Chapter 6

"It was groovy, Cherrie! We had the audience eating out of our hands! Even though my ears haven't stopped ringing yet, I could do this every day for the rest of my life!"

Davy and Cherrie were walking through the park two days after the concerts in Phoenix. Davy's outburst sent him racing ahead of Cherrie. He had enough energy to run up the side of one of the trees that lined the path.

Cherrie laughed and gazed fondly at the young man she had known for a mere 18 days. "Davy, slow down! I want you to tell me every little thing that happened, but I can't understand you when you're so excited."

Davy stopped, turned slowly, and walked back to Cherrie. He took her in his arms and gave her a kiss that took her breath away. You could see the stars dancing in their eyes when they finally pulled away from each other.

"Luv, it was so outasight that I don't think words can describe it. The crowd was screaming and the girls tried to pull us off the stage anytime we got too close to the edge. The only drag was the cops that stood by the stage. I think they got too rough with the kids. I mean, I'm glad that they were there and all. If the girls actually got hold of us they'd probably tear us apart, but the cops didn't have to shove them and drag them away." Davy's eyes clouded over with the memory. He looked so pained that Cherrie touched his cheek gently.

"I'm glad the police were there to protect all of you. I don't want anything happening to my guy or his friends while they're performing." Cherrie quickly looked away when she saw the look on Davy's face.

"Your guy? Did I hear you right? Am I your guy, Cherrie?" Davy put his hand under Cherrie's chin to bring her eyes back to his. He looked searchingly into her green eyes. "It's okay. I want you to be honest with me, always."

Shyly, she nodded. "I do think of you as mine, Davy. Out of all those girls, I want you to think about me the most. When you're singing, I hope you're thinking about me when you say `I'll be true to you,' or `On the day we fall in love, you and me.' Please don't say you think of anybody else!" A tear made a quick escape from Cherrie's eye. She turned away to try to hide it.

Davy circled her with his arms and hugged her tight. She turned back towards him and buried her face in his chest. He smelled the clean, floral aroma of Cherrie's long, silky hair. It felt right when he held her. While he wasn't sure he could make such a promise this soon in their friendship, he was beginning to feel that it was not going to be long until he could.
