It was a beautiful spring day as the Monkees boarded the S.S. Emerald. Micky, Mike, Davy, and Peter were excited to have this opportunity to perform in the luxorious ocean liner's lounge. From the deck, Peter looked down at all the other people boarding the ship.
"Wow! There are sure going to be alot of people on this boat!" Peter said with excitement.
"Yeah, this gig ought to be alot better than working for Captain Screw Lose," Micky said as he remembered their pirate adventure to save the Queen Anne from robbery.
"Hey Mike, you will be ok, won't you?" Davy asked concerned as he remembered his friend's tendency to sea sickness.
"Oh I'll be fine. They say in a huge ocean liner like this you don't even notice the waves," Mike said.
"I hope not," Davy said, as he looked down at the crowd. "Wow, some of these people sure are fancy. Look at how they dress."
As Mike looked, he noticed a beautiful lady with honey blonde hair that was all twisted loosely, but neatly on top of her head. She wore an elegant white evening gown, a lacy white hat, and a fur boa. She looked so danty, almost like a China doll. Mike stared until the woman and her male companion looked up at him in disgust. Mike just smiled and waved to them, even though his efforts went totally ignored.
"Zowie! I'd love to be stranded on a deserted island with that little philly," Mike said to his friends.
"Come off it Mike. She looks like a regular snob to me," Davy said.
"Well, I think he should go for it. It couldn't hurt to start up a conversation with her," Peter said.
"Aw come on guys. We have to go practice. You can daydream later Mike," Micky said as he drug his starry eyed friend to the lounge.

After practice, the four guys decided to go on deck and play a little shuffle board. They were having a great time when Mike noticed the young lady he had seen before sitting in a deck chair just several feet away from him.
"I'm gonna go talk to her. Wish me luck," Mike said as he crossed his fingers and headed in her direction.
"Good luck, Mike," Peter yelled after him.
Mike approached the woman and sat down in a deck chair beside her. She was reading a book and didn't even notice that Mike had a approached her.
"Beautiful day, isn't it miss?" Mike asked. The woman tore away from her book, slid her sunglasses down her nose and gave Mike a very grim look.
"What do you want?" She asked very snidly.
"Nothing, just making conversation," Mike said. "By the way, my name is Mike." He offered her a handshake and the woman stared at him before she went back to her book.
"Lillian Vanguard," she replied, not so much as looking at Mike.
"Well, I'll let you get back to your book," Mike said as he got up and left. Though he tried to act like Lillian's reaction didn't hurt him, the truth of the matter was it stung badly. As he came back, his friend's saw the hurt in his eyes.
"Aw man, she turned you down, didn't she? I'll show her!" Micky said as he headed in that direction. He was stopped by Mike who pulled him back.
"Naw, just let it go. It wasn't meant to be," Mike said.
"You're too good for the likes of her anyway," Davy said.
"Yeah, she doesn't know what she's missing," Peter replied.
"Thanks guys," Mike said with a slight smile. He couldn't help it. He looked over to Lillian one more time and thought, "I ain't giving up that easily."
