"Ya did it again!" Mike sighed as he impatiently tapped his finger against the steering wheel.
"It's your own fault for letting him navigate again." Davy spoke up from the back seat.
"Oh, and I suppose I should've let you navigate?" Mike smirked as he looked into the rear-view mirror. "You who gets on a plane from England, thinking that it's gonna take you to New York, and wind up in California!"
"Hey, it was lucky mistake!" Davy replied, then casually smiled, "How else would you have ever had the honor of meeting me?"
"That was an honor I could forego!" Mike grumbled.
Davy kicked the back of Mike's seat so hard that it sent the Texan sprawling over the steering wheel, causing the horn to go off. Davy and Peter fell into a fit of laughter. Mike turned around in his seat, looking like a panther getting ready to pounce. Micky held up his hand to stop all of the commotion as he intently studied the map.
"OK, says here the road to the right would take us to RT94."
"Which only takes us further away." Mike said.
"So where does the road to the left lead?" Peter asked.
"I don't know!" Micky said. "It's not listed on the map."
"Are you sure you're even looking in the right section?" Davy asked. "Of course I'm sure!" Micky irritably replied. "I make one navigational boo-boo, and it's held against me for life!"
"Then why isn't the road on the left on the map?" Davy asked.
Micky awkwardly folded the map and threw it into Davy's lap.
"OK, then, let's see you get us out of here."
Though Mike normally allowed Micky and Davy their spats, he decided now wasn't the time for it.
"Cool it, you two!" he said, turning in his seat so that he faced all three of his bandmates. "Fighting won't get us out of here. Now we know where the road to the right takes us. We can either go that route, or turn around and go back."
"Or we could go left and find out what's down that way." Peter eagerly smiled. Davy and Micky both added an excited nod in hopes for another adventure.
"Well, now, normally I would." Mike said as he settled back into the driver's seat. "But our job comes first. Adventure later. We'll turn around and go back the other way. Somebody grab the map and try to find us a way out of here." Both Davy and Micky grabbed the map at the same time, and glared at each other.
Before a tug-o'-war broke out - which would eventually result in ripping the map - Peter placed one hand over Davy's and another hand over Micky's. When they looked at him, he offered them a gentle smile. Davy and Micky looked at each other again - both waiting to see who would let go first. Peter rolled his eyes and pried both Davy's and Micky's hands off of the map, then took it himself.
Mike, who had been watching the exchange, simple shook his head and muttered, "You two!"
Micky smirked at Davy, then turned in his seat and faced forward. Davy also turned around, and rested his chin on the back of the seat. It took a second or two for the mind to adjust to what his eyes saw. For while it was right there before his eyes, his mind did not want to accept it.
"Hey, fellas? Where's the road?" he finally asked.
The other three Monkees looked at him, then followed his eyes.
"What in the..." Mike mumbled as his brows hooked together in confusion.
Micky sat on the door to get a better view, but no matter how high he sat, he would still only see the same as the others. Where a road once was, was now covered by thick foliage and tall trees with long, tangled vines handing from the large branches.
Peter glanced at the map, behind them, then back at the map again.
"A road should be there!" he finally concluded.
"Yes, Peter! A road should be there!" Mike replied in an impatient tone as he hopped out of the car. "How do you think we got here in the first place?"
"Mike, are you sure you didn't back in here while we were waiting for Micky to find us a way out?" Davy asked.
"I'd know if I backed in here or not. Just how dumb do you think I am?"
As soon as the question left his lips, he regretted it. He offered Davy a warning look before he could answer. Davy wisely kept his mouth shut as he also jumped out of the car, followed by Micky and Peter.
"This is ridiculous!" Mike exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air as he did so.
"I know we weren't sitting here that long!" Micky observed.
"Those are the fastest growing plants and trees that I've ever seen!" Peter said.
"Well, I guess this narrows down our choices!" Mike said. "We take the road to RT94."
"I'd still like to know what happened here!" Davy said with his hands resting on his hips.
"Not me!" Peter waved it all away with his hand. "Too spooky! Let's just go home."
"Nothing ever sounded so good as home!" Mike said.
Micky's scream made the three of them jump and turn around.
"The car!" came Micky's high-pitched squeal.
"It's gone!" the other three gasped.
