Chapter 5

After practice, they arrived at the malt shop, where they usually hang out. Everyone ordered burgers, fries and cokes and talked.

“So where are you getting married?” Gil asked.

“Probably at the JP. Micky’s not very religious.”

“Ah I see.”

“I am going to get my wish of wearing a wedding gown though. Micky originally just wanted me to wear a yellow dress, like in Randy Scouse Git, but I told him that this has been my dream since I was five years old.”

“I would want to wear a gown too. So what is it going to look like? Do you have one in mind?”

“No I don’t. Sara, we’ll have to go on our lunch break tomorrow and find one.”

“Okay, you know I’m all for it girlie.”

“This is so surreal Manda Banana! At one time we were just swooning over them and now I’m marrying one! My favorite to boot!” Melody squeezed his hand.

“I know! Gee, maybe I’ll catch the bouquet and Gil will have to marry me!” Sara gushed.

“Who says?” Gil joked. “Maybe I don’t want to marry you!”

“Oh sure! You even said that the other night that you wished we were married!” Sara laughed.

“Oh really? So Gil, when do you plan on proposing?” Micky joked.

“Not for a long while. Sara and I agreed on that. Didn’t we princess?”

“Yes we did. I really don’t want to be married just yet.”

They ended up talking for the next hour and then Melody came up with an idea.

“Hey do you guys want to drive up to the Canyon? There’s a great look out and the lights are outtasite at night.”

They all agreed and they went in the Monkeemobile up to Laurel Canyon. They enjoyed looking at the lights, but then both couples got occupied with each other and started to make out.

“Micky, I want you.” Melody whispered huskily.

“I want you too. Let’s go back to your pad.”

“Okay. Hey guys? Micky and I want to be alone at my place, so we’ll drop you guys off at the malt shop.”

“Okay.” Gil and Sara said in unison.

They dropped them off at the malt shop and Sara drove to Gil’s since it was his turn to have her over.

Once they got in, they continued making out on the couch.

“Gil, what would happen if we ended up together?”

“I don’t know. I’m so hot, I need you now.”

“What about our agreement?”

“I should say forget about the agreement, but we really can’t, can we?”

“No I guess we can’t. Oh Gil, I’m jealous of them. They are getting married and they can make love whenever they want. Why can’t we do that?”

“You shouldn’t be jealous of them, they are our best friends.”

“I know. I’m sorry. It’s just that I fantasize every day and night, I want to know what it feels like.”

“I do too but we did make a promise to each other. What if we got married now?”

“Griss we can’t. I want my wedding to be formal and I want Melody to be my maid of honor and I am sure you want Micky to be your best man. I also want Jim to walk me down the aisle, since I consider him a father.”

“Yeah you’re right. I guess it’s time for the cold shower, huh?”

“Yeah. I seem to take them a lot lately. How about you?”

“Oh yeah.”

They each took cold showers and got ready for bed. Sara got into her nightgown and Grissom got into his pajamas and they slipped in between the satin sheets.

“Good night my princess.”

“Good night my prince.”

