Chapter 1

“Breakfast!” Peter brightly called.

“’Ow can he be so cheerful in the morning?” Davy sleepily thought as he began to get out of bed. As usual, Micky was the first down, followed by Mike and finally Davy.

They all sat at the table. Mike picked up the paper, as usual, and then he reached for his coffee. Micky and Davy reached for their juice and Peter set the food on the table. One would think it was another typical day at the Pad, but that was far from being true.

Each Monkee we so absorbed with their morning that they didn’t notice the bright, greenish glow that began to flicker by Micky’s time machine. The glow grew so that the form of a person appeared and stepped out of the light.

“Good morning Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and David Jones.”

“Good morn----“ they all started but stopped and looked in the direction of the voice.

There she stood. She was dressed in black except for the white ruffles on her sleeves and collar. She had bright blue eyes and sandy blonde hair. She was dressed as if she were a maid, except that she was very young. She stood perfectly still as the boys stared at her.

The guys jumped from the table and ran behind Mike. Who is this girl and why was she standing in their kitchen?

“You are surprised. I did not mean to frighten you. It‘s just that it was so hard tracking you down. Don’t you remember why I am here?" She asked.

Nervously, they all shook their heads. Mike was the first to speak.

“It’s not so much as the why...how did you get here?”

“Through the time portal,” She simply answered.

“Time? Time portal?” Micky asked.

“Yes. Don’t you remember, Micky Dolenz? It was you who entered the contest.”

“Wha’ is she talking about?” Davy asked Micky.

“I—I don’t know!” Micky stammered.

“Then let me remind you. Micky Dolenz, you found a time portal with your experiments. You and your friends were transported to my time, the year 2066. You, Micky Dolenz, entered a contest. The prize was me. I am an android companion, but I am only here for six months. Because you are in a different time, I cannot stay. I hope I brought the right clothes for this era. I have to fit in you know. Now do you remember, Micky Dolenz?" she asked.

"Micky! Ya had to go an’ enter a contest!” Mike sighed. Micky just shrugged and smiled weakly.

“Well, what exactly do you do?” Davy asked.

“David Jones, my name is Astrid and I am a companion. In my time we are not considered robots. That is your primitive term. We are more human-like. I am capable of all human emotions. I am here for six months to help you.” she said.

“Help us do what?” Peter asked.

“Whatever you need help with." Astrid answered.

“OK. How about for starters. You move this couch. I’m thinking it would look better by the window,” Micky said mischievously.

“That couch?” Astrid asked as she started walking toward it.

“Micky, be serious. She can’t---” Mike could not finish his sentence. Astrid held the couch high in the air with one hand. The guys retreated further into the kitchen.

“Where exactly by the window did you need it, Micky Dolenz?” Astrid asked calmly. “You can put it down right there.” Micky weakly answered.
