Monday morning came quickly. It was time for Sara to go to work. When she arrived at the office, she put the coffee on and sat at her desk.
Gil came in and greeted Sara. “Morning.”
“Morning Gil.” Sara then got up and kissed him on the lips.
“Sara, you kissed me at work.”
“Is that okay?”
“Yeah, but we can’t do that in front of clients.”
“I know that. Hey, are we going to find out about the case?”
“I hope Jim calls today, I’d like to see that solved.”
“Me too. I’d like to see him get quite a few years for what he did and I hope they don’t let him out for good behavior.”
“Yeah me too.”
Just then the phone rang.
“Gilbert Grissom Detective Agency. This is Sara Sidle, how may I help you?”
“Hey Sara, it’s Jim. Put Gil on.”
“Okay. Gil, it’s Jim on line one.”
“Hello?”
“Hey Gil. We got him. He finally confessed, even though the lawyer kept telling him to stay quiet.”
“Great! I’ll be down in a few to collect the paycheck.”
“Okay. He’s looking at five to ten.”
“Great. I hope he doesn’t get out for good behavior.”
“I hope not either. He shouldn’t have the last time.”
“Hey Gil, why is Sara calling you by your first name all of a sudden? Is there something going on between you two that I don’t know about?” He knows how much Gil likes her; in fact he’s always trying to get them together.
“For your information, Sara and I are dating. We are officially a couple.”
“It’s about time Gil. I’ve been wanting you two to get together for quite sometime.”
“I know Jim. That’s why I figured I’d let you know.”
The two men hung up, and Gil went out to see Sara.
“So what do you want to do after work?”
“I don’t know. Can we hang out at your house? I haven’t been there yet.”
“Sure, that would be great!”
They both got to their cars; Sara had a 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS (Super Sport). She picked it up for $75 at the junkyard. It was in a bad accident and all she had to do was fix it. It took six months, but she did it. She even painted it Monkee guitar red with a black stripe down the center.
“Sara, have I ever told you that I dig your wheels?”
“Griss, when did you start with the hip lingo of today?”
“Since I met you. I like it. Besides I need to stay hip to be your boyfriend.”
“No you don’t.” Sara laughed. “That’s ridiculous.”
“Yeah you’re right. I know you love me for who I am. But I must admit I like a lot of the terms. I just can’t stand groovy and uptight outtasite, those terms annoy me.”
“I don’t have to use them around you, but Suzie Q and I like to use them.”
“Suzie Q?” Gil looked puzzled.
“Yeah, that’s my name for Melody. She calls me Manda Banana. We came up with those names at the Catholic home.” Sara laughed.
“Ah I see. Where did you come up with them?”
“There were two girls that we didn’t like at the home – Suzie Holmes and Amanda Burns. They were stuck up snobs. So the one day we were goofing off and the names just kind of stuck.”
“Very interesting indeed.”
They got into their cars and drove off to Gil’s house. It was a white two story Cape Cod on a Cul-de-sac.
It was the middle home and Sara noted, “Gee Gil, you really like things being laboratory white, don’t you?”
“What? I do not!”
“You are so absolutely clueless aren’t you? Think about the office – what was it like before I livened it up with plants and paintings?”
“Oh yeah. Well, it’s the way I am. Do you think you are going to come in and change my home too?” Gil smiled.
“Oh I could...” Sara smirked.
“You wouldn’t.”
“Oh just watch me.” Sara started giggling and Gil placed a smoldering kiss on her lips.
“I love you, Sara Sidle.”
“I love you too, Gilbert Grissom.”
“Don’t call me by my full name, it’s bad enough that I have to hear it when you answer the phone at work.”
“Well that is the name of the agency. What, are you thinking of changing it?”
“I could. I could go ultra formal and call it the Dr. Gil Grissom Detective Agency.”
“Oh puhleeze. I can’t picture that. Besides there is no way that I want to say that every day on the phone.”
“How about the Gil Grissom Detective Agency?”
“Why don’t you just leave it alone? I like it the way it is.”
“Okay. Anything for you my princess.”
“Ooh now I’m your princess. You may bow to me loyal subject.”
“As you wish malady.” Gil bowed down in front of her and kissed her hand.
“You are so chivalrous. That’s why I love you so much.”
“You mean you would like me to open doors and pull out chairs for you? I thought you were an independent woman.”
“I am, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like a little romantic chivalry. I may be a tomboy but I like romance.”
“I can be romantic. Just watch. Come with me to my dining room.”
“Okay.” Sara giggled at the thought of her prince holding a chair out for her.
