Chapter 3

After Davy had picked Peter and Julie up at the Pad, the four of them made their way to the restaurant they had reservations at. Cindi sat in the front seat with Davy. To Davy's surprise, the conversation between them went really smoothly. Due to her speech impediment, there were just a few times that Davy had trouble understanding her. Luckily, Julie had been around her long enough to know what she meant, and was able to help Davy out.

Once Davy had pulled up to the restaurant, Peter had gotten out and opened the car door for each girl. Neither Julie nor Cindi recognized the place. It was definitely somewhere they had never been. After Davy had parked the car, he joined the other three. He offered Cindi his arm and she accepted. Peter did the same for Julie and she accepted. When they walked into the restaurant, Julie pulled her glasses out of her purse and slipped them on. She gasped at the sight in front of her.

"Oh Peter, this place is beautiful!" She exclaimed, "Just look at all the chandeliers and paintings. It's really first class. You boys shouldn't have gone to so much trouble."

"Tis no trouble," Davy replied, "Mike just gave Peter and I an advance on our allowances."

"You get allowances?" Julie said as she giggled.

"Well, whenever we play a gig we pay the rent first, and then split the rest up in four equal amounts. Mike just split his share two ways and gave it to both of us for tonight," Peter explained. Soon, a waiter came over to assist the party waiting at the door.

"May I help you?" The waiter asked.

"Yes we have six o'clock reservations. Party of four for Tork," Davy said.

"Excuse me," Peter said.

"Yes sir," the waiter said dryly.

"May we have one of the tables by the window? That way we can look at the ocean," Peter said with a smile.

"Certainly, right this way," the waiter said. The waiter found a choice table for them that overlooked the Pacific Ocean.

"Wow, neato," Cindi exclaimed as she pressed her face against the glass. The waiter gave them all a disgusted and horrified look. Davy shot him a look back, a look that could have killed. With that, the waiter told them he would be back in a few minutes to take their order.

"You sure are beautiful tonight," Peter said as nuzzled against Julie's shoulder.

"Thank you, Peter. I have to give Stella all the credit. She can work wonders with a makeup kit," Julie said.

"Yeah, she did a nice job with both of you girls," Davy complimented as he looked at Cindi and Julie. Davy couldn't help but think about Stella. She was lovely, funny, and smart. He couldn't imagine why he had dumped her in the first place. He decided that after he had taken Cindi to the prom, he would ask Stella to be his girl again. Hopefully, she wouldn't turn him down. Pretty soon the waiter came back to take everyone's order.

"Oh Peter, everything is so expensive. Maybe I should get just a bowl of soup and some dinner rolls," Julie told him right in front of the waiter. The waiter rolled his eyes impatiently.

"Don't you dare. You get whatever you want. This is a very special evening," Peter told her.

"I want cheeseburger. Do you have cheeseburger?" Cindi asked.

"We most certainly do not!" The waiter snapped at her crude grammar. Cindi looked like she was about to cry. Davy jumped right on the scene and tried to make her feel better.

"Look, it's not your fault if the pompous windbag doesn't have any cheeseburgers. Why don't you get a steak? They are wonderful," Davy suggested. The snobby waiter looked like he could have fell over from Davy's comment. Cindi laughed hysterically.

"That good one David," she replied, still laughing. "Ok, I have steak with French fries," Cindi said.

"Ribeye, T-bone, Sirloin, Porterhouse, or New York Strip," The waiter asked. Cindi looked at him like he was crazy. She had never heard of so many choices. Julie decided to help her this time.

"Pick the Sirloin, it's the cheapest," Julie whispered. Cindi gave her a questioning look, "it's good, trust me."

"Ok," Cindi whispered back.

"The other lady and I will have the sirloin, well-done, with fries and a salad please," Julie said as she ordered for both Cindi and herself.

"We'll all have the same," Peter said as he ordered for Davy and himself.

"Very well," the waiter said smugly. As he walked away he could hear Cindi say, " What kinda place don't have cheeseburger?"
