Chapter 4

When Davy, Peter, Julie, and Cindi had finished eating, they left the restaurant without leaving a tip. Their waiter had treated them like second class citizens all evening. Finally though, Davy pulled up in front of the Ritz-Swank hotel where the prom was to take place. A valet came and took the keys of the Monkeemobile from Davy. Once he stepped out of the car with the others, he looked around in amazement. There were fountains out front with little cherub angels all in the center. At the edge of the fountain was a concrete angel that was pouring water from a bucket. The pathway to the hotel entrance was marble and a string of white lights lit up the courtyard and gardens that surrounded the hotel. Julie slipped her glasses back on and took as many pictures as she possibly could, while Cindi just stood with her mouth gapping open.

"Wow, fancy shmancy," Cindi commented.

"It's amazing," Peter said.

"This place is even more beautiful in the evening," Davy exclaimed.

As they walked, they would comment on each ornamental piece they saw. Finally, they were in the lobby of the grand hotel. A sign pointed the way to where the prom was. Davy led the way and the others followed. Davy led them right to a reception hall down at the end of the corridor.

"Well, this is it," Julie said with a twing of nervousness in her voice.

"Are you alright?" Peter asked as he placed a hand of support on her shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm just scared. At first I really wanted to come to the prom, but now I don't know why I'm here. I don't fit in with these people. They are going to make fun of me no matter what I do," Julie said sadly.

"Don't worry about the other people. If they can't realize how wonderful you are, then they are the ones with the problem. This should be the time of your life," Peter said with a dimpled grin. Davy was amazed. He wanted to know who this wise person was and what he did with his friend Peter Tork. Every since Peter had met Julie he had been different. It was like this whole other side of Peter had been locked away and only Julie had the key to it.

"Shall we?" Davy said as he offered his arm to Cindi.

"Yes, we shall," Cindi said with a giggle.

Upon entering, the four friends gasped at the lovely sight before them. There were flowers on each and every table. There was a white painted gazebo in the corner where couples could get their pictures taken. White balloons and pink silken streamers hung from the rafters. Candles illuminated the refreshment table as light reflected off of the crystal punch bowl.

The band had already started playing and a group of kids jumped into the middle of the floor and began to sway to the music.

"Come on, let's dance," Peter said as he pulled Julie out to the dance floor. Julie laughed at his eagerness.

"Wait for us!" Davy shouted behind them as he took Cindi out on the dance floor also.

They were having a wonderful time, but little did they know a girl and guy standing off in the distance were looking at them and whispering to each other about something. The guy pointed to Julie and the girl snickered. Julie spotted this and her heart sank.

"Oh no, here comes trouble," she thought.
