Chapter 14

After Peter had talked with Jody he started to run back to the castle, they were to meet and talk about when they were to be knighted. As he rushed to make it in time he saw Michael, also trying to get to the castle.

"We're late." Peter said, as they both ran inside.

"Kinda hard to make it in time when I live in the third part of the Kingdom."

They stopped to catch their breath and saw that David was already there. They ran over to him.

"Where's George?" Peter asked him.

"I don't know. He was here but he said he had to do something."

"Hi guys."

They turned and saw George standing there.

"Now that we're all here, what happens next?" Asked David.

"I've seen it a bunch of times," Said George. "You walk over to the King, tell him why you want to be a Knight, he taps you with his sword, just boring stuff."

"Not so fast George." Peter said. "On the night before the ceremony we have to take a cleansing bath, fast, and make confession. We have to spend the whole night in the chapel praying to God for guidance in our journey as a knight."

"You guys can do all that, I'm not!"

Everybody was surprised that George's attitude had changed from his always happy mood to mad and upset.

"What's your problem?" Asked Michael.

"I'm not doing any praying, you guys spend your time praying if you want but I'm not!"

George stormed off.

"What's with him all of a sudden?" David asked.

"I don't know." Said Peter. "But I think we'd better find out."

"How?"

"You."

"Me?!" David exclaimed.

"You can tell him that you need to spend the night at his place again and you can ask him. You two seem like really good friends."

"We do?"

"I think he really trusts you."

It was true; David and George had become close friends.

"Alright, I'll try." David said.

----

That night David went to George's home and knocked on the door.

"I'll get it!" Said Debbie.

She answered the door.

"Guys, David is back!"

The three young girls pulled David into the house. David saw George, he wasn't as upset as before but you could tell he was still thinking about earlier.

"Are you staying for a while?" Asked Gina.

"If you guys have room."

"Who's this?" George asked.

David saw a Priest come into the room. When George saw him he went to his room.

"George Michael Dolenz!" His Mother called out but he didn't listen and slammed the door.

David couldn't understand it; the last time he was here it seemed like a perfect family. And why was George mad about this Priest?

"Why do you think he acts like that Dad?" Debbie asked the Priest.

Dad? This Priest is George's Father? Then he remembered what they had said the first time he was here. "Is Step-Dad here yet?" Asked George. "George, why do you call him Step-Dad?" Asked his Mother. "'Cause he is."

David walked into George's room to see him looking at a goblet.

"Can I come in?" Asked David.

"You're already in."

George put down the goblet and put on a smile.

"Sorry for acting like that, Mom says I have a nasty temper."

"Why do you not like your Step-Father?"

George sighed, and then sat down.

"It's not that I don't like him. He's a really nice guy but, He'll never replace my first Dad."

David wanted to ask him why he was so mad about going to church. Was this a good time to ask?

"Why don't you want to go to church?"

George closed his eyes, trying to fight bad memories.

"My Dad died in the church." George told him.

David could tell that there was so much George wanted to let out, so many memories that he had been keeping inside for so long.

"You can tell me."

"My Dad started to go to church and they had this ceremony how they had to drink some wine and, after drinking it he fell over and died. After that I was quite a trouble maker because I was so mad."

"That's no reason to hate the church."

"Well, I do. Besides, I don't think He'd forgive me after what I've done and what I've thought of Him."

"He always forgives us, all you have to do is ask."

"I think I need to be alone."

Had he pushed him too much? Was he mad at him? David left George's room.

"Are you still staying?" Gina asked him.

"I don't think so."

Gina looked disappointed.

"I'll come back tomorrow."

Gina smiled then David left the Dolenz house.

----

The next night Michael, Peter and David met at the church.

"Did you talk to George?" Peter asked David.

"Yeah, but I'm not sure if he'll come or not."

They waited for a couple of minutes but he didn't show up.

"Should we just start without him?" Michael asked.

"Looks that way." Said Peter.

They all lowered their heads and started to pray, and then they heard the church doors open. Was it George? David raised his head to look. No, it was a young girl with long brown hair. They heard the church doors open again. This time David didn't raise his head. George had his chance, he probably wasn't coming. Then the second person who came in sat next to David.

"Thanks David."

David looked and saw that it was George.

"The only thing is I don't know how to pray."

Peter, Michael and David helped George pray.
