Chapter 10

Mike, Micky, and Davy could see why Peter always talked so fondly about his hometown It was very quaint and quiet. A far cry for Malibu Beach, but quite just the same. They went out to explore the town, yet they were always careful not to run into Peter. A lot of that was due to the fact that Petra gave the boys Peter's work schedule. They became interested in a club that featured local bands. So they decided one night to go and see what the locals had for entertainment.

"Hey Mike, this place is nice!" Davy said. His eyes were more so on the local girls than the club's atmosphere.

"Yeah it is. I'd, uh, watch it if I were you Davy-boy. Mrs. Seymore might get jealous," Micky chided. Ever since Davy "turned on the charm," Mrs. Seymore had been dropping in and making the boys, or rather Davy, all sorts of goodies. It had become a running joke.

"Cool it guys. The show's about to start," Mike said.

The lights dimmed and a spotlight was reflected on the stage. The MC stepped into the light.

"Hey guys and gals! How's everyone tonight? We've got a real treat for you. A local boy who's spent some time in California has returned home. Making his debut here tonight is Peter Tholkelson!" The crowd burst into a wild applause. After all, they were Peter's friends and they wanted to hear him sing.

Mike, Micky, and Davy each looked shocked and started to slide down their seats. It was a good thing they weren't exactly in the front, but they still did not want to be seen. Petra caught Mike's eye and managed to get to the guys before Peter took the stage and quickly removed Mike's hat.

"What are you guys doing here?" She asked as she sat beside them.

"We thought we'd check out the club an' all," Mike half-way whispered.

"Don't worry. The lights on the stage makes it impossible for him to see you. But that hat would have been a dead give away. We don't have people wearing hats here much, Mike," Petra explained.

"Thank you for that observation," Mike muttered.

"Why didn't you warn us?" Davy asked.

"No time. Peter just decided that he wanted to play." Petra explained.

"Shhh. He's on stage," Micky said.

Peter took center stage...

"Thank you. It's great to be here. As some of you know, I was in a band while I was in California and I wrote this song for my bandmates. I haven't titled it yet, but I hope you enjoy it," Peter said. Then, he began to play the song that had kept him preoccupied while he was in California; the song that Petra had told Mike, Micky, and Davy about. Peter finished the song and went backstage.

"That's great stuff!" Mike said after the song.

"Man, we could do a lot with that, "Micky added.

"It would be groovy if we could perform it together," Davy added.

"Hmm. Petra, you need to get us that song, Mike said.

"No problem. Have you got a plan?" Petra asked.

"Just get us the music. I think we've found a way to get Peter back."

The boys hurriedly rushed out of the club and Peter joined his sister who was now sitting alone at the table.

"That was a great singing ya did," Petra said.

"Thanks! Where did those guys go that were sitting with you?" Peter asked.

"Guys? Oh those!! They were just some friends. They had to leave."

"I really couldn't see too clearly from the stage, but those guys really looked familiar to me. Can you believe that for a moment, I thought it was Mike, Micky and Davy? But it couldn't have been. Mike never goes anywhere without that hat."

"No he wouldn't." Petra agreed.

Suddenly she looked down and saw that she still had Mike's hat on her lap. She quickly hid it from Peter and inwardly sighed a sigh of relief.
