"Good bye Mike. I love you," Lily cried as she hid her face from the sight of the knife.
"Huh?" Mike replied dumbfounded. He had forgotten all about being held at knife point. As he looked at the native, he noticed that he made no attempt to stab either one of them. He just stood there with the knife. Mike finally reached out and took the knife from the man, which made the man smile. Mike finally realized that this man was trying to give him his knife, not kill him.
"You got the knife! Kill him!" Lily ordered.
"No, don't you see? I think they're trying to be friendly," Mike said. He walked over to the man, pointed to himself and said "Mike". Mike then went over to Lily and told the native "Lily". The man smiled. He pointed to his pale visitors and repeated "Mike, Lily". Mike smiled.
"That's right," he said with a grin. The native pointed to himself and said "Shatzu". He then pointed to a woman and said "Miha". As she stood, six or seven children gathered around her, the smaller ones hiding behind her leg.
Mike then stuck out his hand and said, "Friend." Shatzu didn't know what to do, so he repeated "friend" and stuck his hand out as well. Mike took his hand and shook gently.
Shatzu led Mike and Lily to a table that was filled with all sorts of island treats. There was fish, pineapple, mangos, roasted wild boar, and other things Mike and Lily didn't even know were on the island. Shatzu and Miha sat at the table and watched Mike and Lily until Mike sunk his teeth into an unknown fruit. Shatzu and Miha smiled and ate as well.
After eating their meal, Mike and Lily walked back to their camp. Since night had fallen, Shatzu gave both of them torches. While walking hand in hand, Mike had a question he just had to ask.
"Lily, did you mean what you said back there?" Mike asked.
"What do you mean?" Lily asked, trying to avoid embarrassing herself.
"You know what I'm talking about," Mike said. Lily indeed did know what Mike was talking about.
"Well...yeah. I think so. I do like you alot though," Lily said.
"I really like you too. You're braving this situation better than I ever thought. Bet you didn't know you were so tough," Mike said.
"No, I really didn't," Lily said with a smile.
