Meanwhile back at the pad, something strange began to happen to 'Hillary;' her memory was kicking in...
"Arthur." 'Hillary' spoke out.
"What did you say?" Mike asked.
"Oh nothing. Can we go for a walk?" 'Hillary' asked in an almost depressed voice.
"Sure. Just let me tell the fellas that we're going out." Mike answered.
"No! Just you and me. Every time I turn around the other three guys are here with us. I really just need to talk to you right now. It's kind of important."
"Sure Beth." Mike took Beth's hand and the two of them walked out to the terrace that leads down to the beach. "What's the matter babe?"
"I...I remember who I am." 'Hillary' said. Mike just kind of sat there in shock. "I've known all along who I am."
"Then why did ya pretend to not know?" Came Mike's angry voice.
"Because you've no idea what it's like to be me! My mother always makes me play the piano. I hate the piano!" Was her response in defense.
"Are you sure that it is the piano you hate or is it more that your mom won't give you a chance to be yoruself?" Mike questioned.
"I guess it's not really the piano. I mean I love the music; and I love how I can just sit down and play any song I want to. But I do not like being forced to do this. I want to be a doctor." Hillary answered.
"Then why don't you just tell your mom how you really feel?" Mike said, still with quite an upset voice. "Nobody should be forced to be something they don't wanna be. My mother wanted me to be an inventor like herself; but I wanted to do music. She protested my music playing for a long time until I stood up to her one day. I told her that I was not going to let my dream of being in a group spoil anything." Mike said.
"What was her response?" Hillary asked.
"She didn't say anything to me 'cuz I walked out before she got a chance. I'd taken my guitar and a few other things and left. I've not talked to her since then. My point is ya can't let your mom stop you from being what you want to be." Mike's persistant voice said.
"I can if she pays for my education." Hillary said still a little upset.
"I hate this! You should *not* be treated this way! It's just not right." Mike said a very angry voice. There was silence between the two of them for a minute. "I have an idea; but only if you want to do this." Mike said with somewhat of a smile on his face.
"What's that?" Hillary said, also with a smile on her face.
"Let's go get married!" Mike said.
Hillary's mouth just kind of dropped open. "What...?! Mike are you serious...?!"
"No he's not!" came another voice behind them. It was Micky's voice now upset over what he'd heard.
"How much did you overhear?" Mike said in a very firm voice.
"Enough of your conversation to tell you that if you do it, you'll be sorry. How could you lie and take advantage of us like that Hillary?" Micky asked angrily.
"How did you know my name?" Hillary snapped.
"It's all over the newspapers. You are being looked for my dear and you are worth money. You are going to be coming with me or..."
Mike got right up into Micky's face ready to fight with him so Micky just folded his arms in anger and backed down from what he was going to say.
"Mike you are so stupid! Do you know what's gonna happen if you marry her? You'll kill the group! And we worked to get *this* far with each other!" Micky said even angrier than before.
"Look, you are not my boss! I walked out on my mother when I wanted to be a musician...and I will walk out on the three of you if you do not support me!" Mike's angry voice said.
"You don't even know this girl! You only met her once and you just can't marry someone you've only met once!" Micky protested.
"Boys, please stop fighting!" The two Monkees just looked at each other with angry eyes. "Mike?" Mike looked at her. "If you are serious about getting married, then let's do it!" Hillary spoke with a very serious look.
Mike looked into Micky's eyes and answered her with a cocky look at Micky. "Let's go babe! I'll get my stuff!" Mike took Hillary's hand and the two of them walked back into the house. Mike grabbed his keys, his clothes and other items and as he came down the stairs, he looked at Micky's angry face and began to feel a little bad.
"Mick, look; I know my heart and I know when something is right and when something is wrong. This is right and Hillary is right for me." Mike said trying to get Micky to see his point.
"What am I supposed to say to Peter and Davy?" Micky questioned still miffed at Mike.
"The truth; Hillary and I are getting hitched and we ain't got time to stand here and talk about this anymore." Mike took Hillary's hand and walked out the door and Micky just shook his head.
"I hope you know what you are doing, Michael." Micky said to himself as he walked back to the terrace and sat down.