They kissed each other and turned out the lights.

~~~~~~~
The next morning after breakfast Gil made a stop at the local jewelry store before work. He didn’t tell Sara where he was going though.
“I’ll see you at work darling, I have an errand to run.”
“Okay baby. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
He got in his mustang and drove to Cassells Jewelry Store, which was on La Cienega Blvd. He thought to himself before he got out, ‘I plan to do this tomorrow night at her apartment. I want her as mine forever.’
He went in and found a beautiful white gold diamond band. It had diamonds all around and a ½ carat diamond in the middle. He thought of having it engraved but he wondered how long that would take. He figured he would ask.
“Excuse me. How long would it take to engrave an engagement ring?”
“I can have it done in an hour. Are you interested?” The gray haired man in his 60’s asked Gil.
“Yes I am. I would like the ring right there.” He pointed to the ring. “I would like to have on it ‘Sara and Grissom – together forever.’”
“Very well sir. I can have it in an hour.”
“Okay I’ll be back then.”
He walked around La Cienega and came back in an hour. He got it in a velvet Midnight Blue box.
“My girlfriend will love this, thanks so much!” He hoped he got the right size – it was a 6.
When he got to work, Sara met him with a kiss and a message.
“Jim called. He has another case for us to work on.”
“Far out! This is the sixth one this month!”
“Far out indeed. Griss, it’s so funny when you use modern terms.”
“You don’t like it?”
“I do, it’s just strange coming from you, Mr. Prim and Proper scientist.”
“Oh well, I like to sometimes, it’s fun.”
“Anyhow, go and call Jim, he wants you to call back.”
“Okay princess. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
Gil sat down and dialed his phone.
“Brass.”
“Hey Jim.”
“Hey Gil. I take it Sara gave you the message. There’s a case involving a husband that we think may have been murdered by his wife. We need evidence though. I have a search warrant to search the house for evidence.”
“Okay. As soon as Sara and I process the body we will go ahead and search.”
“Great! So how are things going with you and Sara?”
“Wonderful.” Gil looked to make sure Sara wasn’t nearby. When she wasn’t, Gil whispered. “I’m going to ask her to marry me tonight.”
“Excellent pal! I’m rooting for you.”
“Thanks. We’ll see you in a few minutes.”
They hung up and Gil told Sara that they had to go to the Crime Lab.
Once they got there, they went to the lab and processed the body for fingerprints. Sara took photos as usual. They then left for the suspect’s house and did a search. They found a knife that had blood on it. Gil took solution from his kit and put some on the knife. Sara then took a Q-tip and got a sample. Sara took a photo of the knife, and then they put it back where it was after they dusted for fingerprints on the knife’s handle.
They went back to the lab and used the machine that does blood analysis. It was type O, once they had the information back from the database they would find out what type blood the suspect’s wife was.
Once they got back to the office, they went over to the computer room and found a name on the database.
“Mrs. Isabelle O’Hanlon. It was his wife all right. It says she has type O blood too. I’ll call Jim.”
Gil called Jim and he called Mrs. O’Hanlon in for questioning. She confessed and got sent to jail. Her trial was next month.
They closed their doors at 5:00 and went to her house for the night.
Gil figured he would pop the question after dinner out on her balcony.
Their dinner consisted of Alaskan whitefish, buttered green beans and rice. After they cleaned up the dishes and glasses, they went over to her couch.
“Sara, would you like to come out on the balcony with me? It’s a beautiful night and the stars are shining.”
“Sure.”
They walked out onto Sara’s balcony, which was on the 3rd floor.
Gil got down on one knee. “Sara Sidle, will you marry me?”
“Griss? Omigosh, yes! I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” He arose and gave her a passionate kiss.
“Gil, the ring is beautiful! I love white gold, how did you know?”
“I figured you did. I guess I went by instinct.”
“I guess you did because I know I never told you. I have to call Mel! Do you mind?”
“No, I don’t.”
She ran back in and called her best friend.
“Hello?”
“Hey girlie, are you busy?”
“Well, I’m with Mick right now...”
“I’m sorry but this is mega important. Gil just asked me to marry him!”
They both screamed over the phone.
“Omigosh! You are getting married too?”
“Yes! You know you have to be my maid of honor.”
“Of course! Does Gil want Micky to be the best man?”
“I’ll do it!” came the voice from the background.
“Gil? You want Micky to be your best man?”
“Yes.”
“Groovalicious! Oh Mel, this is just so super groovy!”
“So when is your big day?”
“I don’t know. Gil? When are we getting married?”
“How about in two months?”
“Do you hear that? We are marrying before you by four months!”
“What is Gil trying to do, outdo us?” Melody joked.
“Yeah sure!” Sara laughed.
“We are going to have to get together and get your gown, girlie.”
“Yes we will. How about tomorrow?”
“Okay. Then I have to pack for my trip.”
“Trip? Where are you going?”
“I’m going on tour for three months with the guys! Isn’t that uptight outtasite?”
“Yeah! I’m so happy for you!”
“Thanks. Well, I gotta split. See you later Manda Banana!”
“See ya Suzie Q!”
The girls hung up and Sara went back out with Gil on the balcony. She sat down on a patio chair and grabbed his hand.
“Gil, since we’re engaged, do you think we could make love?”
“I am not sure. I know we aren’t going to turn back, so perhaps we could?”
“Gil, I’m scared if you want to know a secret.”
“Why?”
“Well, I’ve never had sex before and I have heard that it hurts bad.”
“Who told you that? It shouldn’t. I mean I’ve heard that women have some discomfort, but as far as full blown pain, I don’t think so.”
“Mean old Sister Bernadette told me that when I was 14. I guess it was to scare us. Melody had sex before so I guess it didn’t scare her.”
“If you aren’t ready, we won’t. I can wait an extra two months.”
“Okay. I guess I have to mentally prepare myself for this. I mean my body is screaming yes but my mind is holding me back.”
“You know, we could at least see each other.”
“We could. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“We could spoon too you know, but I’ll make sure that nothing happens.”
“Okay. I’m excited about this!”
“Me too. You want to go now?”
“Sure.”
They turned out the lights and went to bed.
“You are beautiful.”
“You are handsome.”
“I love you so much Sara.”
“I love you too Gil.”
~~~~~~~~

The next morning Sara awoke feeling guilty. “Gil, I don’t know if that should have happened last night.”

“It’s okay. Nothing sexual happened.”

