After Groot had left the laboratory, Dr. Mendoza walked over to his captives once again.
"Gentlemen, I'm so sorry." He said, "Groot has just informed me that your friend tried to escape out of a high window, but then unfortunately fell to his death." The evil doctor chuckled to himself at the horrified expression on the faces of the three Monkees.
"You're lying!" Davy shouted at him, "Why should we believe you?"
"It doesn't matter if you believe me or not." Dr. Mendoza said with a shrug, "We've wasted enough time as it is; science must be served!"
He and Nadia walked over to Peter, with Nadia still holding the gun.
"I think I'll start with you." The doctor said, "How would you like to live a long time, perhaps forever?"
"Forever?" Peter repeated, "That's a long time."
"Oh it is." Dr. Mendoza replied, "You'll age, but age slowly."
"You mean like a...like..." Peter gulped.
"Yes, that's right, boy." Dr. Mendoza said, coming closer to Peter.
Suddenly, Davy had his hands free and he reached out and grabbed at Nadia's gun. The two struggled for a moment, then Dr. Mendoza leaped forward, grabbed Davy's chin and slammed his head hard against the wooden board. Davy's head slumped onto his chest.
"You meanie!" Peter cried.
"Curse you, Red Baron!" Micky shouted.
"Enough of this!" The evil doctor shouted, "We will start with this one instead!"
The doctor and Nadia then released Davy and carried him away to another room.
--------
Davy woke up to a sharp pain in his right hand. He looked at his hand and saw what looked like a bite mark on his palm. Hearing a growl, Davy looked up to see a large wolf only inches away from his face. Davy screamed and jumped away, only to hit his back against the bars of a cage. He scrambled around trying to find the door, but couldn't find one.
"Oh you're finally awake. Meet another one of my experiments." The doctor said from the other side of the bars. Nadia was standing behind him.
"Keep that thing away from me!" Davy shouted.
"Not only did I work on my monster, I was also experimenting with genetics with this creature." Dr. Mendoza said, ignoring Davy's distress. "This may look like an ordinary wolf, but he has been bred to be stronger, faster and more powerful than ordinary wolves."
"Lovely. What does this have to do with me?" Davy asked dryly.
"While working for the third Reich, I was in charge of trying to find a better use for those deemed inferior." Dr. Mendoza said.
"Inferior?" Davy asked, his head spinning.
"Yes, inferior. Those not of the master race."
"There isn't such a thing as a master race!" Davy retorted.
The evil doctor laughed as if Davy had said something funny.
"Oh you naïve little boy." He said, "You will never understand, as you are not part of that race. However, you will still help me advance science."
"What are you going to do?" Davy asked, a sick feeling coming over him.
"I've already done it. I want to see if this wolf's attributes can work on a human." Dr. Mendoza replied.
Davy looked down at his injured hand once again as the truth dawned on him.
"That thing...bit me?" Davy whispered.
"Oh yes, and while we wait to see what happens next, I'll work on your friends!" Dr. Mendoza replied, lowering down the divider bars between Davy and the wolf.
Davy leaped up and threw himself at the evil doctor, but the cage bars stopped him.
"You wretch! Leave them alone!" He screamed.
"Ah, it's beginning to work! You're getting stronger already!" Dr. Mendoza said, then turned and walked out of the room.
Davy shook the bars of his cage, then looked at his injured hand. A slight fuzz of dark fur was beginning to grow on the back of that hand and his nails looked longer than before.
"No, this can't be happening." Davy breathed. He looked over at the wolf, who just silently stared back at him, almost looking sorry for Davy's predicament.
Davy put his hands over his face and began to cry.
----------
The evil Doctor and his daughter came back into the laboratory and once again approached Peter.
"You evil man." Peter sobbed, "What did you do to Davy?"
"If my experiment works, he'll be a much stronger and swifter man." Dr. Mendoza replied, "But I have something else in mind for you." He stepped closer to Peter, and it looked to Peter like the doctor's eye teeth were growing longer!
"Please don't hurt me." Peter begged.
"Don't worry, this won't hurt...much." Dr. Mendoza replied, his eyes growing red. He then lunged forward and bit Peter on the neck.
