"Hello?" Mike said into the phone.
"Hey, Mike! It's me, Petra."
"Petra...uh...hey. Uh, what's goin' on?" Mike asked a bit nervously.
"That's what I'd like to know." Petra said. "Mike, Peter's here at home. He just said he missed his family an' came home. I don't believe that. Did you guys break up?"
"Peter's at home." Mike told Davy and Micky, who became immediately interested in the conversation, then he turned his attention back to the phone.
"No, Petra, we haven't broken up. I'm afraid we weren't very nice to Peter and hurt his feelings about his forgettin' things."
"I knew it was something. He hasn't said much of anything except that thing about being home-sick." Petra said.
"How is he?" Mike asked.
"Not so good. He's putting up a good front, but there is a sadness there. He may miss this family, but I'm sure it's you guys that he's homesick for."
"What has he been doin'?" Mike asked.
"Well, you know how dad is about Peter and the music thing. Man, Peter took a full dose of 'I-told-you-so.' Dad's tryin' to get him to enroll in school next semester. Meanwhile, he's taken a job at the grocer in town. But you know what? After work he comes home and starts playing a song on his guitar. It's really a good song from what I hear of it, but he plays it sad."
"Does he know you're callin' us?"
"Oh no!! He'd kill me if he found out. I'm in a phone booth!" Petra said rather proudly.
"Don't let on that ya called us. Keep an eye on him. The guys and I will work this thing out."
"I hope so Mike. I love my brother and I love having him around, but he misses you guys and it hurts me to see him this way." Petra said tearfully.
"Don't you worry, shotgun. As I said, we'll work this out. You take care and keep an eye on Peter."
----------
As soon as Mike got off the phone, he explained the situation that Petra had told him.
"Well, what are we gonna do, Mike?" Davy asked.
"I'll tell ya what were gonna do. We're gonna go git Peter!" Mike said firmly.
Micky and Davy smiled and immediately went to their rooms to pack.
