Later that day, Peter and Astrid went to the beach.
"I just love this!! The water is so blue!" Astrid exclaimed.
"Can you go for a swim? The water, I mean, it won't hurt will it?" Peter asked.
"Oh. You're thinking that because I am a machine, I'll rust or short-circuit?" she asked coolly.
"Well, yeah. The thought did cross my mind," Peter admitted.
"Peter Tork! What do have to do to put your mind at ease? I am far more advanced than a machine. You do not have to treat me as if I would break!" Astrid said as she stood with her arms folded across her chest pouting.
"I--I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," Peter quickly said as he too stood.
"Good. At least you remember I am capable of feelings," Astrid retorted.
"I'm sorry. OK?" Peter offered very concerned.
"Apology accepted. Now about that swim: I'll race you!!" Astrid called as she quickly ran to the water and dived in.
Peter stood stunned. What just happened? Would she really short-circuit?
"Come on! I believe the saying is 'The water's fine.'" Astrid shouted to Peter as she splashed about in the warm, blue surf. "Gee, Peter. Can't you take a joke?"
"Astrid, you are one remarkable girl," Peter said as he joined her in the water.
Astrid smiled. He actually called her a "girl." This was a great compliment and she began to feel as f she actually belonged in this time with these most incredible band mates. She belonged not as an android, but as a friend.
Thus, the two spent an enjoyable time on the beach where they engaged in an absorbing conversation about peace and the environment in the future.
