"Come on Pete, let's go swimming. I've been dreaming of that beach ever since you sent me a postcard of it," Chris begged.
"Well there are beaches all along the California coast. I'm sure I didn't send you a postcard of this beach," Peter said, pointing to the small beach that was just down the path from the pad.
"Don't you ever slow down?" Micky asked Chris.
"Nope," Chris replied.
"Me neither. We should get along great," Micky exclaimed with a smile.
"Well I think swimming sounds like a wonderful idea. Did you kids remember to pack your bathing suits?" Ginny asked. Her three children all nodded their heads.
"Well let's go change. Maybe there will be some girls out today," Davy said.
Within fifteen minutes, everyone was changed into swimwear. Ginny, who was the last to get dressed, came out in a green two piece.
"Mom!" Peter yelled in shock, as he rushed to his mother and threw an overcoat around her shoulders.
"Peter, what's wrong with you? You're awfully jumpy," Ginny asked as she took the overcoat off and laid it across the couch.
"Well is that what you're wearing? I mean wouldn't you like to wear something else?" Peter asked as he rephrased his words to avoid sounding rude.
"Of course not, I bought this suit especially for this trip. I got to keep up with the west coast fashions you know," Ginny commented. She then turned to Nick, Ann, and Chris, "Come on, let's get down to the beach. See you boys in a minute," she said to the Monkees as her and her other three children headed out the door.
"Sorry about that guys. I told you she was different," Peter stated sadly with his head hanging down.
"That's ok Pete, you're mom is a nice lady. Plus, she actually looks good in that thing, and at her age too," Micky admitted.
"Yeah, but she's my mom. She is not supposed to look that way," Peter stated.
"Look what way?" Davy asked curiously.
"You know," Peter said then whispered hesitantly, "S-E-X-Y."
"Gee Pete, you can spell!" Micky teased, "Don't worry, you can tell people she's your older sister."
"Yeah, she sure could pass for it too," Davy said with a chuckle.
With that, Davy and Micky took off toward the beach as they raced each other. Only Mike and Peter remained in the pad. Mike stood there and silently stared at his blond headed friend. He really didn’t know what to say. In his personal opinion, he didn’t see a thing wrong with Ginny's swimming attire. In fact, she looked groovy. Mike found it amazing that someone could erase ten years from their appearance with just a smile and a little fashion sense. What scared Mike was the fact that Ginny appeared to look a little younger with every glance. Mike wasn't embarrassed by the fact that he was attracted to an older woman, he just wished that it didn’t have to be his best friend’s mom. Maybe he was just being some sort of sick person he thought. Mike was really torn.
Peter sat at the kitchen table and fumed over the situation. It really upset him that his friends couldn't see the seriousness of the situation. What was worse, Micky and Davy had laughed at the whole ordeal.
"They wouldn't think it was funny if their mothers went strutting about the beach in a bikini," Peter thought. His thoughts were interrupted though when Mike decided to break the silence.
"Come on Pete, don't be down," Mike urged as he placed a hand on Peter’s shoulder.
"I'm sorry man. I know my mom is eccentric, but I never expected her to come out here in a bikini," Peter explained.
"Oh your mom probably just thought everyone dressed that way out here. Don't make a big deal out of it," Mike said.
"How can you say that?" Peter shouted, as he got up from the table. "Would you appreciate it if your mother dressed like that?" Peter asked.
"Well no, but," Mike started.
"Would you like it if your mom acted your age instead of her age?" Peter asked once again.
"No," Mike answered honestly.
"You see. It's kind of humiliating," Peter said.
"You love your mother, right?" Mike asked.
"Of course I love my mother," Peter said.
"Then let it go. She's only here for two weeks. If you're not careful you'll waste a lot of time fretting over silly things. Then you'll regret the time you lost that could've been spent having a nice visit with your mom and siblings." Mike said.
Peter thought about that for a moment. He sure didn't want to upset his mother. Besides, he was quite lucky to get to see his mother. He knew that Davy hadn't seen his grandfather in a long, long time, and Mike hadn't seen his mother for almost as long.
"Come on, let's go to the beach and have a good time," Mike urged.
"Ok, by the way, thanks," Peter said with a smile.
"No problem old buddy," Mike replied.
