After the upset between Derk and Peter, Babs had decided that she and Derk should just leave Julie and Cindi alone for awhile. Amazingly, Derk thought that was an excellent idea. So for awhile, Peter and Julie, and Davy and Cindi had the time of their lives dancing and talking.
"Hey David, I clean tables on Saturday," Cindi said to her date as she tapped him on the shoulder.
"Oh?" Davy asked, not quite sure what Cindi was getting at.
"Cindi works at McDonalds on the weekends," Julie told Davy.
"Oh I see. Do you like it there?" Davy asked.
"No, kids throw fries at me," Cindi said sadly.
"That's terrible," Peter replied, "you should quit."
"Hey, it get me out of the house," Cindi said with a smile.
"Cindi, do you want to dance with me? I'm sure Julie won't mind," Peter asked.
"Sure, let's go!" Cindi said as she dragged Peter out on the dance floor.
"Poor kid, why does she have to work for anyway?" Davy said, shaking his head.
"She does because it's part of a program for mentally handicapped people. It teaches her to be independent. Her parents treat her like a child. She wants to live on her own, possibly with her sister when she gets her own place," Julie said.
"Stella's good to her, isn't she?" Davy asked, thinking about the other Parker girl.
"Yes, she believes Cindi can do whatever she sets her mind to," Julie said. Suddenly, Julie noticed that one of Derk's friends stepped out on the dance floor to cut in on Peter and Cindi's dance. "Oh no, Keith Miller, he's as bad as Derk."
"Is Cindi in trouble?" Davy asked.
"Possibly, let's go warn her," Julie said as she made her way to Cindi. She was too late, however, because Peter allowed Keith to step in. Julie watched as Keith and Cindi started to dance. Everything seemed innocent enough until Keith wrapped his arms around Cindi's waist. The next thing Julie heard was cat calls and whistles. Unaware to Cindi, Keith had slowly lifted up the back of her dress and exposed her panties. Worse yet, they had cartoon characters on them. Poor Cindi thought they were cheering them on as she encouraged the shouting by saying, "yeah, alright!"
Julie marched straight over to Cindi and Keith and pulled them apart.
"Hey, what's the big idea?" Keith asked.
"You know what the big idea is. You humiliated Cindi. You really didn't want to dance with her," Julie shouted.
"Come on Julie, we just dancing," Cindi said.
"No Cindi, Keith embarrassed you. He lifted up your dress while you were dancing. That's why the other kids were making the cat calls. I'm sorry," Julie said.
"Oh," was all Cindi said. She walked off the dance floor with her head down. It hurt Davy to see someone being treated so rotten. He approached Keith and laid right into him.
"That was pretty rotten. Why don't you pick on someone your own size," Davy said as he shoved the senior. Keith was taller than him, but not quite as big through as Derk was.
"What's it to you, shrimp? You got a problem with me?" Keith said as he shoved Davy back.
"Yeah I do. Cindi's a nice person and she doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Now you're gonna pay," Davy said as he gave Keith one hard shove, knocking him to the floor. Before Davy could say another word, Keith was on top of Davy and punching him. As the two boys rolled around on the floor, all the other kids around them cheered for one or the other.
"Yeah, go David!" Cindi shouted with a big smile on her face.
"Davy, stop it!" Peter and Julie yelled.
Suddenly, the two were torn apart by one of the chaperones.
"Just what in the world is going on here?" The coach asked.
"This loser was pushing me around," Keith said as he pointed to Davy.
"Well he was being mean to Cindi Parker," Davy said as he pointed Cindi out to the couch. The coach was well aware of Cindi's daily treatment by these punks, so he decided to go easy on her male guest.
"Ok, since it was a question of honor, you two can stay. Keith, you should know better. One more screw up this evening and you're outta here, you get that?" The coach said.
"Yes sir," Keith said as he glared at Davy. He then walked away.
"I sorry I get you in trouble," Cindi said.
"Yeah, and I'm sorry I let that creep dance with you," Peter apologized.
"It alright. You hurting my toes anyway," Cindi said. Davy began to laugh.
"What's so funny?" Peter asked.
"Your dancing," Davy said.
"Remember, that's my dance instructor you're talking to," Julie said as she patted Peter's head.
"Come on, let's go get some air," Davy said as he headed for the door.
