Chapter 2

The next morning. . .

The guys gathered in the kitchen for breakfast. It was Peter's turn to cook. That meant a hot, piping bowl of root-beer soup.

Sleepily the guys walked into the kitchen and took their seats at the table. It took a minute to know that Peter was not at the stove. Their places were not set.

"Uh, Mike, doesn't it seem something's wrong here?" Micky asked as he looked around the kitchen.

"Where's Peter?" Mike asked, now beginning to be fully awake.

"Maybe 'e overslept. I'll go check 'is bed." Davy said getting up from the table.

"Don't tell me he forgot to wake up!" Micky quipped.

Davy ran back into the kitchen wide-eyed and frantic.

"Guys! He's gone!!!" Davy yelled.

The guys ran to the room and saw that Peter's bed was not slept in. They checked his ceder chest and closet. Thy then ran back to the reshersal stand and saw that the bass guitar was gone. They looked at each other in disbelief and together they acknowledged that Peter was gone.

The days after Peter's departure was quiet in the pad. At first they thought that Peter just went off to get himself together. But he had been gone now for three days and there was no word from him. The usual playfullness had stopped. In fact, Mike cancelled rehersals. After all, they couldn't practice without a bass player and to find a replacement was out of the question. No one dared say the word "replacement" when it came to Peter. It was just unheard of.

All the guys missed Peter in their own way. Mike missed bouncing ideas about songs off Peter. Say what you will, but Mike knew Peter was a serious musician and one he could appreciate.

Davy missed talking with Peter about meditation, nature and just to art of being. Davy knew Peter to be comical in some ways, but he respected his quality to keep life balanced.

Micky missed the fun the two would have. Sure, he'd try out some of his jokes and pranks on Peter; because he was always a good sport. Micky missed Peter's laugh.
