Chapter 15

After several minutes of thinking about what he had done, Mike made his way to Lily's hut. He gently knocked, hoping she would let him in.

"Go away!" She shouted.

"Lily please, I want to talk to you," Mike pleaded from outside her door. Seconds later, Lily opened her door to him and he went inside. Upon his entrance, Lily once again turned her back to him.

"Ok, talk," she said.

"Lily, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. It's just you're so attractive. It tends to make me a little crazy at times," Mike said as he looked toward the ground.

"Just because we live in barberic conditions doesn't mean you have the right to act like a barberian," Lily boldly said.

"The fact of the matter is, I love you very much. Don't you see that? No native woman around here makes me feel the way you make me feel," Mike said, trying to get her to turn around. Lily's heart softened to his words and she slowly turned around.

"Mike, the way you acted on the beach, it sort of took me off my guard. It made me feel like I was only good for one thing. I'm sure you didn't mean it like that," Lily said.

"No, I didn't mean it like that. I love you so much that I feel anything I do will never be enough to prove it...unless," Mike said as he pondered a thought.

"Unless what?" Lily asked.

"Marry me, Lily. Marry me and be my wife," Mike begged as he held Lily's hand.

"I can't do that. We can't get married," Lily exclaimed.

"Why not? I love you. You do love me, don't you?" Mike asked.

"Yes I love you, but if you haven't noticed we are stuck on this island! We have no church, no minister, no marriage license, no way to get a marriage license, no ring..." Lily started to list all they didn't have.

"Lily, you forgot what we do have. We have love. I know we don't have all those other things, but we may never get off this island and I want to be able to spend the rest of my life with you," Mike said as he looked in her eyes.

"You already have that, we are here together," Lily said.

"That's not what I mean. I want to be a family. We can be a family right here. I promise also that if we ever do get off this island I will give you a proper wedding," Mike said.

"I don't know," Lily said. "If this proposal is just to satisfy your libido, I swear I'll..."

"My what?" Mike asked.

"Your libido, you know. Oh nevermind," Lily said as she rolled her eyes.

"Lily, I believe the only reason we have survived this far is because we've been a team and have used all the things available to us and not complained about what we don't have. We can have a ceremony down in the village. We can say vows to each other, words that come straight from our hearts. If you don't like my idea, I'll understand. Just think about it," Mike said.

Lily pondered his words. Though she had always been taught that a wedding must be performed by a minister, that was something she couldn't have right now. Besides, it was probably some silly by-law created by the church. Not being taken to church often, she believed a lot of their rules were man made. She knew that Shatzu and Miha were married. How did they do a wedding? She figured as long as her and Mike promised to love and take care of each other and kept to it, everything would be fine. She did love Mike enough to become his spouse.

"Alright, I'll marry you," Lily said as she wrapped her arms around Mike.

"I promise I'll try to make you happy, here or anywhere," Mike said as he kissed her.
