Chapter 13

Jody Rabb sat in her favorite tree and looked at the sun set. She always did this when she was thoughtful or felt like drawing pictures. She thought about her name, Rabb. Both her parents were killed by a Dragon and she now lived with her Uncle Joshua Babbit. That's why she called herself Jody Babb, because Rabb made her think of her parents and she would feel sad. She looked and saw her baby Unicorn eating grass. Like her, Hillie didn't have any parents. She silently thanked God for the beautiful sun sets; they always made her feel better.

"What are you doing up there?"

She looked down and saw Peter, wearing armor.

"Here's a better question, what are you wearing?"

"I have to wear this because I'm a knight now."

Jody rolled her eyes. She didn't want Peter to be a knight, one of the reasons she loved him so much was because he was so sweet, peaceful and caring.

"Now you need to answer my question, what are you doing up there?"

"I'm just looking at the sun set. Could you help me down?"

She jumped from the tree and Peter caught her then placed her on the ground. Hillie saw this and ran toward Peter and poked his leg with her horn.

"Ow!"

"Hillie! He was just helping me."

Hillie lowered her head. Judy smiled and petted her.

"Are you okay Peter?"

"If I can't defend myself from a baby Unicorn then just think of what will happen when I have to defend myself from a Dragon."

"Then don't be a knight."

Peter smiled at her. She cared about him so much.

"I have to, I already agreed."

Judy made a face and started to storm off.

"Don't blame me if you get killed!"

----

Roxanne walked around the castle. It had been so long since she had walked here. She thought about her life here, good and bad. Sometimes she felt like she could stay here forever, and other times she felt like leaving as soon as possible. She heard footsteps and turned to see George running toward her.

"I have a meeting with somebody in that room; please make sure that nobody disturbs us."

"Alright."

He went into the room and closed the door behind him. Even though they had decided to just be friends she still loved him. She hadn't gone out with anybody since she and George broke up. She knew that he loved Samantha, but she also knew that she'd always have feelings for him.

----

Samantha sat at her window and looked at the sunset coming over the hill. Her Siamese cat rubbed agenst her leg to get her attention. She wanted to leave this Kingdom and live somewhere far away, away from all the rules that tried to take away her fun. Life was so dull and boring here, it was until she met George. She thought about how they first met.

She had decided to run away from the castle for a little while and found the pond where the fire flies blinked in the night sky. She sat near the pond and relaxed, finally free from rules. That's when she saw him, walking toward the pond, then their eyes met. George stared at her for a few seconds then hid behind the willow tree. Samantha laughed.

"I won't hurt you."

George poked his head out.

"But you're too beautiful to look upon...and...I'm shy."

He hid behind the willow tree again then sat down. 'I'm such an idiot!' He thought to himself. 'Now she'll never want to talk to me!' He closed his eyes, thinking of what he could've said. When he opened his eyes she was right in front of him, tears in her eyes.

"That is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me."

"It was?"

She nodded.

"Wanna go out with me?" He quickly covered his mouth then she started to laugh.

"Of course I will."

George was so happy. They walked around the pond and talked all night long. Well, George did most of the talking. Samantha didn't tell him much because there wasn't much to tell and she didn't want him to know she was a Princess. He didn't mind, he had plenty to tell her. She wondered where he got all his energy. He talked about himself, his family; he joked and talked about how he wanted to leave this Kingdom and travel.

Too soon the sun started to rise and Samantha started to leave when George grabbed her hand, knelt down onto one knee, took off his hat and looked into her eyes.

"Will you accompany me tomorrow night?"

"I will try."

She didn't want to promise anything. She would never want to break a promise to the very first person who treated her as a person and not royalty. He kissed her hand then they said their goodbyes. They met each other at the pond the next night, and the next, and the next.

Unfortunately one of the knights saw the Princess running toward the pond and followed her. He saw them talk to each other, he saw them hold hands and he saw them kiss. He ran to them and slashed at George's leg with his sword.

"George!" She cried out.

George tried to stop the bleeding, then he saw the knight grab Samantha. He tried to get up but he couldn't, his leg hurt too much.

"That's what you get for kissing the Princess!"

The look on George's face would always remain in her memory. He looked so confused and hurt, and deceived.

They were taken to the castle and after a very short trial they said he was to stay in the dungeons until his execution. She had cried every night, and she still cried when she thought of how close he had come to being executed.

"What are you thinking about my little beauty?"

She turned and George stood there, looking at her and smiling his sweet smile. She wanted to run to him and hug him but someone might be watching.

"Don't worry." George told her. "Nobody is here, I made sure of that."

She ran to him and hugged him and cried.

"You know that I hate it when you cry."

"I can't help it stupid!" She told him, chuckling.

----

Phyllis sat at home, thinking about how her husband was now a knight. She didn't mind, her brother was also a knight. She thought about how she wished she could be a knight herself. It was too late now, when the baby comes she'll have to stay and watch him. Maybe when the baby grows old enough to take care of himself, maybe she can be a knight then.

She picked up one of her arrows. Her family has always been knights, her brother, her father, her grandfather, all of them have and she was planning on being the very first girl knight. She could shoot better than anyone she knew; she would be a knight, someday.

"I'll see you later April." Michael said as he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Try to not get into any trouble while I'm gone."

"I'll try." She told him, and then he left.

"I will be a knight." She told herself. "Someday, someday."
