Chapter 14

The day of the convention arrived, and Monkee fans filled the the entire convention hall. Jan, Ginny and Sara hadn't let on that all four Monkees would be performing. They let the crowd think that it was only one, thus saving the big surprise. Though as the three women ran into their friends, it was very difficult to keep the secret.

Finally the moment of the concert arrived. The "Listen to the Band" tune started to play, and the crowd started cheering.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Micky, Davy, Peter and Mike - the Monkees!"

The whole room went wild with standing ovations and applause as the four men came out and took their places on the stage.

Even then three women who had arranged this whole affair were as excited as if they had not known themselves.

Ginny and Jan held hands and began to jump up and down with excitement. Then they huddled Sara and gave her a great big hug. Sara plugged an ear with her finger to block the sea of ecstatic screams that came from the audience. All four of the Monkees smiled at the overshowering of adoration from the crowd.

They sang all their biggest hits, some songs from HEAD, some of their stuff from the eighties, and the nineties. At one point of the concert, Davy did his bit of singing a ballad and chosing one girl out of the audience to sing it to. Without any thinking about it, he choose Ginny. As he sang the words to "Girl", he reached out and took Ginny's hand.

Ginny's face flushed cherry red, and she sank down in her seat.

"No! I don't want to go!" she feircly whispered. "Everyone's looking!"

Davy practically laughed in the middle of the song.

"Go on, Ginny, you're messing the poor guy up!" Jan laughed and pushed the girl forward.

Of course, Ginny was absolutely thrilled, though a million butterflies filled her stomach. When the song was finished, Ginny took her seat with tears in her eyes. She embraced her friends, Sara and Jan, who also had tears in their eyes.

After finding out that he was Jan's favorite, Mike pulled Jan up on stage and invited her to sing "Sweet Young Thing" with him. After the song was over, she pulled a green wool cap out of her pocket and placed it on Mike's head, then bravely gave him a kiss on the cheek. She turned to the crowd to give them a thumbs up. She returned to her seat as the crowd cheered at Jan's actions.

Sara was next. Micky had started to relay the story of how they all ended up at the convention together. Jan, Ginny, and Sara were hot with embarrassment as their escapade was revealed to the crowd, some of which were close friends of theirs. By the time Micky had finished, they all wanted to die.

"Well, we were really sore at them at first, but then they made us realize that we needed to get along. We came to please our fans, not to fufill an obligation. We kind of forgot that. So in a way, Sara did in fact do the right thing. Come on up Sara, so everyone can see you," Micky said.

As Sara took the stage, she received a standing ovation. Peter then urged Jan and Ginny to come back up on stage as well. Peter hugged them both and whispered "Thank you," to them. As the crowd cheered, they sang one last song. Then the Monkees, Jan, Ginny, and Sara all Monkee walked off the stage together as they headed for the foyer to set up for the "Meet and Greet" session.

The Monkees went on to do several more tours that year to celebrate their fortieth anniversary. From that moment on, the four men worked as one rather than ram heads over every little thing. Sure, arguements would break out every now and then, but this time none of them ran away from it all. Instead they learned that a good cup of coffee could solve a world of problems, and would often take breaks to sort out their ill feelings. When the tour finally came to an end, the four men shook hands in the airport lobby and parted ways, all anger and bitterness left behind.