Gil pulled out one of his cherry Queen Anne chairs for her and she very politely sat down.
“Why thank you my handsome prince.”
“Ooh now I’m your prince. Now you may bow to me loyal subject.”
Sara got up from the chair and bowed down, kissing his Harvard class ring.
“Ah you kissed my sacred class ring, you will have to pay malady.”
“With what?”
“I shall have to give you 50 lashes with a wet noodle.”
“You don’t have that, so what else do you have lover boy?” Sara giggled and stuck out her tongue.
“I can give you a spanking that you will never forget.”
“Oh really? I’d like to see you catch me.” Sara started to run around the house.
“Oh you’re going to get it!” Gil laughed as he chased Sara into his laundry room.
“For running from me malady, you are going to get it real good.” He laughed evilly and carried her out to his black and white striped couch.
He sat down and proceeded to playfully spank her. Sara pretended to cry.
“Oh my fair prince! Don’t hurt me anymore, I will obey you!”
They both started to laugh and then they kissed passionately, their tongues touching. Gil started to reach for her breasts but she put his hands to the side.
“Gil, I thought we were going to remain celibate.”
“I know but you don’t know how bad I want you.”
“I want you too, but we mustn’t. I know you respect me.”
“I do Sara. I wish we were married so we could go to my bed and make love.”
“Married? So how often do you fantasize about that one?”
“Quite a bit actually. Do you?”
“Yes, I must admit that I do. But that’s all it can be right now. We just started dating.”
“I know.” Gil sighed deeply. “I wish we could make the mistake just once.”
“Would it be a mistake for you?” Sara frowned.
“Of course not. I love you.”
“Okay. Well, we can’t. It’s better this way.”
“Well I need a cold shower now.”
“Me too. But we can’t do that together either. So we shall have to have some coffee and do something else.”
“Okay. Coffee it is. Gil walked over to his kitchen and brewed a pot of coffee. They each drank some and decided to read some science journals.
“Gil, I’m tired. I think I will go home now.”
“You can stay if you want. We can sleep in my bed but don’t worry; I won’t touch you. Scouts honor.”
“You were a scout?”
“As a matter of fact, I was an Eagle Scout.”
“Well la dee da!” Sara laughed. “I’m impressed.”
“Great. So what do you say?”
“I say yes.”
Gil went and took a shower and then Sara did. Since Sara didn’t bring any pajamas, Gil gave her one of his pajama tops, which was probably four sizes too big for her.
The next morning, they awoke. The sunshine was in their eyes, making their eyes squint.
“Good morning sleepy head.” Gil kissed Sara.
“Good morning Griss.” She yawned and stretched.
“How did you sleep?”
“Real well. I don’t usually do well in another bed, but since you were with me, everything was wonderful.”
“Would you like to do this all the time?”
“Yes, I would. This was really comfy.”
“I thought it was heavenly. It was just like we were married. We can go back and forth – like tonight we can crash at your apartment.”
“Okay great! Now we need to get some breakfast.”
“I know this great diner down the road from here. Are you interested in going?”
“Sure, I love diner food!”
“So do I! There’s just something about eggs, bacon and toast from the diner.”
“I know. I haven’t been to one in over a year so this will be great!”
They got dressed and Gil packed his pajamas and toothbrush so he can stay at Sara’s.

Micky and Melody were quite the item. Micky even missed a practice because they were at a new rock musician named Jimi Hendrix’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Mike was peeved to say the least.
“Shotgun, why the heck did you have to go and miss the practice? We start our tour in two weeks in New York City! We have to be ready.”
“I’m sorry Mike! You have to hear Jimi, he rocks!”
“Man, we don’t need an opening act and that’s final!”
“Aw come on Mike! He’s really groovy!”
“No is no, Mick.”
“Fine."
"Be at practice tonight at six. We have a concert tomorrow at the Michelangelo.”
“Okay, I’m bringing Melody. She’s also going to come with me to the show tomorrow night.”
“Fine. Don’t you think you are seeing too much of her?”
“No way man. I love her. In fact, I’m going to tell her tonight by asking her to marry me.”
“Marry you??? You’re going to break up the band!”
“No I’m not. Mike, you can’t get in the way of true love.”
“Who says? We don’t need her ruining our lives.”
“She’s a sweet gal. She’s not going to ruin anything!”
“Well where are you both going to live? You can’t live here!”
“Why not? I don’t have the money, and we need to keep the band together.”
“There’s no room at the inn Mick.” “Well then we can live at her apartment. Besides I don’t plan on getting hitched until a few months.”
