared and happy." Sarah wiped a tear from her
eye.
"DAVY! MIKE! MICKY! DAVY! GUYS, GET UP!" Peter yelled.
"Ow!" Sarah laughed.
"Sorry." Peter also laughed.
"This better be important!" Micky grumbled.
Mike let out a big yawn, with Davy right behind him. His brown hair
was all over the place.
"Sarah? What's wrong?" Davy asked walking in front of her.
"Nothing's wrong. I maybe able to see again." Sarah said. A few
tears fell down her cheeks.
Davy gave her a big hug. "That's great!"
"Yeah...but...I don't know if I can set my hopes up. Only to have it
let me down again." she sniffed.
"Whatever happens, happens. And I'll be there. We'll all be there.
Right fellas?"
"Try and stop us." Micky smiled.
"Gee I love you guys." Sarah smiled back.
"When's the surgry?" Mike asked.
"Tuesday. I have to go in Monday night. I'm so scared, but it means
alot knowing you all will be there." her head was turned towards
Davy.
Micky smiled but wisely kept his mouth shut for once.
