"Where are we going to have the concert?" Davy asked.
"Right in the amusement park," Mike answered.
"How much will the tickets be?" asked Peter.
"Three dollars each," Mike replied.
"How will people know about the concert?" said Micky, looking up from his drums.
"We'll make some fliers and hand 'em out," Mike explained.
"This is so exciting!" Micky exclaimed, "I hope a lot of people come!"
"Maybe your girlfriend will be there, Mick," Davy said.
"What girlfriend?" Micky asked with a confused look.
"Little Judy." Davy replied, trying not to laugh.
"That does it!" Micky said, pulling off one of his slippers and throwing it at his band mate. Davy ducked just in time, and the slipper hit Mike right in his left knee.
Mike glanced up at the embarrassed drummer, and, wordlessly, threw a pillow right at him.
"That'll teach you not to throw shoes anymore." Mike stated.
"Yes, Mike." Micky said quietly, picking the pillow up off the floor.
Mike went back to thinking about the concert, when suddenly something hit him right in the face. He looked up to see a laughing Micky.
"You think that's funny, huh?" Mike said, retrieving the pillow. "Well, two can play at that game!"
Not much work was done that night, seeing as there were more important things to do - such as have a pillow fight.
After a week of planing, the Monkees were ready for the concert. Sue and Elizabeth Martin were also ready, and had been helping the Monkees set up.
"Today's the big day!" Elizabeth said excitedly.
"I know!" Micky replied cheerfully. "Boy, I hope a lot of people come!"
"I hope I don't get the hiccups." Peter said, sounding worried.
"Don't worry, Pete, everything's gonna be fine." Mike said calmly.
"Hey, here comes a car now!" Davy said.
The group of six all turned around to see a white Station Wagon pull into the parking lot. A man got out first, then his wife.
"That car looks familiar," Micky said.
The man opened the back door, and two young children jumped out. The children were none other then Judy and Matthew.
"Micky!" Judy exclaimed as soon as she saw the curly haired drummer.
"Hi, Judy!" Micky replied cheerfully. "Did you come to see the show?"
"Oh, yes!" The girl answered. "And I brought my family, too!"
"Well, I'm glad!" Micky said as he got down to Judy's level.
"Here comes another car!" Elizabeth said happily.
"And another!" Peter pointed out.
"This is going to be a good day." Sue whispered to Mike. "Thank you so-"
"No problem." Mike interrupted.
In less then an hour, the parking lot was filled with cars. People both young and old had come to see The Monkees perform. Sue and Elizabeth were both somewhat nervous, but Mike reassured them everything would go well. And go well it did. The Monkees took stage and began their first song, which was none other then "I'm A Believer". It was followed by "Last Train to Clarksville", "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You", Mike's song "Papa Gene's Blues" as well as many others. People clapped and cheered for more.
The whole concert lasted about two hours, with people still talking about it as they left. Then came time to count the money they had made. The total amount was $517 - a little left over for the Monkees themselves.
"Mike, I don't know how we can ever thank you boys enough." Sue said.
"You've saved the amusement park!" Elizabeth cried.
"Glad we could help." Davy said.
"Yes, very glad." Said Peter, smiling.
"Thank you, boys." Sue said again as she hugged Mike. Each Monkee received a hug from the grateful sisters.
Mike took a step back and stared into the distance, thinking about the merry go-round. How that next time he and his band mates came to the park, it would probably be fixed - fixed for all the little children to ride once again. And that one thought was worth it all.
