Chapter 1

"What a beautiful day," Peter said as he stared out the window, "Perfect day to get out and do something."

"Like what?" asked Micky, who sat slumped on the sofa. "We've done everything already."

"Stop your yappin'," Mike said firmly.

"Lets just take a walk," Peter replied, "A nice long walk."

"Sounds fine to me," Davy said, "How about you two?"

"Ok, cool," Micky answered, "Let me get my shoes on first."

"Yeah, that would help," Mike said as he rose from his chair.

With that, the four Monkees headed out on their walk.

"I just don't know what to do!" cried the middle-aged woman, "I'd hate to close this place down. The kids love it here!"

"But we don't have the money to fix the merry go-round," another woman, a few years younger, replied.

"Well there must be some way to get the money!" the first woman said.

"How? This is a no charge amusement park!" the younger woman said back.

"Maybe we can do something to raise the money," the older woman said.

The two women, Sue and Elizabeth Martin, were sisters who ran a small amusement park for young children. There were a few simple rides for the children, the most popular ride being the merry go-round. There was also a petting zoo which included goats, rabbits and ponies for the kids to ride. But the merry go-round needed repairs. And the sisters didn't have the money to pay for it.

The four Monkees had been walking for some time now, when Peter spotted something.

"Look guys! Look!" He shouted, "An amusement park!"

Before the others could say anything, Peter had taken off, with Micky right behind him.

"I just love an amusement park!" Micky said happily.

"Me too!" Peter said, smiling.

"Hey wait for us!" Davy called out.

"Hold on, shotgun!" Mike said.

The four of them looked around, noticing everything looked a little small.

Just then, Sue and Elizabeth came out.

"Hello," Sue called.

"Hey," Micky replied.

The two sisters walked over to the Monkees and introduced themselves.

"I'm Sue Martin," said the short haired woman, who also wore glasses.

"And I'm Elizabeth Martin," the second woman, with longer brown hair kept up in a bun, said in a friendly tone.

The six of them shook hands and gave their names, and the Monkees asked about the park.

"Kinda small," Micky said.

"Well, it's a park for kids," Elizabeth explained.

"Or Davy," Micky laughed.

"Very funny, Mick," Davy said, giving the drummer a shove.

"Yes, parents bring their kids here for the day, and we watch after them," Elizabeth continued, "There are rides, and a petting zoo. They love it here."

"Sounds really nice," Peter told the sisters, "Are there any kids coming today?"

"Probably," Sue replied.

"Maybe we can help you watch them!" Micky said.

"Yeah, he's good with kids." Davy said.

"Can we stay, Mike? Please?" Peter begged.

"Well, if it's alright with Sue and Elizabeth," Mike began.

"We'd love to have you stay," Elizabeth said, "That would be a great help for us."

"It really would," the older sister said, "We really appreciate it."

"Then it's a deal," Mike said, "C'mon guys, lets get to work."

A few minutes later a car came by. It was a family with their two kids, a girl and a boy. The parents chatted with Sue and Elizabeth for a little bit, and then went on their way.

"Looks like we've got some costumers!" Micky said, nodding toward the young brother and sister.

"Boys," Sue began, as she walked with the children, "Say 'hello' to our guests."

She introduced the children as Judy, age seven, and her brother, Matthew, five. Both children had reddish brown hair and a few freckles. Judy had her hair done in pigtails.

"Oh, goodness!" Sue cried.

"What is it?" Mike asked.

"Well," she continued, "You see, our mother has a cold, and she asked us to pick up a few items at the store for her."

"Then you two run along. We'll be fine with the kids." Mike answered.

"Thank you so much, boys. We won't be long."

"We should be back in less then an hour," Elizabeth added.

"Take your time," Davy told them.

The Monkees watched the two sisters drive off, and then turned to Judy and Matthew.

"Well, what you like to do first, Matt?" Mike asked the little boy.

"Go on the train!" He replied.

"OK, then. The train it is!" The Texan said back.

Meanwhile, Judy decided that she wanted a boyfriend, and Micky was the one.

"Would you like to go on the train, too?" She asked him.

"Uh...sure," Micky said, sounding a little uneasy.

Davy and Peter tried not to laugh.

"Ok, good!" Judy said, as she took Micky's hand and led him to the train ride.

The train ride went all the way around the park, and it even went through a little tunnel. Once there, Mike helped Matthew in one of the cars.

"There you go, buddy!" Mike said.

"Aren't you comin' with me?" The boy asked.

"Well, no...you see, this ride is for kids, and as you can see, I'm not a kid!" Mike tried to explain.

"Please?" Matthew begged.

"Looks like you're stuck," Peter said.

"I guess so, good buddy."

With that, Mike squeezed into the seat next to Matthew.

"I'm glad you're coming, Mike!" The boy said happily.

"Me too," Mike told his young friend.

"Come on, Micky," Judy said, "You can ride with me!"

"Here you go," Micky began as he climbed into the car, "You can sit on my lap."

"You two comin'?" Mike asked Davy and Peter.

"No, we'll just wait," Peter told him.

"Have fun!" Davy said.

When the train was out of earshot, Davy let out a laugh. Peter laughed, too. It was so funny seeing Mike on that tiny train. And Micky with the young girl staring at him, a dreamy look in her eyes.

They would have really laughed when the train came to the tunnel. Being a lot taller then the kids, Mike and Micky had to duck down low to avoid hitting their heads.
