Micky stopped in his tracks right in the middle of the banquet room.
"What's going on?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" Sara asked, looking completely innocent.
"I mean for the very few times that I have seen Jan and Ginny, all of you have been acting very jittery. Is it me?"
"No....Yes!"
"No? Yes? What is it?" Micky asked.
"Jan and Ginny are very nervous around celebs. That's why you've hardly seen them." Sara said.
"There's no reason for them to be nervous. I'll go tell them."
"No!" Sara shouted, grabbing his arm before he could walk away. "Don't you remember? Ginny's gone and Jan's helping the maintenance man."
"Well all right, but later on I'd like to get together with you three and discuss it."
"Right! Later! No problem." Sara smiled. "Let's go take a look around town now, all right?"
"OK!" Micky smiled.
He started heading for the front door but noticed Sara was going the opposite way.
"I thought we were going to sight seeing." Micky said.
"Let's take the shortcut out the back way."
"I parked back there. It leads away from town."
"Oh!" Sara said. "Well the exercises will do us both good."
"Are you saying I'm a little big in the middle?" Micky said jokingly. This drew a slight giggle out of Sara.
"Of course not, Micky. I just thought this would be a good way to go," Sara said.
"Ok, you're the boss," Micky said with a shrug of his shoulders. He followed Sara out to her car, which was parked in the front. Just as Micky was about to get in Sara's car, Ginny and Davy pulled into the parking lot. Micky squinted as the sun glared on the windows of Ginny's SUV.
"Hey, you know what? Ginny's friend, Tom, kinda looks like good old Dave Jones," Micky said with a grin. Sara became petrified. She had to think of something quick.
"Oh come on, there's only one Davy Jones. Though Tom does get that comment a lot. We had better go before the capitol building closes for the day," Sara said, coaxing him into the car.
****As Ginny pulled into the parking lot, she spotted Micky right away. Obviously, Davy hadn't seen him from far away, because he said nothing. As they got closer, Sara and Micky became more visible. Suddenly, Ginny slammed on the brakes. The sudden motion jarred the bottle of pop Davy was drinking from as soda flooded his shirt and pants.
"What the...?" Davy asked as he looked down at the mess in the seat.
"I'm so sorry! I thought I saw something and didn't want to hit it," Ginny apologized.
"I'm a bloody mess," Davy said as he dabbed his shirt and pants with a handkerchief. Lucky for Ginny, Sara and Micky had already driven off before Davy looked up again.
"You stay here and I'll get you some towels," Ginny said as she left the car.
"Not like I'm going anywhere," Davy mumbled.
"Miss, are you ok?" Mike asked as Jan stared up in silence.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry about that. My name is Jan, Jan Barnett. Virginia Boone and Sara Martin are not here right now. They are the other coordinators of this Monkees Convention," Jan said as calmly as she could.
"Well, I declined the first invitation. I figured I could pass the buck and let one of the other guys do it. You can't imagine how shocked I was when I saw the letter saying that the other three had declined as well. Davy is usually a sucker for these events, not there is anything wrong with these events, I'm sure they are very nice," Mike corrected himself when he saw Jan's eyes water.
"Well, we are certainly glad to have you," Jan said, then thought to herself 'glad to have you if I didn't have to do this hide and seek bit for the next couple of days'. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye she saw Ginny running to the front door. Luckily, Davy was still in the car.
"Hi Ginny! Did you have a nice dinner with Tom? By the way, I want you to meet Michael Nesmith. He's our host for the convention," Jan said and gave Ginny a "go figure" look.
"Hello Mr. Nesmith. It is a pleasure to meet you. I hate to be rude, but I have to get some towels for Tom. We had an accident with some soda," Ginny said.
"Not at all. I suppose I could talk to you later," Mike said.
"Where is Hal?" Ginny asked.
"In the basement, I have to go down there now," Jan whispered the last part.
"All right! I have to get these back to Tom." Ginny said, holding up the towels then rushing out the door.
