Chapter 20

Two Months Later....

Micky, Peter, and Davy anxiously waited at the airport. Within an hour, they would be four once again. They could hardly believe that two years of endless heartache would soon be over. Mike was alive! Davy nervously paced the pavement, Micky bit his nails, and Peter kept jumping up to peer over the heads of the massive sea of reports that had turned up. Each Monkee kept their eyes glued to the clock in the airport tower. Each minute seemed to drag out into eternity.

Mike looked out the window of the plane. "We shouldn't be far now," he thought. He smiled as he envisioned the guys in his mind. He really did miss them, yet part of him really missed Shatzu and Reverend Mitchell too. He thought about his good bye to his native friends. They really had been a blessing to him, Lily, and little Mike. Mike looked over at his sleeping son and his heart began to swell with love and pride. He truly was a miracle. In all his life he would never forget Miha bringing the child out to him and saying, "Is boy". From the moment Mike held the little bundle, he had fallen in love with him. Now his friends from home would finally get to share in his joy.

Lily held her husband's hand and looked at him lovingly. Though she was glad to be going back to the states, part of her was so sad because she and Kiki had become like sisters. She loved the girl dearly because she had been so kind to her during her pregnancy. Miha was like another mother to Lily, except she didn't have the pretentious expectations on her that her birth mother had. Then there was Kashi. Kiki's baby girl was almost like an adopted daughter to Lily. In fact, she had already planned to send her tons of Christmas gifts every year for the rest of her life. Lily couldn't believe that she had changed so much in such a short amount of time. Part of it was due to the circumstances that her and Mike endured. However, she knew most of her change of heart was due to the transformation that took place in her soul the day she decided to follow Jesus. She wondered what her parents would think, and if they could accept her new attitude towards humbleness.

The plane slowly started to descend, as people came into Mike's view. This was it. They were finally home. Mike suddenly became a little bit nervous, though he didn't know why. He was coming home to friends.

As the plane landed, Micky, Peter, and Davy began to cheer. They began to push their way to the front of the crowd, wanting to be the first ones to welcome Mike home. The door of the plane soon opened and everyone cheered as two people came into sight.

Mike squeezed his wife's hand as they slowly made their way down the ramp. He immediately spotted Davy, Micky, and Peter and waved to them. Mike looked good, the other guys thought. He was clean shaven, with hair cut short, and he looked like he was in great physical condition, despite the fact that he was terribly skinny. It was one of the few times that the guys had seen Mike in a suit. Lily also looked quite a bit different than the guys remembered her. Although she was strikingly beautiful on the S.S. Emerald, she had a simpler beauty now. Her long hair had been cut to shoulder length, due to the snarls and tangles that couldn't be brushed out of her hair. She wore a green and white polka dotted mini dress, white gloves, and white ankle boots. In her arms, she held a bundle all wrapped up in a blue blanket. As Mike and Lily came off the ramp, Mike rushed into his mother's arms and he held her sobbing form. Mrs. Nesmith held onto her son as tightly as she could, and then finally hugged her new daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Vanguard then approached their daughter and hugged her as though they hadn't seen her for a lifetime. All three parents cooed over the sleeping baby as Mike and Lily enjoyed every second of the attention their son was receiving. Suddenly, a familiar voice caused Mike's attention to turn.

"Hey Nesmith! Come here so I can hug you," the voice said. Mike turned and saw Micky, no more that twenty feet away from him. He ran straight to the guys and was greeted with three men tackling him in a hug.

"You're back! You're really back! I can't believe it!" Peter said with excitement.

"Yes, I'm back. It's so good to be home. I've miss you all so much," Mike said, almost in tears. Lily made her way to her husband's side. The guys began muttering baby talk to Mike's son the moment they saw him.

"Aw, hi dere! I'm you uncle Micky Wicky. Yes I am! Choochie coo," Micky babbled to the baby. Davy, Peter, and Mike all rolled their eyes.

"Finally, someone on Micky's level," Davy said. Mike had to stifle the laugh that he was just dying to vocalize.

"So, what's the little tyke's name?" Micky asked.

"Michael Shatzu Nesmith," Mike said proudly.

"Shatzu?!" The guys asked in disbelief.

"Yes, he was a friend of mine on the island. He taught me how to hunt, build, and make things," Mike said. Before anyone could say another word, Lily came forth and clasped Micky's hand in hers.

"I want to apologize to you three for the way I treated you on the cruise ship. It was wrong of me. I have learned that just because I had money, it made me no better than anyone else. You boys, even though you are financial poor, are much richer than someone like I used to be. You are happy and you have true friends. That means alot. I now know what true wealth is," Lily confessed.

"Aw, that was two years ago. We haven't thought no more about it," Peter said with a dimpled smile.

"Just the same, I was in the wrong. I want to make it right," Lily answered, offering a hug to Peter. As soon as Lily and Peter hugged, flashbulbs started going off everywhere. A reporter tugged at Mike's sleeve and said, "Come on you two, you can chat with your friends later. Right now, the whole world wants to know about your ordeal." Mike handed the baby to Davy, as he and Lily were shoved to a huge platform, where a press conference was about to take place.
