Chapter 7

A/N: Peter made his trip home half by bus and half by hitch-hiking. Also, I have borrowed a bit of 'Monkee Magic' to enhance the time frame. So please bear with me and I hope you enjoy my saga.

---------------

As the guys stopped along the road in Richfield, Denver, they met another group of travelers. They were from the east coast heading west. They wanted to find fame and fortune in being a successful recording group. The two groups got together and talked as they ate their lunches.

"So, you guys are gonna try the west coast scene?" Micky asked as he took a bite from his sandwich.

"That's the dream, babe." Jimmy, the leader of the group replied.

"Yeah, we left New York 'bout a week ago. We're just taking our time and enjoying this crazy country side, man. We're getting a lot of inspiration." Joel, the drummer added.

"Why are you guys goin' in the other direction? Ya give up on the west?" Mark, the guitar player asked.

"No. We're goin' ta Connecticut to get a friend." Mike answered.

"Connecticut? Hey Chuck, didn't that dude we met said he was headed to Connecticut?" Jimmy asked.

"Yeah. What was his name? Oh, yeah. It was Peter." Chuck remembered.

Mike, Micky and Davy looked at one another in surprise. Could they have met their Peter?

"Yeah," Chuck continued. "Said that he used to be a bass player in a band in California. He sure knows music. He gave me a few pointers on playing the bass."

"Did 'e say why 'e was leaving California?" Davy asked timidly.

"Nah. Just said he was going home. We met him when we stopped at the same restaurant for a break. He was riding a bus." Joel said.

"Oh, he did say that once we made it to California, we should head to Malibu and look up a guy by the name of Michael Nesmith. He said that Mike an' his buddies would treat us right and offer any help they could. That Michael dude and his friends must be groovy guys." Mark said.

"Yeah. He really talked on about what great friends they had been to him. Wonder why he left?" Jimmy asked.

"I guess he had his reasons." Micky answered meekly.

"Well, all we can say is that this Peter dude really respected these guys. Guess he just had to move on." Jimmy mused. "And speaking of moving on, we'd better get goin' ourselves."

"Yeah, us too. Nice talkin' to you guys." Mike said as they started to clean their eating area.

"Ya know, this dude Peter did say we should change the name of our band to something that would grab attention." Mark said getting into the driver's seat of their car.

"What did ya call yourselves on the east coast?" Davy asked.

"The Way-Ins. But thanks to Peter, we're now the Far-Outs!! California or Bust!!!" They yelled as they drove away.

Mike, Micky, and Davy knew that "The Far-Outs" had indeed met their Peter.

"Well that just goes to show you what kind of guy Peter is." Mike said as he walked to the car.

"Ta think, we were so down on the guy an' all he does is talk us up. And to perfect strangers!" Micky said getting into his seat.

"Mike, Micky, we gotta get Peter to come back home." Davy said as he climbed into the back seat. "We just gotta."