“That’s just after the tour! What if we plan another tour and you guys have kids?”
“We’re not going to have kids right away! I can’t believe you man, you are an idiot do you know that?”
“I could punch your nose until it’s broken, do you know that?”
“Go right ahead Mike. I don’t really care.”
“Guys, can’t we just give peace a chance?” Peter intervened.
“Never mind. I don’t need you sounding nasal for the show tomorrow night.”
“Fine. I’m going to Mel’s. I’ll be back at six.”
Micky walked to Melody’s apartment since he had to leave the Monkeemobile for the others. He made a note to get a car. He liked Gil’s Midnight Blue mustang. When he gets enough money after the tour, he’s going to buy one.
He arrived at her pad twenty minutes later and rang the bell.
“Who is it?” her voice melodiously sang.
“It’s Mick.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there sweetie.”
Three minutes later Melody arrived in the front entrance. She was wearing a blue Hawaiian print tank dress and red espadrilles. Her nails were painted red and she was wearing a matching blue Hawaiian print headband.
“Hi honey!” She gave him a kiss on the lips.
“Hi.”
“You sound defeated. What happened?”
“I’ll tell you when we get inside.”
They got to her pad and went inside.
“So what’s wrong?”
“Mike and I had a fight.”
“Why? I didn’t think you guys fight.”
“Oh we’ve had some real drag out knock downs before. Anyhow, he said you were going to ruin our group.”
“What? I oughtta...Why would he say that?”
“Well, I was going to save this for a little later on, but I guess now is as good a time as any.”
He pulled out a red velvet box and got down on one knee. “Melody Mulcahy, will you marry me?” He pulled out a ½ carat diamond gold ring.
She was flabbergasted and started to cry tears of joy. “Oh Micky. I love you. Yes, I will marry you.”
They hugged and kissed passionately.
“So that’s why Mike said that?” Melody angrily asked.
“Yes. I told him you wouldn’t. Then he said that we couldn’t live at the beach house, so I told him we would live here.”
“We can live here and let me tell you I wouldn’t even think of breaking up the band. He knows fully that you guys are the bee’s knees! I can’t believe him! I ought to tell him off!”
“Don’t bother honey. It’s not worth it believe me.”
“Okay. So what do you want to do?”
“Well, I have to be back at practice at six, so before we go there we can just hang out, since it’s 4:30.”
“Okay. Listen I have to call Sara and tell her the big news! I want her to be maid of honor!” Melody giggled joyfully and skipped over to the pink Princess phone by her paisley couch.
“Gilbert Grissom Detective Agency. Sara Sidle speaking, how may I help you?”
“Sara, do I have something to tell you girlie!”
“Hey girlie, what’s the big thing?”
“I’m getting married!”
“Omigosh! My girl is getting married! When’s the big day?” Sara shrieked over the phone and Gil looked up from his desk, wondering what was going on.
“I don’t know. Mick, when are we getting hitched? We are getting married in six months! Oh Sara, you know I want you to be my maid of honor.”
“Oh you know it girlfriend!”
“Mick wants Gil to be his best man.”
“Hey Gil? Micky and Melody are getting married in six months. Micky wants you to be his best man.”
Gil picked up his phone. “Put Micky on, Mel. Hey Micky, congratulations! I would be honored to be your best man.”
“I consider you my best friend. I rank you over Mike, who was my best friend. We had a terrible fight, but I’ll tell you about it later. After the rehearsal, you guys want to go out and get a bite?”
“Sure. We’ll see you tonight. What time?”
“Practice should be over around 8, so how about then?”
“Sounds great. We’ll see you then.”
Sara got back on with Melody. “I’m so happy for you guys. We’ll chat tonight!”
Sara hung up and went into Gil’s office. “Gil this is so fab! My best friend is getting married to the man who was once in my dreams and is now going to occupy hers for life.”
“I know. I’m happy for them. Why don’t we close up since it’s 5:00 and get ready. I’ll pick you up at 7:30.”
“May I pick you up instead? I want the guys to see my far out street rod.”
“Sure. You really are proud of that aren’t you?”
“You know it. It’s my pride and joy.”
“I thought that I was.” Gil mockingly frowned.
“Aw love, you are.” She knew he was joking but she meant every word. “It’s my pride and joy as far as inanimate objects are concerned.”
She gave him a passionate kiss.
“I love you, Sara Sidle.”
“I love you too, Gil Grissom.”
They went out to their cars and drove to their own places. They got changed and Sara picked him up at 7:30.
