"Here you go, buddy," Mike said as he got Matthew out of the car, "What would you like to ride now?"
"The train!" Matthew replied.
"The train?" Mike questioned, "But we just got off the train."
"Hey, I know," Micky started, "Let's go on the merry go-round!"
"Yeah, that's always fun!" Peter added.
"We can't," Judy informed.
"Why not?" Davy asked.
"Because it's broken," Judy answered.
"Broken?" Peter said sadly.
"Yes," Judy continued, "It's been broken for a while. No one can ride it anymore."
"Gee, that's a shame," Micky said with a sigh.
"Well, maybe there's something else we can do," Mike suggested, "Any ideas, kids?"
"The train!" Matthew said excitedly.
"How about the petting zoo?" asked Davy.
"Petting zoos are nice," Peter added, "Let's go there."
Everyone agreed that the petting zoo would be enjoyable, and as they would soon find out, it was.
"Easy there, cowboy," Mike said, as he held on to Matthew.
"Giddy up!" The boy said.
"He sure likes the pony ride," Peter commented.
"Maybe he'll be a jockey one day," Davy said smiling.
"Look at the baby bunny, Micky," Judy pointed out, all the time still holding the drummer's hand.
"They're cute," Micky replied, "Maybe some day you'll have one of your own!"
"Oh goody!" The girl cried, as she squeezed Micky's hand a little tighter.
"We have a cat, now," Judy explained, "Do you know what his name is?"
"Um...no," Micky said, "What is his name?"
"Guess!" Judy said giggling.
While Micky tried to guess the cat's name, Peter and Davy talked about the merry go-round.
"I wish there was something we could do to help Sue and Elizabeth," Davy said.
"Yeah, me too," said Peter, "They're so nice, and this is such a nice place for kids to play."
"And I don't think the merry go-round is the only thing that needs repairs," The Englishman stated.
"Yeah, the train looked like it could use some work, too." Peter nodded.
"I just wish I knew of some way to-" Davy began. He was cut short when Matthew came running right at him. Davy picked the little boy up.
"Let's go on the slide!" He said.
"The slide?" Davy asked.
"There's a big slide!" Matthew explained.
Just then, Mike came running up.
"That boy's fast," The Texan said, "He beat me here!"
Matthew tugged at Davy's shirt sleeve, asking; "Can we go on the slide?"
"You take him, Davy," said Mike.
"Alright, then," Davy answered, "Come on, Matt! Let's go find that slide!"
It was easy to find, the slide was about ten feet high, and it was recommended that young children like Matthew have an adult go with them.
While Davy and Matt, as they called him, went on the slide, the three other Monkees began talking about the park.
"Mike, Micky," Peter started.
"Micky," came another voice, that of little Judy, tugging at Micky's hand.
"What is it?" Micky asked, getting down to her level.
"Would you like to see the rest of the park?"
Micky looked up at his friends, who gave him a slight smile. Returning the smile, Micky let Judy take him on the tour.
"As you were sayin', Pete?" Mike asked.
"Oh," Peter continued, "Well, Davy and I were just talking about the park, and that it would be nice if we could do something to fix some of the rides."
"Yeah, that would be nice," Mike said, "But I reckon it'd be mighty expensive to fix these rides."
"The merry go-round needs the most work," Peter said, "And the train needs a little work, too."
"Peter, I wish we could help, too, but it'd cost at least five-hundred dollars to get a new motor for the merry go-round." Mike stated. "You know we don't have that type of money."
Peter looked down sadly and said; "Maybe next time we play a gig, we can give the money to Sue and Elizabeth, so they can pay for repairs."
"We haven't had a gig to play for a while," Mike pointed out, "Besides, we don't get paid that much. Why, we'd need to do a huge concert to-"
Mike and Peter looked at each other, Mike had that look - the kind of look where you knew he was thinking about something. Something important.
