Chapter 6

"Looks like someone else is here!" Davy said to Ginny as she came back with an armload of towels.

Ginny panicked and looked around. They were all out of Monkees. Who else could show?

"The car over there!" Davy said, pointing to the vehicle when he saw Ginny looking around.

"Oh!" Ginny sighed in relief. "Belongs to a friend of ours."

"Is she involved in setting this up also?" Davy asked as he applied the towel to his wet clothing.

"No, Bob had nothing to do with this." she smiled.

"Oh! He!" Davy chuckled. "Bob and Hal. That's the most male names I've ever heard tied up in one of these things."

"Don't forget George." Ginny added.

Davy looked up in surprise. "George?"

"Oh, uh...you didn't know about him, did you?" Ginny asked.

Davy shook his head.

"Part of the maintenance crew." Ginny shrugged.

"The guy I heard earlier when I was in my dressing room?" Davy asked.

"That's right." Ginny said.

"Ah, ok!" Davy said, then looked to be deep in thought. "George, Hal and Bob. That's tugging at my memory."

Ginny rolled her eyes at her own stupidity, and tried to get Davy's mind off of the subject.

"Thanks for buying me dinner. It was very good." she said, then laughed and pointed at his clothes. "Sorry about the way I repaid you."

"I have a change in the dressing room." he said. "I'll go put them on now."

"I'll go with you!" she said, wrapping her arm around his and hoping to steer him clear of the other three.

As soon as she safely got Davy to his dressing room, she hurried down the hall and over to the stage where Mike was hooking up his guitar to the amplifier.

"Oh, sorry!" Mike said. "Jan's still in the basement with Hal, so I helped myself."

"That's fine, Mike!" Ginny replied. "Hope you don't mind if we go on a first name basis here."

"No, not at all...uh...Virginia?"

"Ginny'll do!" Ginny smiled.

"Yeah, I like Ginny better. Virginia's too old even for my generation." Mike teased.

"I was named after my grandmother." Ginny said.

"Then I'd better keep my mouth shut." Mike said, and went back to tuning the guitar. Ginny laughed.

"Don't worry. You were right. She's old enough to be your mother if that's any consolation."

"Not too many folks out there that are old enough to be my mother are even around," Mike said with a smile and a wink.

Ginny smiled back. She found it hard to believe that this kind gentleman had at one time slammed his fist through a wall because he was angry. It didn't dawn on her before just how much these guys had probably changed in forty years. She really didn't know what her, Jan, and Sara had gotten themselves into. How would the guys really react whenever they finally did run into each other, and would they feel as if they had been tricked into coming? Ginny sure didn't feel right about the whole situation. Whoever had sent out the second round of invitations sure didn't consider the Monkees' feelings in doing so. Did they really think once the guys figured it out all would be forgiven and forgotten? Ginny desperately wanted to end the whole charade, but fear was holding her back.