“Yes it did. Honey, you touched me. I hope we are going to be okay. I feel like I should go to confession or something.”

“If you need to you can. Or we can talk to a preacher, he might be able to help more.”

“True. I never liked confession anyhow. It’s just that I feel so dirty, so used.”

“I know a man who you can talk to. His name is Reverend John Robinson, and he’s a preacher from the Methodist church. He is a friend of mine.”

“Okay, let’s make an appointment and go. I’m kind of embarrassed about it though.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure he’s heard worse.”

He called him on the phone and they made an appointment for that afternoon.

“Hi Gil, how are you? It’s been quite awhile, what, a year?”

“Yeah, sorry I haven’t kept in touch, life has kept me busy. This is my fiancée, Sara Sidle. We have an issue that we need cleared up and you can give us the best answer.”

“Go ahead.”

“Well, Reverend...”

“Please Sara, call me John. Only my good friends call me that.”

“Thank you! Anyhow, Gil and I are refraining from sex until after we get married. Last night, Gil touched me where he shouldn’t have and well; something happened if you know what I mean. Is that considered sex?”

“Yes it is. You can ask for forgiveness. But make sure you don’t do anything more until your wedding night.”

“Okay thanks. But neither of us are saved, can we still ask for forgiveness?” Sara asked.

“Would you both like to know Jesus as your personal savior? I can help you do that.”

“I know I would, I have thought about it lately. I am not sure about Gil though.”

“I would. I haven’t practiced Catholicism in years, but I do still seek a relationship with Him.”

“All you have to do is say a special prayer. It’s nothing fancy. Close your eyes and I will say it with you.”

Gil and Sara closed their eyes, and so did John.

“Dear Lord,”

“Dear Lord,”

“I would like you”

“I would like you”

“To forgive me of all my sins,”

“To forgive me of all my sins,”

“And allow me into your heart.”

“And allow me into your heart.”

“In your name I pray, Amen.”

“In your name I pray, Amen.”

They opened their eyes and Sara started to cry.

“Thank you John. May we come to your church?”

“You are welcome to anytime. Sunday School is at 9:45 and service is at 11.”

“Wonderful. We will be sure to come on Sunday. We may even bring a couple friends with us if we can talk them into it.” Gil said happily.

“Wonderful! The more the merrier.”

“We’ll see you on Sunday then!” Sara said.

When they got out to the car, Gil asked, “Are you okay?”

“Yes, I am happy as a clam! I am glad we came here today. I now am a baby Christian.”

“Yes I am too. It’s a wonderful feeling isn’t it?”

“It sure is. No more spooning, we can’t risk it.”

“You’re right. It will lead to temptation, that’s for sure.”

“We have to be careful when we make out too, you know how heavily involved we get at times.”

“I know. Perhaps we should sleep in separate beds for two months, so it doesn’t happen again.”

“Yes we should. I’ll miss you but it has to be this way.”

“I’ll miss you too, but it’s for the best.”

~~~~~~~~
They got to work and it was a day like any other at the office. They got another call from Jim; they will have two cases to work on this week. The one is in San Diego so they would have to make the two-hour drive and back once they collected the evidence.
Two weeks have passed and it was the day that Micky and Melody leave for the tour with the rest of the crew. Gil and Sara were at the beach house to see them off. They were going to the airport to fly to New York City.
“I’ll miss you girlie.” Sara hugged her friend.
“I’ll miss you too sweetie. Love ya.”
“Love ya too. When we get back we are going to have to go over colors and what I am wearing for the maid of honor’s dress.”
“Okay. Until later.”
“Later mate.” She sounded like Davy and he laughed.
“That was good, love.”
Sara took a bow and everyone laughed.
“You know honey, you can call Sara and Gil from the road.” Micky stated.
“I can? I’ll call you probably next week.”
“Okay.”
“Hey Gil, I can talk to you too. There’s a new project I want to start when I get back. Have you ever heard of Gyrocopters? Well I’d like to build one and I’ll need your scientific knowledge on some things.”
“Okay. I’ve never heard of one but it sounds cool.”
“Yeah it is. I’ll see ya for the wedding!” He gave Gil a hug and shook his hand. “You take care of your lady, okay?”
“You know I will. Are you sure you guys can cancel a couple dates for the wedding?”
“Yeah. We have no manager, so it’s cool.” Mike said. “We don’t want to miss this for the world.”
“Great!” they both exclaimed in unison.
They got into the Monkeemobile and off they went to the airport. Gil and Sara waved goodbye until they were out of sight.
“I’m going to miss them.” Sara started to sniffle.
“Don’t cry honey, they will be back for the wedding in one in a half months.”
“You’re right. Let’s go back to my place, I’ll make you some lunch.”
“Great.”
The End
